Shooting doesn't feel tight, getting the gun sway upgrade helped but I'm still missing shots that I would have made in any other third person shooter.

Err, so what you're saying is that Joel is not as good a shot as master chief?

Let's just think a moment about why they may have designing the shooting to be a bit inaccurate in a survival horror game.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

pfff Master Chief has got nothing on Brick top Joel.

Isn't Halo full of auto-aiming trickery anyway? That said, the sway before any upgrades is downright brutal.

Yeah, when I was sneaking through the town near the high school, I saw quite a few white seams between textures. In an Uncharted game, that would have felt like a glaring bug. In TLoU, I saw it, shrugged, and moved on. I knew how big of a project they made for themselves, and I'm willing to let that small visual bug go.

Also, the more I play it, the less like Uncharted it feels. They unfairly gave themselves the 'post apocalyptic Uncharted' tag with the opening chapters, which really were post apocalyptic Uncharted, with plenty of cover shooting and human enemies in run down city levels. As you play more, and get into fights with Infected, get further into the game, you start to play it very differently. You need to take it much slower, you need to be more careful, you need to stealth kill.

On the aforementioned abundance of ammo - I've found that is a good representation of how well you're playing. If you're stealth killing a lot, conserving ammo, using makeshift weapons like molotovs, you'll build up a considerable amount of ammo - until you hit the weapons pre-assigned limits. However, I've found if you fuck up, like, at all, it's gone. I've gone from 2 medkits, 2 nail bombs, 2 molotovs, full 9mm and revolvers, full bow, shotgun and hunting rifle, and accidentally alerting a clicker.

The result was me expending nearly all of that, and needing both medkits - 1 during the fight, 1 after. Both molotovs gone, most of my shotgun ammo gone, all of my pitsol ammo gone (from both pistols), and down to my hunting rifle, which I don't much like due to its bolt action nature. It's very easy to feel safe when you have plenty of supplies and ammo, get cocky, blow it, and lose everything. I think it's something Naughty Dog deliberately designed most fights to do to you - if you play well, you'll keep your shit. If you fuck up, you'll lose it all, and maybe die in the process.

I wouldn't go that far. They scratch different itches. If I want to grab an AK and plug some pirates full of holes, TLoU isn't the game I'll be booting up. Likewise, if I want a tense, scary game where the combat is more in your face, Uncharted isn't the game I'll be booting up.

It's nice to have a few fantastic games in the same purdy engine that scratch different itches, though.

I seriously cannot wait to see what ND does with Uncharted 4 or TLoU 2 on the PS4.

I thought there were weaknesses in Uncharted's scene direction and aciton pacing that The Last of Us manages to get around beautifully

Not to say that Last of Us doesn't have flaws, because it does, but it took my biggest complaints about Uncharted (no sense of danger even though Drake is always a breath away from dying, combat that I wanted to throw out a window) and fixed them

Just beat the game, holy fuck. The first couple of hours (minus the phenomenal prologue) are very inferior to the rest of the game. While playing the early parts of the game it felt no different then Uncharted, good but overrated. The rest of the game bumps it up to game of the generation for me.
I only used the flamethrower once during the rest of the game, so when I got to the hospital the fireflies got to live up to their name. Side note: The flamethrower rules versus body armor.

By that time I had so bought into the narrative that I was just like Joel: There was no fucking way I was going to let some military fucks sacrifice another little girl for the "greater good". Everybody including surrendering nurses were put down with extreme prejudice.

The final sequence carrying Ellie has a cutscene that triggers if you fail it. The military takes Ellie away to be dissected and executes Joel. For a second there I thought that was the real ending. I was very upset until the sequence restarted.

New game plus is very generous, here. You keep all your upgrades, there's your standard Naughty Dog rendering filters - a nice touch, but nothin' I need - and a ton of unlockable but setting-reasonable costumes for Joel and Ellie. (In addition to all her in-game outfits, Ellie gets a bunch of Naughty Dog-brand shirts and hoodies.)

Also, this game gives you so much more ammo and stuff on Normal mode. It might be too easy, but after beating it on Hard, I deserve a break.

Survivor difficulty I'll tackle later. When I'm in a platinuming mood. OMG - does this one force multiplayer trophies on you..? Yes... yes it does.

One thing I wish this game had was Chapter Select. I get why it can't - it's a survival game, and I'd hate to skip to a chapter and discover I don't have the gear I had when I first got to it, or didn't have anything close to what I'd hoarded - but there are a lot of action sequences I wish I could repeat.

    "The Hunt" springs to mind.

Fall is like, a gamey game. But then suddenly winter changes everything, which I just didn't expect anymore. Playing as Ellie was just so interesting storywise, seeing all the shit she picked up from Joel! And just as I realize that the zombies just don't scare me at all, they take the time to suddenly build a really interesting villain and develop a whole story arch that has a terrifying conclusion that teaches me that naughty dog doesn't have to rely on zombies to scare the shit out of me.
The way this chapter weaves together gameplay with storytelling and then throws in all the uncharted tech of snow and fire, just for fun will really stick with me. One chapter has more story and wit then a whole game normally does.

I'm assuming you beat that chapter in this spoiler:
I kinda' disagree with "gamey game" - I assume you're primarily referring to the sniper rifle sequence after you work your way through that barrage - but I reckoned it was sort of necessary to make you feel powerful again after being almost totally at the mercy of the sniper.

Fall sets up Ellie's "becoming" as she - by the end of that chapter - becomes the Badass Warrior we always knew she would be, and sets up her punchline in Winter as she desperately tries to get Joel to acknowledge that he cares about her. Winter, for its part, is kind of the closing of the narrative of Ellie's relationship with Joel - you're totally right in that it paints such a vivid picture of their relationship and the impact he's had on her, when we begin to see so much of him in her. And for her part, Ellie's central question is answered when he comes for her and calls her "my sweet little girl."

    Spring spoilers:
Meanwhile, Spring concludes the arc of Joel's relationship with Ellie, if you get the difference. The entire game was him suffering the loss of Sarah, and refusing to ever let anything else in again, or care for anyone more than survival. One of the first things we see New Joel doing in the start of the game is treating life very, very cheaply - and his slaughter of the Fireflies to save Ellie's life at the expense of all mankind is him... I dunno... giving in to his love for the girl. A suicide mission for love. Beautiful and terrible.

The Spring chapter itself is a wonderful tiny arc, as Joel and Ellie watch the giraffes, you can tell what he's thinking - life will go on, the world will still be beautiful and the survivors will survive regardless of whether or not he hands her over - so he then turns to her and, in his Joel way, asks her not to go.

    It's just beautiful.

the way the game jumps around, if they make any dlc of the game, Summer is probably the place to do it. I mean, you go from Pittsburgh to Wyoming, which is quite the fucking jump.

Also, the end of summer was super fucking depressing. So far, I've been enjoying Fall because of its slower pace and continued great character interaction.

Outside of spoilers, I think one of the only things that has bugged me with this game is the arbitrary limit of ammo on some guns. Am I really to believe the large magnum can really only carry one bullet? And that the rifle can only start with one round? It was annoying.

Hunting rifle starts with a internal (non detachable) 2 round magazine, that's one worse than the real life Remington 700 that the internet presumes is the base model for the game's gun.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remington_Model_700

Edit maybe I'm wrong, does it start with one round? Which makes no sense as a one round internal magazine would still result in 2 rounds, one in the chamber and one in the magazine.

Yeah, I really loved winter and what they did with that storyline
I nearly put "what they did with the villain" out of spoilers, but it's great because there's a while there where you're genuinely questioning if this guy's truly a baddy or not. I mean he's a bit creepy from the beginning, but then everyone in this world is damaged. And even once you know he was in charge of the guys who attacked the university, there's still a bit of wiggle room on how truly bad he is - the point he makes about "you do the exact same thing as me" is very similar to what the brother argued successfully a few hours ago.

And then when he's finally revealed in all his psychotic, pedophilic, cannibal creepiness Elli just gets to be fucking awesome. She's obviously scared shitless, but instead of crumbling she just gets nastier and nastier and steals every trick she can from Joel's murder playbook. And then meanwhile we get to see what Joel does to people he's angry at, which makes his previous violence seem friendly in comparison.
