I've also been tempted to buy old consoles to play games I missed

but with companies throwing out HD re-releases out like candy I think I'll just be patient

I keep reading this thread title as "The Urge to Bury Old Crap" and I keep thinking someone's parent just died or something and they're not too torn up about it

I like the feel of the old controllers and the old graphics. Not that HD remakes aren't awesome, but I have a shit tv, and I kinda like it that way

I'd like to get an old typewriter just to put on a shelf somewhere. I like decorative stuff like that.

I dug out my dad's stereo receiver from the early 80s, and it powers the bookshelf speakers on my computer desk pretty well. I've got a road bike I need to fix up, too, but I think it's from the late 80s so that probably doesn't count.

I guess I place the "old" cutoff somewhere around 1985.

I've watched enough American Pickers to know there are a lot of old oil cans out there that are pretty nice.

In reality, I've started a small collection of antique glass bottles. I literally only have 3, but the antique store next to me always has nice ones. I might go over there soon and see if they have anything new in.

Instagram filter, but get over it.

My roommate recently put up old avon perfume bottles that are all in the shapes of animals around the house. They are pretty old.

since there is no shipping costs involved it is yours. since you are a friend and I think the key is locked inside you can have it at cost

I think so. either that or my ex lost the key. I used to be able to jimmy it open with a screwdriver but the last time I tried I was unsuccessful. it's been in storage for a couple years

The best part about old-ass travelogues is when the author puts a map of his journey in the front and you see that like, half the countries he's gone through haven't existed for a hundred years. When the map has "Sweden-Norway" and "Norway-Sweden" on it, you're in for a treat

A friend found a bunch of things in her grandfather's belongings after he died and just offered them up to any friends who wanted them. I paid her something like 8 dollars in shipping and now it's mine. I love it.

My co-worker gave me his dad's old record player along with 3 boxes of records. Mostly all from the 70's.

Roughly half the records are various Jazz artists, Miles Davis, Coltrane, Armstrong, Thelonious Monk (one of my favorites, but the record seems fucked up). The rest are the odd "world music" along with some of the requisite have to have things. (Beetles Anthologies, Chicago, a random Zappa album)

    Must. Find. More.

Annie has an old Polaroid that I'll maybe take a pic of later. I'm trying to get the energy to clean the apartment right now. It's cool but it seems hard to use well.

I bought this NES from a friend for 45 bucks with like 6 games.

Then I found jjgame dot com and bought a bunch more for cheap.

I know a guy who dumpster dived at Hewlett Packard and ended up buildinga frequency response meter that could produce graphs. He uses this for his home made amps speakers and guitars

I love old gardening books; I love old books regardless, but at a certain point you're just putting aged paper on wooden shelves and never touching them again. I want books to be used. Gardening books (also cookbooks in this degree, but I don't use cookbooks enough) usually contain a shitton of info handscribbled in margins and covers. I love that.

Old crap is surprisingly cheap, though some of the better crap can cost quite a bit.

The oldest thing I have is a small Trilobite. It's not collectors quality though.

No joke, I saw the picture and just assumed you collected massive buds of weed.

At some point in time, I think America will be a country wrapped up in old things.
I think tradition and old crap will be sought after and cherished, right until folks start living in 500 year old cities and all the old crap that will come to envelop life within them.

I got my new job and started buying up old NES and SNES games and hooked both systems up to my 155" projector. I'm playing Chrono Trigger now and it's so fucking awesome.

I also went out and bought a blown out old Super Mario Bros. arcade machine (no game board, no monitor) that I'm working on... that might end up being a thread unto itself.

I bought an old RCA 16mm projector while working at a comicon. Also got myself some old Daffy Duck and Popeye cartoons. The guy I bought all of these from showed me how to load the film into the projector and play it/rewind it.

There's something about the sound of film going through the projector. I've never got to hear it before this!

Oh I forgot, there is one thing I like to collect, and they're getting increasingly easier and cheaper to find:

    Fruit crate labels
    92FRUIT-CRATE.jpg

It's not uncommon for someone to go through an old warehouse and find file cabinets full of them, and they're appropriately priced by condition and quantity available. I especially like the ones who's art depicts something related to the fruit (as opposed to some random image of, I don't know, a moose holding a candlestick offering Fresh Dates!), or something from the area they're procured (when that area is the West Coast). My favorite is a Sunkist Lemon one from Filmore, the town next to where I grew up. They also make nice framed art.

My parents have an old Airstream trailer, it looks a lot like these 24' Tradewinds, that they are NEVER allowed to see because despite a little work needed done on the roof (minor leaks), and needing a couple new appliances (water heater, fridge), I will probably never have another chance at owning one if it goes. Besides all that, I loved camping in that as a kid (no, I'm not that old, they bought it as a classic trailer). And it's just so awesome
