    Looks like they already are.

I get the joke but this is rather disingenuous. As soon as you split things up by hardware generation (and thus format of cartridge) it gets less crazy.

    Not really.

What in the world, why did you make DS overlap with 3DS like that, and there are two different DS sections with weird lines that are different from the simple GBA and 3DS coverage?

"If other developers get this treatment, that store is going to look mighty bleak for a long time to come"

Paul Johnson, of UK developer Rubicon, has slammed the Windows RT marketplace after a port of his well received game Great Big War Game made just £52 from the platform in its first week on sale.

Johnson estimates the port to have cost the company somewhere in the region of £10,000.

Writing in a blog post on the developer's site, Johnson expressed extreme frustration at the lack of support he felt he received from Microsoft, making it clear that not only does he recommend other devs steer clear of RT, but that Rubicon will never be producing a game for a Microsoft platform again.

"A week after release we have made the princely sum of £52 in sales," he writes. "That's not a typo. And despite this, and the fact that GBWG is one of only several halfway decent launch titles, Microsoft have confirmed they will not give us any promotional features or help us with visibility in any way.

"If you're familiar with their new store, this means our app is forever consigned to the garbage bin, presumably earning us less than £52 a week in future. Even if that rate is sustained, it will take just under two years before we recoup the salary paid to the guy who did the port."

Microsoft, feels Johnson, are putting out titles on the tablet OS to die, failing to offer any merchandising support and leaving developers feeling massively under appreciated.

"Apple regularly promote our apps," he continues. "Android regularly promote our apps. Even RIM (Blackberry) regularly promote our apps. We enjoy working with those companies and it's nice to see them acknowledge that we bring them some small amount of additional value to their setup. Firms our size need a bit of a leg up, and we go out of our way to show our gratitude to the above for helping us out in this way from time to time.

"Microsoft on the other hand clearly do not value us at all. Even whilst there's almost nothing to promote, they will not feature our title for bizarre admin reasons. And this is whilst their store is empty and they need developers like us to fill their store far more than developers like us need them to pay us £50 a week."

Microsoft does the same shit with the XBox marketplace, I don't why people are still surprised by this.

So, remember this big moment 1.5 years ago?
    levineheaderimg530pxhwmed.jpg

    Well.......
A BioShock title for Vita is something Irrational’s Ken Levine is interested in developing, but he’s told Eurogamer the decision to create the game for the handheld is up to Sony and Take-Two.

Levine said he has “cool design” ideas for BioShock Vita, but he needs the go-ahead from “the business people” before getting to work.

“Where the Vita stands right now, it’s in the hands of the business people at Take-Two and the business people at Sony working out, hey, what happens in these business people discussions? Fortunately I don’t have to take part in it any more because I sold my company a long time ago,” he said.

“It’s something I’m still very interested in. I still have a cool design for it. It’s a question of, do those guys come to find the right mix that makes everybody happy to make that happen?”

Don’t be hoping for a port of Infinite though, at least not yet, because it may be something entirely different altogether.

“I’ve never said it was Infinite,” said Levine. “It will be something. I’m always hesitant to talk too much about things we don’t have anything to show because it’s getting ahead of ourselves.

“I’m trying to be very careful.”

BioShock Infinite releases on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in March.

They haven't even started Bioshock Vita.

It makes me think that when these declarations are made, it's less that the publishers / developers are like, "Fuck yeah, we support this thing!" It's the console developers demanding they make these declarations if they want a piece of the pie. As in, Sony approached Ken and said, "Want in? Swear fealty." Same with Nintendo to EA. Meanwhile behind the scenes, the publishers and devs are free to decide if they act on it. It's just a matter of having a door open.

Got to say that the All Stars numbers a bleak. I mean I would never buy the game but I thought having some last minute talent brought in on it would help. Seth Killian is no slouch, buying access to the Shacknews media pipeline, and throwing in cross play were just not enough.

I am not fighting game guru but is it that Smash Bros is the genre? I mean it’s not like powerstone or any other series in this vain are coming to mind. Maybe the miscalculation is that there is only one game in this vain that will sell. I can't think of any corollates but there have to be types of gaming where it is just one big game and the rest is niche or insignificant.

Bioshock Infinite not delayed infinitely but delayed all the same.
Gamers will not be able to take to the skies of Columbia as early as they may have hoped. BioShock Infinite has been delayed for a second time, with Irrational Games' new action-shooter now due March 26, 2013. The game was previously planned to ship February 26.

The decision to delay BioShock Infinite again came after former Epic Games producer Rod Fergusson joined the developer in August. He suggested to staff that the game could benefit from 3-4 additional weeks of polish. In the long run, the delay would benefit the game, he said.

BioShock Infinite was announced in August 2010 with a 2012 release window attached. In March 2012, an October 16, 2012 release date for the game was chosen. However, the game would later be delayed to February 26, 2013 and was not on display at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo in June.

When BioShock Infinite does ship, it will do so with great sales expectations. One analyst has suggested the game would be a significant financial boon for publisher Take- Two, saying it could ship 4.9 million copies.

What is this...like the third delay?

Nintendo built Smash pretty much entirely on the strength of their brands, and Powerstone was an incredibly low-tier (if really good) arena fighter that only got attention due to being part of the Dreamcast's launch lineup. Sony didn't really have anything working in their favor in trying to make this happen. It doesn't help that mascot fighters are viewed in much the same way as non-Mario kart racing games, and the PS3's audience is closer to the Xbox than the Wii. I can't speak to the quality of the game at all, but Sony was trying to push a boulder up a vertical cliff face.

The actual quality of the game is pretty good from what I hear.

I think its failing falls mostly on the brands chosen and the generally lukewarm reception of the game.

Nintendo continues to do completely baffling shit when it comes to the internet.
    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-12-07-nintendo-blocking-18-rated-wii-u-eshop-content-at-certain-times
Nintendo of Europe blocks access to 18-rated content on the Wii U eShop at certain times of day, system messages suggest.

Users are unable to access trailers for 18-rated Wii U games or buy 18-related content.

The issue first came to light after a NeoGAF user experienced the issue and contacted Nintendo of Italy's customer support.

"Dear customer," a Nintendo representative replied, "we would like to let you know that Nintendo has always aimed to offer gameplay experiences suited to all age groups, observing carefully all the relevant regulations regarding content access that are present in the various European countries.

"We have thus decided to restrict the access to content which is unsuitable to minors (PEGI) to the 11pm - 3am time window."

Eurogamer has just tested this and it appears to be true. We were unable to access Assassin's Creed 3 information or buy ZombiU digitally.

"You cannot view this content," a message reads. "The times during which this content can be viewed have been restricted."

There messages appear for user accounts on which no parental controls have been set.

Eurogamer has contacted Nintendo for more information and will update when we hear back.

Windows 8 made a stupid mistake like this, not allowing 18+ games at all, not realizing that EU 18+ is a lot like NA 16+, and thus games like CoD or Assassins Creed would be inelligible for sale in the EU. They realized their mistake after being called on it though.

That line of thought is a lot sillier for Nintendo though, who not only saw MS take similar steps and get burned for it, but also have a greater degree of control over what appears in the first place.

The fact that their best 3rd party exclusive title is unavailable for 20 hours/day is just laughable.

Speaking of the Windows RT game that made like 80 bucks:
NPD research published some horrible news for Microsoft (MSFT) this week:

Despite releasing an entirely new operating system on October 22 of this year, WindowsPC sales shrank 21 percent between 10/21 and 11/17 versus the same period last year.
Windows 8 tablet sales during that period were "almost nonexistent" — just 1 percent of all Windows 8 sales.

    http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-ticker/microsoft-t-catch-break-tablet-sales-almost-nonexistent-183945848.html

Yikes. Oh, and remember the version of Surface that will actually run Windows 8 and 7 stuff? It starts at $899. Meanwhile you can get an iPad mini for $329.

Something's gone horribly wrong at Microsoft.

I wasn't expecting Playstation Random Words No Really We're Not Smash Bros. to do well, but less than 80K? Jesus.

Then again it got a Metacritic score of 76, which in the era of game inflation is fairly meh, plus it was released on a console largely clustered around the hardcore, who as a group don't go for crazy cartoony stuff.

And adding insult to injury a minor patch designed to nerf one of the characters managed to break the game.

The Suface Pro wasn't ever designed to compete with tablets, and especially not with the Ipad Mini, so using that as an example doesn't work.

It's meant to compete against other ultrabooks, so if you want an apple product to compare it to, it would be the Macbook Air. and on that front it's pricing and specs are very competitive.

But the surface itself probably won't sell real well, at least not this generation. But expect to see most laptops in a year or two to be touch enabled, and a large number to be "convertible" like the Lenovo Yoga

So you have to verify that you're an adult? Where does that come in, the TOS?

I've never set parental controls, so I'm locked out of the content for 20 hours a day?

Speaking of the Windows RT game that made like 80 bucks:
NPD research published some horrible news for Microsoft (MSFT) this week:

Despite releasing an entirely new operating system on October 22 of this year, WindowsPC sales shrank 21 percent between 10/21 and 11/17 versus the same period last year.
Windows 8 tablet sales during that period were "almost nonexistent" — just 1 percent of all Windows 8 sales.

So no Bioshock Vita? Are there any more reasonably high-profile third-party games coming to Vita?

...aside from the fact that you can buy a decent laptop that runs the full version of Windows 8 and all the legacy stuff AND has a keyboard for $500 nowadays.
