I need to pick up a good fighting game again. I need something to tide me over until either Virtua Fighter 3 comes out, or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I'd like to get something for the Saturn, as I prefer it's gamepad for fighters and have no problem buying the RAM cart. I know of Marvel vs Capcom, but I don't really care to play that again. Any other's that some one can suggest?
I'm down for picking one up for the Dreamcast as well, but I basically need something to tide me over, as mentioned above, and since I recently pulled out my Saturn to get down on some Panzer Dragoon Saga, I figured I'd get some more miles out of the ole girl.
I generally stick to Samurai Shodown and Virtua Fighter, but I'm open for anything.
Outside of the Capcom arcade releases of X-Men:Children of the Atom and X-Men vs Street Fighter, the only other totally bitchin fighting game is Fighters Megamix
What about imports? There are a ton of great Neo Geo ports for the Saturn. I'll try and recommend a lesser-known one, Waku Waku 7. Completely batshit insane 2D fighter with some really cool character designs and lots of personality.
Let's not forget Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game! Heh.
Another interesting and different fighter was Astra Superstars, also only available as an import. All the fighting takes place in midair, and you can dodge attacks by either "jumping" up or down. I remember it being very goofy, but fun.
While the core game isn't a fighting game, Guardian Heroes does have a fighting mode that can actually be a lot of fun. Pick any character in the game (from gods to peasants) and duke it out up to 4 person multiplayer. With 3 "depth" levels, there's elements of strategy to use. Oh, and the regular game is pretty awesome too.

Street Fighter Alpha 2 is the best.
It was the definitive version until the Anthology came out, but it's still great. Art gallery, too.
(Not sure if Anthology has that...)

Guardian Heroes is civilization.
Also, you can use Randy's little rabbit friend as a character in the fighting arena.
...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

Just a minor correction: it actually allows up to 6 players in the versus mode. It kind of gets crazy.
Man, if the DC had a saturn pad available, it would be the best console for 2d fighters ever.
You know, I think it does... from Japan, at least. I could be wrong about that, but I vaguely remember seeing one before.
And since I noticed there's a request for DC fighters, go get Last Blade 2.
If you really want some mileage for the Saturn, get Dragon Force. I don't think there's any game in the world that makes you want to replay it more times in a row(try eight) than that.

Nando was all kinds of awesome. I remember he had a total of maybe two attacks: Turn into a fireball and fly around, or a little kick that you could hardly see on screen. Such a great game.

You know, I was thinking it was more than 4, but it's been years since I played it. I stand corrected.

My friend used to always kick my ass with that little rabbit, even when I was some uber character. He'd get that little lightning kick going, and I wouldn't be able to move until I was dead. It was cheap, but what else is a rabbit to do?
So while the vs. mode can be a little unbalanced, with a little patience and strategy, crazy shit can happen.
Did anyone mention Virtua On? Aside from Guardian Heroes, that was probably the other game my friend and I wasted a lot of time playing. Those battles could feel epic at times.

I'd just grab Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram for the Dreamcast, instead, if you're going to play the series at all. Both of'em are great, but there's a lot more that the sequel has going for it.

alpha2 is very good except the load times kinda suck.
Yeah, which is where Anthology wins. I sure never minded back then though. I was just used to them.
I loved Marvel Super Heroes too.
Alpha 2 is fantastic, but as said above, there is a better version available elsewhere. I'll throw in another vote for darkstalkers.

You've got that import-playing cartridge, right?
EDIT: For the Dreamcast, if you don't have Power Stone yet, you need it. Other than that, there's just the obvious ones (Soul Calibur, MVC2, etc).
God, I miss that game.
Nothing's forgotten, nothing is ever forgotten

Big fighting mechs. What more do you need?
It's awesome
And it's by Capcom.
Info here
It's not too expensive either
Man I wish my Saturn still worked.
I KISS YOU!
can also pick up king of fighters for the saturn.

hmm, I should have a look around for that then.
Dragon Force? Definitely. Awesome... awesome game.
also of note:
techromancer and street fighter 3: third strike on dreamcast. oh and garou mark of the wolves. and that rival schools sequel.

pick dragon, fly all the way to the top of the screen, spam uber fireballs. You can't get hit. Or fly into the background.
What's fun is a mayor vs. mayor battle.

BRODIAAAAA!
You said you have a DC, right? Do we have to go into all the awesome fighting games for that, again? You can stumble over a dozen without even trying.
That I know.
I'm focusing on the Saturn, though, because I already have two controllers for it.
the import is much cheaper. That's what I hated, the US version goes for so much.
I remember this crazy combo fest game of all girl fighters...I think that's Saturn as well. Asuka Super 100% Burning Fest or something like that.
I mean, c'mon, it let's you play as a gay couple (Damian Shade and Rudolph Gartheimer)! Mega-points right there.
2-on-2, tag team fighting action. It even allows for 4-player action, each player controlling his own character.
Of course, it uses the Saturn's 4Meg RAM cart for all the animation. Definitely worth checking out.
