It was nice watching the players dealing with stuff they haven't practiced a billion times before.
May just be me, but the more known a map gets, the less fun it is to watch. When the announcers can call the victor based on who gets the third peon out or whatever, just makes for a dull game.
must be why everyone hates taldarim alter, even though data shows it's one of the most balanced maps in the game right now
so wait, what is everyone watching? I missed it because I was dying in HotS

Something you guys might not have noticed - you can select, independently, the text language in your client as well as the speech/unit sounds language.
I'm just trying out having Korean sounds and English language.
That game felt more like a BW game than anything I've seen from SC2 yet, which is a good thing. I was on the edge of my seat all game long, and fucking cheered when Fantasy broke out of the contain and turned the game around. This is why we need more interesting and unique maps.

I can't pinpoint what made it feel like a BW game besides the desert tileset which is reminiscent of common BW maps.

The players have known about this map setup for weeks - you can bet that the assigned players have been smashing out 40+ games per day on their specific map.
I agree with you regarding the new stuff being exciting, but I think Arkanoid is a good map for more than just the newness.
Yeah, I know they've been playing on it, but compare it to some of the other maps where it seems that every possible combination and tactic has been played and reviewed and replayed a billion times, and even those weeks of 40+ games a day leave plenty of space for surprises and new tactics, especially considering that the players don't have any idea how the other player normally plays on the map, unless they stream their practice games.
I like the rocks, it seems to encourage longer games requiring players to either go for early air or spend time busting rocks if they want to end it before the rocks break themselves. Seems like it'll encourage players to go for higher tech units that aren't seen very often.

come on rain, smash this noob, justify my faith in you for my fantasy league, and then I can play HotS for six hours straight.

I never watched BW until long after SC2 was out, but it seemed to me like there was a significant amount of open space that isn't there on other maps. The only other map I can think of that even comes close is TDA, which still has some unpathable ground in and around the middle.
Now I'm in bronze. Lol. Well, that certainly is a blow to the ego.
Ohhh, so that's what the point of the "leave league" button is - I guess it drops you from your league and forces the system to immediately recalculate your proper league based on your current MMR.
That's a good idea.

Who are the casters in Proleague? Just turned on the Stream and I already dislike one guy both of them.

You hit the nail.
Except on Arkanoid, the empty space is actually relevant - there IS chokes and such, and the open space around armies is used for slipping past them, moving through some chokes and tunnels to set up flanks, set up runbys.
Whereas a lot of the open space on TDA is actually unused because the only relevant bits are the highground bits.
I really like the lack of constant highground areas in the kespa maps so far.

Lol, I cant tell if this is sarcastic or not, but in case its not, I guess it's a good idea. I wasn't sure exactly what was going on with that button, but I guess it's useful if you go through a straight losing or winning streak but having issues getting promoted/demoted.

Yeah that's what I meant. I know a couple of occasions when PA people have been playing constant Masters players but not quite able to make that hop into promotions - so leaving your league and re-placing will allow you to accurately evaluate your MMR.

He said that he and HasuObs spent about half a day testing colossus battles and splitting was nearly never worth it if you weren't pre-split - apparently their conclusion was that while it was effective at reducing incoming colossus damage, it took a lot of firing time away from colossi and overall reduced your OUTGOING damage by more than you reduced incoming by.

but I am DETERMINED to make swarm hosts work for me in HotS now. They're such a flavorful unit

I think that depends more on the relative army sizes; I've beaten 5 Collosi with 3 before (and I overall had a smaller army as I was behind) just because I split and because the other guy had everything clumped

How extensive was their testing?
I have no idea of the exact methods, he just said half a day.

There's probably an upper limit where it's no longer worthwhile (like, 6 or 7+)

no one really attacks at low colossus counts in pvp anymore
Is it better to make extra drones periodically to transfer to your third/fourth? Or is it better to use those larva in units then when the third is close to popping, just make a huge round of drones?

the sooner you make a drone, the sooner it can pay itself off. And better to make your drones at a time when you don't need the units so much - ie, when your opponent is still building up his tech and army.
+1

Here's my replays from today on HotS
as usual disclaimer - I have no idea how educational any of these will be, some of them were against okay players some were genuinely bad, some were good.
ugh, terran mech is so GOOD. Dhal, you were right, swarmhosts are much more effective in critical mass, but critical mass tanks > critical mass swarm hosts. I tried to make a tech switch to mutas, but too little too late. Terran seems incredibly powerful right now

critical mass of tanks can break the locust wave, but it still costs them a tank volley
as the locusts engage, dart in with speed hydras, pick off a few tanks, then retreat.

i cant tell you how goddamn good it feels to finally have a midgame harassment option as Protoss that doesn't require a massive investment of unrecoverable units.

Go into your options and make sure you tick the checkbox on
Show Current Order Indicator
Enable Enemy Unit Selection
and untick
Display Experience Points
for some reason, the default setting for those three settings is the goddamn opposite of what any reasonable person should want.

but that's a big if
especially for the 1a race
do NOT group your mothership core with your main army for any reason if you have sentries
i just missed a ff and 7 stalkers walked up my ramp when i had 2 + a sentry and 3 phoenixes.
I still won cos im boss but yeah embarassing
don't be fucking ridiculous
two control groups!?
HotS confirmed for glorious expansion: Makes Protoss use two control groups
