Rysk, I just don't like PVP that much.

And it's not like people were that on top of the idea of a dedicated Dungeon group, I ended up just taking pugs.

I still think we'd have a better go of organized shit like this if we had our own damn forum with dedicated threads for it, but, well, everyone hates that idea, so instead stuff like your post gets eaten by a pile of posts like UGH I HATE THIS GAME BECAUSE X.

Sounds like my first foray. Of course, I'd have to include the 20 minutes where I was just running around empty areas wondering where all the fighting was.

    Regarding the story quality...

I really enjoyed Nightfall's plot. It wasn't amazing, but it was pretty close to console RPG quality (as opposed to the typical MMORPG quality). Prophecies was kind of a less-polished version of that type of writing, which stands to reason since it was made, what, 4 years prior? Still good though. I don't remember thinking the plot was unusually twisty; it all seemed to progress clearly enough.

Factions, though, was basically one incredibly long, awkward cutscene. Which is entertaining in its own right. But that campaign was far more impressive for its environment and overall aesthetic than its story.

EotN was certainly the best-produced, as it ought to be, but I still prefer Nightfall's plot.

GW2's story is good (with a dash of great) right up until Claw Island.
I think my loathing of Trahearne is amplified several fold over most people's, since his useless leafy ass starts barging into the story just around the time they kill off the one character who was written so well that the deeply ingrained loathing for charr which I built up throughout GW1 was largely ameliorated after just a few missions: Tybalt.

    I know what you mean.

I was having some fun with it after I finished up with that helpless Logan fellow and moved on to better things with...
    ...the Priory.

Sieran is a pretty stereotypical "happy go lucky" character type, overly cheerful and naive about everything, always doing the opposite of what the boss wants (who then yells at her afterward), etc.

Buuuuut, then just as I start to get to like her...Claw Island, and she's gone.

I have to admit, I didn't see it coming. It's such a predictable plot point, maybe I should have. But I wasn't expecting it.

After the mission was over and I returned from the instance, I just sat there staring at the screen for about 20-30 seconds, totally deflated. I actually had to log out for the night because I didn't feel like playing anymore.

Maybe I'm a sucker for NPC's. I did the same thing with Far Cry 2, when...
...all the other mercenaries, even the "buddy" you've fought alongside (not to mention having saved each other from certain death multiple times) spring an ambush on you in order to kill you over some diamonds. I mean, I was fine with fighting off all the others, but it was a lot harder with the "companion".

Less than half of the regular players in this guild post on these forums.

Even less than that half actually log into TS, even to listen or help form up for groups. Look at people like @Tulabelle who have no mic, and still manage to be a part of our team and interact when we want to go do stuff.

Problem is, if I had put it into the MOTD and written over the TS info (which I would prefer pick up use way more than my tPvP) nobody would have read it. A second dedicated forum will not be happening with the current officer-ship. There are not enough active players to warrant that and we have a tumbler for collecting some data there.

I log on to TS and it's empty. I jump down to the one channel with people and... they aren't playing GW2. Lately if there are people on in guild and we run a dungeon we'll hop in TS.

But if I'm ever just on and hop into vent to see what's up I get, "people don't really play GW2 anymore"

So I really just think there's a disconnect between the people in-game, using vent and these forums.

EDIT: For the people on these forums who do actively play in the guild, I need to do a lot of Sorrow's Embrace runs. I did some homework and it's one of the few dungeons where you can get Knights gear with the tokens.

I've found that as well, regarding TS. I haven't been around for a week or so, but usually when I logged into TS, I'd fine the same few folks there. Maybe 1/7 of the folks actually online or some such.

I'll be honest I don't hop on it much myself anymore unless I'm grouped with guildies. When I would start it up just to hop on and hang it was always empty. Which is why I stopped.

Gear question. I know I ask a few of these. I'm just planning what I need to farm. I was thinking 3 pieces of knights, 2 beserker, and 1 soldier. For a well rounded leaning towards dmg guardian set. One that works sword crit build or hammer tanky build. Any comments?

PvP is, in theory, one of the main reasons I play MMOs. I just don't end up doing it much - I never like how the powerful builds play and usually run something suboptimal. Like my thief, who I play as basically a petless ranger (because that's what I really would like).

That's too bad. WvWvW used to be pretty fantastic at launch. Everyone was new, while there were a lot of tunnel visioning players for the most part the lack of organization made it quite fun. The current meta game is to find the biggest group of players on your team and just steam roll smaller enemies until you run into a group bigger than you, at which point they steamroll you. There are still the occasionally awesome sieges that last an hour+ which will see your side pushed back several times, but eventually maybe you'll win the war of attrition as they run out of supply and siege equipment. But it seems that lately the metagame is to try and take a tower/keep before the defenders can respond to come defend. It's part of why I don't really play anymore :(

I was under the impression that a number of servers used the commander tag to basically farm karma and events by rolling the same circle of towers and supply camps or look for the easiest targets not necessarily the most strategic.

@MagicPrime - I find that WvW can be fun, but see if you can tag along with a friend or a guildmate or two. At least you'll have a small group or something to work with to better understand what folks do there these days. I really only hit WvW when I need to or if some guildies want to form a WvW group.

I've not played a guardian past level 30 something, but for my mesmer, I use two different sets of armor for whatever I plan to do. I have a set of armor designed to help me outlast opponents and the berserker set with enough vitality to not die to a light breeze immediately, to see if I can take someone down fast enough.

I found going after the exotic karma armor was a nice place to start if you're looking for more than a single set of armor, since the stats on 4/6 of the armor meets one set while 2 other pieces are usually giving other stats. Check out the Armor Sets page on the GW2 wiki for more information. The stats differ by type (Heavy/Medium/Light).

    For comparison:
    (Cnd Dmg/Crit Dmg/Heal/Power/Precision/Tough/Vit)
    101/0 /146 /68 /176 /120 /152 (Dwayna)
    68 /0 /180 /67 /176 /96 /176 (Armageddon)

    101/0 /79 /135/128 /168 /152 (Infiltration)

Each set has the rune set of the name in parenthesis. A full set costs 252k karma. 42k per piece.

I enjoyed getting one of these sets first since they were a little more versatile, you can always salvage them later for the runes and ectos if you want.

I am at that point in my MMO cycle (happens on every MMO) where playing single player is old and I am ready to quit. While I don't mind going and doing some jumping puzzles or my dailies or world exploration by myself, I can't level or do the other general level 80 farming alone. Jumping into TS allows me to get a better idea what others on TS are doing. Quite a few times I'd be staring at my map wondering what to do when I hear Sage, or Rysk or someone talking about this thing or that thing they are doing and I'll go check it out. Sometimes we group, sometimes we don't, but it's good for getting ideas.

I'm not some super team-player, I use TS for purely selfish reasons!

Guild chat also goes through it's ups and downs, but rarely in the past few weeks have I seen anyone looking for a dungeon group or (lower level) fractal not fill up rather quickly. Hell, I had a bit of confusion a few days ago and ended up finding 8 other guildies standing outside SE waiting to group up.

I lost my point to this post. Would someone let me know if they find it?

Recently I started using my full Berserker set with defensively-minded traits (plus crit damage/precision) and utilities in dungeons, and I've seen a dramatic increase in damage over my old build, something like 200-300%. My healing is about half as good, but playing more carefully means I die only a bit more than before. It really came into focus when I was doing SE. The end of one of the paths has two bosses you need to down at the same time, and after looking at the bars for a couple minutes, I realized I was a good 40-50% of my party's damage. Damage stats scale SO much better than defensive ones, and killing things is good damage reduction.

I would encourage everyone to obtain some exotic berserker's gear and weapon(s), it's really a huge difference.

You're still having fun but it's only with other people and not solo! Therefore, folks should plan to find guildies to hang out with because it's a fun time.

I'm the same way. I don't enjoy doing solo stuff in this game, haven't for a while. Joining the guild and hanging out with you folks is the only reason I didn't quit some time ago.

Interesting. To give you the reason I'm trying to find that set that works in well for both the high DPS or the more survivability build is because the first thing I did when I hit 80 was farm gold for the Tier 3 Human set. I've got all but one piece. I'm basically trying to find the one set that's viable so that I can transmute the stats to my stupidly expensive armor set. Knight's just seemed the best but I wanted to add some Berserker to up the dmg and maybe a Soldier's for the HP. I thought of going with 2 of each but I thought that would sacrifice too much damage with 2 pieces of Soldier.

This might be one method to get what you want with karma instead of gold, since you'll need it for your final T3 piece.
