Hey guys. I just got a message back from Scoots in the Handheld lounge. If anyone wants to get together for Dragon Quest 9, we're set for Saturday at 3pm. If you want to get some maps or do some group dungeon crawling come on by! I'll do my best to be there and I don't currently see anything that would stop me. I'm also gonna assume that Wizard will do his best to be there and will be wearing his Slime hat for easy identification. If anything changes I'll sent out a Tweet. My account is @paullanglois so keep an eye out. On the day of the meet I'll also Tweet what I'm wearing so you can ID me as well.

And on a more general note, mt FE:A avatar goes by the name Atrion. At the very least, he should useful for cannon fodder. ;)

sweet! I'm in! pending on the pax schedule of course... is there any lvl I should aim for? I'm at 20 right now... is that too low? should I start some heavy grinding?

Not really. Obviously, if a group of low level characters go into a higher level dungeon there will be problems. But if you keep that in mind you'll be fine. And level is not a factor if you're only interested in getting maps.

Hope I'll be able to make it, but that's probably going to be a busy part of the weekend.

I have been absolutely unable to find Fire Emblem *anywhere* remotely near here for the past two weeks.
I did, however, finally just manage to swing a store pickup at a relatively close Wal-Mart and will be getting it after work!

I will also be bringing DQ9 with me and pending the schedule will try to make the map trade. I think the only multiplayer I've ever done in DQ9 was when me and one other person attempted a level 99 boss with horribly under-leveled characters last year.

That's really my goal this year, though - more interaction and less time spent in lines.

I just got a 3DSXL last weekend and am incredibly excited to have it at PAX!
Right now I only have Fire Emblem (and will be cosplaying a character from it), but will definitely be picking up Monster Hunter.

Does anyone know if there is a booth/room where you can check out a DS? I've never actually played a game on one (Last handheld I had was a 'gameboy color.')

I'm in quite the same boat as you! I picked up a 3dsxl 2 weeks ago for PAX along with Fire Emblem. Love the game. I also just pre-ordered Monster Hunter.

Also, if you like to read, might I suggest 999 (9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors) for the DS. There's not a WHOLE lot in the way of gameplay, but it has a really great story and worth the $20 new (imho). A sequel just came out that is supposed to be even better.

I look forward to my army going up against everyone's FE army. Fear my mages!!

I initially skipped Mario Kart 7 out of boredom/disappointment with the series. Then I begrudgingly downloaded it last night for PAX...and hey, it's pretty awesome. Coins are back, course design is great, and the gliders shake things up nicely instead of being the gimmick they appeared to be. Did I mention coins are back?

    Because coins are totally back.

Also, the motion control works just fine, in case you're like me and your left thumb isn't exactly in its prime.

So, even if a new Mario Kart makes you roll your eyes at this point, you might want to give it a try and consider bringing it to the con.

If you don't have it already, I'm assuming Mario Kart 7 and Star Fox 64 3D are 'must buy' since they are tournament games.

Guys and gals, if my army shows up in your game from a Streetpass, and you're playing Classic, and you haven't leveled the shit outta your dudes...please do not fight me. I don't want to be responsible for the loss of all your characters due to my unrelenting and unmerciful band of striaight-up killers.
Is it really evil of me to reclass my squad to level 1 right before the con, after they've all been through 4-5 classes through level 20?

That is deliciously evil, but I always check up on the team stats/inventories before I fight. Everyone else though...

Does anyone know what the deal is with MH3? I see adds for "multiplayer" on it, but then some articles i find say you need to connect to a WiiU, and other articles says the same but that you also need a special adapter...

So to be clear, there is no 3ds multiplayer without a WiiU?

I read somewhere that it will only support local multiplayer on the 3DS but you need some sort of adapter and the WiiU for online multiplayer.

Update: Here is the link talks about Europe and says it should come to North America. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/03/monster_hunter_3_ultimates_3ds_online_multiplayer_workaround_is_coming_to_europe

THAT is good news! I actually came across that article and it seemed really confusing, as when it talked about local multiplayer, it referenced their previous article describing the adapter and all. Least I don't have to buy a WiiU now (still)! xD Can't wait for pax even more now. :)

I got my Monster Hunter today. I'm not crazy about it but I'll force myself to enjoy it.

Edit: Oh man Luigi/Pokemon available early? Good thing I have no interest in either... though that Pikachu 3DSXL is oh so tempting (only at the $160 tag at Target though)

A friend and I each picked up Monster Hunter yesterday and will have it to play. I've never played a game in the series before, so I'm pretty stoked to give it a try!

Dach and I will be there with Monster Hunter. I'm a bit of a newb having only played a little of mhfu before, but he's a pro. Monster Hunter is a very complex game that can easily overwhelm in the early stages. I think having people to walk you through will be a huge boon. If you've ever considered the MH franchise but were afraid to dive in I'd recommend buying it and getting some coaching this weekend. It's your best shot to get hooked on it. Just keep in mind the 3DS version can only do local multi but its saves can be transferred to the wiiu version which CAN go over the internet, so you can keep your progress that you make at PAX. See you soon!

Just bought one of these as well. Don't know why I never did before, but after playing 4 hours of Monster Hunter, and for the first time actually enjoying a Monster Hunter, I figured it would be for the best.

I'm also setting up my Monster Hunter. This is going to rock.

Still rocking my DS Fat, though I would love to pick up a 3DS sometime. I've got Mario Kart DS (the best Mario Kart (until I play MK7)), Brain Age 1, Big Brain Academy, Clubhouse Games (maybe I'll get to make some 420 MLG BATTLESHIP 360 NOSCOPE CARRIERSHOTZ); and WarioWare Mega MicroGame$ and Twisted for GBA.
Also, I've got a GBA SP, and I'll be bringing along my Game Boy Camera, because why not.

    - Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy
