Fun fact, because they changed ship progression to be based on earning ship XP people who own premiums have next to zero reasons to actually play them.
Looooooooooooool. They can't even gouge their customers properly. Fucking hilarious.

They at least had the good sense to put WT through its crazy economy changes before they presented it to a large audience on Steam.
its a little difficult to explain, I havent played BF2 in years. I'd say its a bit slower than BF2, in that you dont have to constantly be changing your heading in order to keep from leaving the battlefield.
at the tier 2 to 3 levels, the actions and speed of combat mean that you have to commit to your actions and live with those decisions, even in arcade mode. unfortunately in arcade mode, having the best turning speed at the moment is the best way to win fights if you enter a dogfight.
I havent been in historical battles, yet, but many of the others have and they seem to like it. the stakes are a bit higher because you only get one life in a match and the flight model is less forgiving, but that means the aircraft behave more like they should.
It's fast, but it doesn't feel BF2 fast almost entirely because you can't cross the entire map in a few seconds. These maps are absolutely huge and give players plenty of room to run and have a really high ceiling so bombers can do their thing properly. So even though I'm hauling ass in my Typhoon and doing 500KPH it doesn't feel like it unless you're right at ground level doing maneuvers.
You don't really realize how fast 600 kph is when you're a kilometer off the ground. It's quite a bit more noticeable if you're trying to buzz the treetops.
The landscapes are (generally) designed with aircraft speed in mind, so there aren't really narrow canyons or buildings you can fly between. I'd guess most of them are like 75 km by 75 km? Arcade maps tend to be smaller. Operations maps tend to be larger (like ...basically the actual flight time from Calais to Ramsgate for the Battle of Britain map).
Flight model bug fixed for He.112B-0
Fixed ‘Virtual PC attempt” error message
Gaming chat in the Events mode is now divided for different languages
During the update on War Thunder servers, some players may experience problems joining the game. All issues will be fixed ASAP, sorry for inconvenience.
EDIT: I now own all of the tier 6 and 7 US planes! I just need to get the cash to put em into service now.
Speaking of US planes, here's the big secret to flying them: Manual roll control. The game is going to try and make you use your rudder to do things. Your job is to scream at the game NO, FUCKING STOP THAT and to manually roll your plane where you want to go and use nothing but elevator to do things.
Because of this, US planes are hilariously good at using scissor tactics to dodge fire and to get people to over shoot. I started going nuts using them tonight and without fail I kept dodging fire and eventually either getting away or getting to kill my attacker.
Finally, don't wrench US planes around, they don't like it at all. Keep your turns and maneuvers very gentle to keep your speed as high as possible. These planes are really good retaining energy as long as you do your part of the job.
I've been playing this quite a bit the last 2 weeks or so, I really enjoy it. Unfortunately I like it alot better than World of Warplanes, which sucks because I'm heavily invested and really like World of Tanks so the prospect of combined premium from both games would have been great.
I'd love to play a bit w/ some other people, just been solo'ing and pubbing so far, I'm up to rank 5 in Germany and UK. Is there a squadron or anything anyone has put together? My name in game is same as on the PA forums (Orestus).
A squadron will get formed once I'm sure we've got enough PA bros to not make it a bad investment. Right now we've only got a few dedicated players but if we get a decent enough group going I'll be more than happy to get a proper squadron rolling.
Downloading this now. Hopefully it plays nice with my 360 controller 'cos I've not had good experience with using KB/M with plane games in the past.
Edit: Got started. Am I doing it right?
360 controller misbehaves somewhat - keeps trying to pitch up by default and the keyboard controls are... stubborn. (Took 6 tries to get through the tutorial shooting stationary goddamn aircraft)

While you certainly CAN use a controller, @campy and @f3rret might not recommend it.
Controller is hard mode when everyone else is on easy. I was thinking about it, and with the controller, you're manipulating the pieces of your plane, like rudder, ailerons, elevators, whatever. Then according to those manipulations, your plane does stuff.
With the mouse, you tell the plane where you want it to point, and the AI manages all your plane parts for you. This is a HUGE difference if you're trying to aim at and shoot a guy, especially since they have recoil in the game. With a controller, you really only get one burst and then your plane noses up, screwing up your aim. With a mouse, you point and hold down the trigger. The AI is autocorrecting for the recoil instantly, keeping you on target.
So since I am now off on das boot, I installed Wings of Prey for WW2 stupid plane shootans. All I gotta say is looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool. The amount of copied assets from that game in War Thunder is hilarious (yes, they are the exact same devs).
Props to the devs for putting that pretty solid mouse aim mode in WT though. WoP could really use it for casual plane shootans though at least my 360 pad works fine.
Are you using an Nvidia card? Get into your Nvidia control panel and disable stereoscopic 3d. It tends to start games with it enabled by default if it's on.
Just started playing this, up to almost rank 6 with UK. Will start messing with US next.
You're gonna be in for a rough time if you haven't seen my prior posts about how to fly US planes. Short version: Get really used to manually rolling your plane so that you can use your elevators to do the heavy lifting and be kinda gentle with em during maneuvers. Their big assets are their massively awesome elevators and great speed so BnZ tactics work well for them. The US planes are just completely opposite to the UK turn fighters like the Spitfires so be aware of that going in. I really like the US lineup, it just requires a big shift in tactics gears.
That tier III bomber for Japan is neigh indestructable. I had four planes on my six just lighting me up, I hopped into the gunners seat and took out 2 of them. Taking down single engine planes is stupid easy when they are .3 clicks off your ass and flying straight. The other 2 continued following as my gunner kept saying he was reloading, but never reloaded. I eventually tried to bank and they cut off my left elevator and I went for a tumble.
I like this game enough that my wife is already getting mad at me for playing it for 2 days straight lol.

Pretty much this. You won't have to wait long for someone to show up and shoot ww2 mans with you.

Any tips on how to make my controls less janky?

Are we seeing more Vent traffic? I was gonna hold off till we had two four mans being a thing on at least a vaguely regular basis.
A few nights ago we had 6-7.
