If you're a child who grew up in the 90s you might remember ABC's TGIF block, and in particular, the show Boy Meets World which centered around Corey Matthews and his family and friends and the highs and lows of growing up in suburbia: love, friendship, bullies, bullies who actually are really sensitive and write poetry and have a famous wrestler for a dad, etc. etc. By the end of the series, Corey had gone through college, gotten married, and moved to New York (from Philadelphia).

Now, fast forward 12 years after the series ended, there have been rumors of a sequel/spin-off series in the works. Those rumors have started to form into deals being signed: Ben Savage (Cory) and Danielle Fishel (Topanga) have signed on to reprise the roles of Corey and Topanga Matthews[/url] in Disney Channel's Girl Meets World, which will follow the point of view of their 13 year-old daughter Riley. The pilot is in the early stages with creator and executive producer of Boy Meets World Michael Jacobs (also known for My Two Dads and Charles in Charge) and they're currently on a "nationwide casting search" for the role of Riley.

Presumably other members of the original Boy Meets World cast will have cameos on the new show. I'm intrigued at the idea of catching up with these characters.

William Daniels is still alive, so he could play Feeny.

But...what if they write off Feeny as dead, and have Daniels play Riley instead?

I'm sure that might be my reaction if I wasn't aware that the original show itself wasn't exactly top quality stuff. I enjoyed it anyhow.

Fuck yes, is my reaction. I love stupid, wonderful continuations of existing property, especially things I remember. I get positively turgid for finding out what happens later to characters.

The show will probably suck or at least be cheesy as hell, but the very idea of it. The idea that this will be makes me happy.

When this does happen Chris Hardwick better get another cameo as fat Peter Hardwick host of ReSingled Outer.

If they can't get Shawn to sign on they might as well not even bother.

I hope it turns out like the original and not a typical Disney show where the main character is a teeny bopper that also sings and dances.

She was never meant to be a common creature

Shawn/Rider Strong has already commented saying he's not officially involved but would be open to guest starring. According to the same article that was written about that he wroite something or gave an interview back in February saying he didn't think revisiting the character would be good for Shawn. Something about how its hard to be the dramatic storyline in a sitcom.

Just don't try to "recapture the magic"

Use the characters, use the story, don't try to cram a bunch of callbacks and references to the original show at every turn. Make it new, make it fresh, make it fun.

And then in another decade or so we can get a "sequel" to friends starring Ross' kids Ben and Emma and the Bing twins.

Seeing as the target audience of Disney Channel is likely too young to know much about the original beyond characters and such, I don't think this will be that much of an issue.

Although I am hopeful that they'll decide to make Minkus a teacher or principal at the schooll.

Speaking of bmw, I saw the Sabrina crossover episode today.

I miss crazy crossovers. Like when Urkel launched himself across the country and was in every TGIF show making his way back to chicago

sort of! Salem are a time orb and was running around in the other TGIF shows making them an old time. That dumb genie show went into the 1950's, Boy Meets World was in WWII and sabrina was in the 70's I think. Was that guardian angel show on then?

All this means is the rest of the old show will he on DVD soon.

Don't care if this is any good. Though if it keeps the tone the old series in the middle/last half of should he pretty good

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

There was also a Halloween episode where Eric (I think) started dating a girl (Candace Cameron) who turned out to be a witch and she was doing bad things.

Melissa Joan Hart made a cameo in the last scene as the next girl Eric was gonna date.
