Hey guys... I Am Alive... Was it any good? The trailer looks amazing but the mediocre reviews suggest differently. I come to you guys for guidance. Is it worth $5?
That's Giant Bomb's Quick Look. I know Brad didn't love it by the end, said it was just too janky to be great. Sounded like what playing Hydrophobia was like. Some cool shit, but just not worth it, ultimately.
Eventually, Patrick went through an played it. He liked it, but admits that it's pretty junky, but that it feels survivor horror, and he likes that feel.
Me, it looked too..."mechanical." Like you do option A ALWAYS for every situation that is an A situation. Plus, The Last of Us looks like this, but done super right.
Wow, so Hotline Miami.... so many levels of wow. @minor incident, I can't get the music out of my head and, aside from the initial shock at how fast the enemies are and how fucked up everything is, it seems like a mechanically fair sort of game. Good stuff, thanks.

If it is anything like the summer sale, games showed up as votes on more than one occasion. Definitely time for it to re-appear (and then lose the vote again!)
I'm torn by this GetLoadedGo deal. On the one hand, I keep meaning to pick up Shogun 2/Fall of the Samurai. On the other hand, Civ V GOTY is, Mrs. Croaker assures me, very good. But the GOTY doesn't have Gods and Kings.
On the other hand, it's possible that the Sale will push out all of these items on daily - Civ V and Shogun 2 seem to pop up a lot.
On the other hand, £10...
Think I'll have a cup of tea, go to dinner, and try and decide after that.
Ok, no one PM'ed me for The Binding of Isaac + DLC steam key. First person to ask it in this thread will receive the key in his PM inbox. (I know it's available for like 1$ in the Humble Indie Bundle, but hey, figured someone might like to get it for free)

Yes it was. Sending you the key right now. Congrats .

Yeah, all dailies last 48 hours total but a new set of them will pop up in 2 hours.
I'm gonna vote for Half-Life..I think pretty much everybody owns all these games already, but a HL deal will probably also drop Episode 1 & 2's price, which I still don't own.
Does Republic Commando still hold up? I remember playing the demo on the Xbox and thinking it was alright (and kind of wishing they'd made it like Full Spectrum Warrior, I loved the mechanics of that game, favourite squad-gameplay ever) but then forgetting about it. Dark Forces is amazing though, I loved it more than Doom, Quake and Duke3D.
I got Republic Commando and played through it during one of the last Winter sales. Off the top of my head, I'd say it's worth a few bucks and hours, but there are caveats;
- There are sections with infinitely respawning enemies until you do X or Y (most are simple and easily dealt with, there were a few that were a giant pain in the ass).
- Most of the guns are about as effective as harsh language. However, the melee attack will serve you faithfully from start to end.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
I am trying very hard to produce a measured response. Houn's opinion and mine are so far removed it's hard to even know where to begin. It's okay for people to have different opinions and his views on Borderlands don't necessarily mean he's a serial puppy kicker.
Many, many people enjoy BL and BL2 solo. I would say 80-85% of my hours played (on PC, another 160+ on XBox) for both games are solo. And there were plenty of lifers in the Borderlands thread who never played multi. Coop is awesome, but lots of people logged dozens (and hundreds) of hours without ever teaming up. Some folks don't like checking stats on all the guns they find. Some folks didn't find the shooting to their tastes. Some folks are retroactively mad at the game for the ending. I also suspect that a lot of people who tried the game didn't realize the importance of the accuracy stat on guns. Lots of the starter guns are absolute vendor trash. A sniper with accuracy 92 is going to whiff a lot at distance and you have to practically be inside a baddie to hit it with a shotgun with accuracy 10. Once you find a couple weapons that you like, though, man the game just takes off.
The magic sauce is the looting. They really nailed it in BL 1. You can be struggling along, hiding and sniping and inching forward and then find a new gun that just opens the whoopass barn door and suddenly you are plunging into mobs and ramboing it up for a couple levels. So in that sense it's got the one-more-chest appeal of Diablo with solid shooting, some fantastic writing and characterization (no worthwhile plot to speak of, though), and light RPG skilltree elements.
BL2 is a different story. Hours 5-25 are fantastic, but I'm definitely more sympathetic to folks who didn't enjoy SP there, especially because the game is so absurdly stingy with purple and orange drops. Great game, and my cup of tea, obv. But not as pure a tap on some neural joy center as BL.
Come cruise the BL thread for opinions other than mine if you want (although at $7.50 or even $5 for just the base game you really ought to throw down and decide for yourself...)
(An OP of an older BL thread, like ten maybe, will give you a better flavor of the first game. Plus lots of first time tips if you decide to take the plunge.)
Thanks for this post, I think I'm going to buy BL, $7.50 for the GOTY is pretty cheap anyway. I'll make sure to go in the BL thread once I bought it.
OMD was a lot of fun, but single player only. Basically, you put down elaborate traps to stop hordes of orcs getting to a rift/gate, and they die in various horribly amusing ways (I was particularly fond of using a tar trap to slow them down, then setting them on fire). Each level was 15-30 minutes, good fun.
The additional DLC from the franchise pack is..er..Saints Row 3 levels of fun. It's at least a *little* overpowered, but on the other hand, as you're turning hordes of orcs into chunky kibble, you really won't care, because it's fun.
OMD2 is *basically* more of the same, but they added co-op. On the plus side, as I'm running a co-op game with a friend at the moment, the game is an absolute blast in co-op. It's utterly demented, good quick fun. However, I've been trying to play it single-player as well, and it doesn't feel terribly balanced for that - it seems much harder without a co-op partner.
On the other hand, a fair few people here own it, and will more than likely play a level or two with you - it's easy to set up matches.
ETA: It's taken me 6 hours roughly to get through most of OMD2's story mode in co-op (on Normal difficulty), and apparently it took me 11 to finish up OMD1. Hopefully that gives you a rough idea of time-investment ratio.
At this price - £6.24 for both games? Pull the trigger right now.

Are you me? I have that same hope.
It also extends to FC3.

99% of the loot was the same weapons with different strengths/weaknesses. I only went to level...15 or 17, I think. Powers were fun though.
All of that solo, of course. Even if the loot sucks Coop is awesum.

You say this as if
A) you're surprised
Borderlands is first-person Diablo with guns. It's all about mountains of loot and their modifications.

glad it's not just me!
You forgot the really shitty MMO-style kill X and fetch quests. Which is the real reason it's fatiguing to play solo.

They are wonderful - particularly if you like defense games.
I played Alan Wake on Xbox and found it to be pretty awesome. Add extra awesome if you're a fan of Twin Peaks or H.P. Lovecraft.
Don't think so, but if it does, it's an instant buy for me.

What snow button?
Clearly not my type of game then.
Not trying to paint it bad, but if you think you have a problem with that aspect Borderlands 1/2 might not be for you.
