I don't remember Dark Souls having any cinematics at all, really. Either Dark Souls II is going to have a really really long opening cinematic or a lot more cinematics sprinkled throughout.
Now I just have to fix my YLOD PS3 so I can actually retrieve my old Dark souls save files and finish the game. If I lose them, I will probably never finish the game. Not planning to do blight town again
If you hate blight town just make sure you have the master key and ride the windmill down then run straight to the boss. You can skip literally the entire area.
So many shortcuts. I would never play without the master key. Grabbing the Faith Sword by the sleeping dragon is also a great way to start the game for almost any low level character.

Despite all it's annoyance, Blighttown does have some excellent goodies in that upper part.

My only discontent with Blighttown was the way frame drops seemed like an intentional design in the area.
My only discontent with Blighttown was the way frame drops seemed like an intentional design in the area.
This really put me off on the console, but it sure didn't keep me from finishing it. It only made it frustrating in the more open area of Blightown, and seemed to cause stupid issues with input lag once in a while (PS3) while I was trudging around.
On the PC with the enhanced graphics patch, I'm getting a smooth 45-50fps, and it's amazing. Makes that place so much more bareable.
I love Blighttown. The game rewards slow and careful play, but in Blighttown it's bloody essential. Love that shit. I recommend farming bush demons for a bit to stock up on cure items first though.

Didn't play the other night, so I continued last night. I wanna get all the optional stuff done before I head into the DLC areas for the first time, so basically everything except Sif and New Londo. I headed through the Great Hollow and did Ash Lake real quick, then I finished up the Painted World and picked up Priscilla's Dagger in the process. I went to the Depths and did the upper part of Blighttown purely to collect stuff. Then I headed into the Demon Ruins and got rid of CD and Firesage before taking a break.
Looking at my stock of weapons for the Knight's Honor achievement, I'm doing pretty well. I have all the tails and most of the drops, I think I'm only missing the BKGS and BKHalberd, along with the Crescent Axe which I need to buy from Patches, and the Silver Knight Straight Sword, then I need to farm Channelers for that Trident. I remember getting it while hardly trying on PS3... I wasn't sure I was even going to try to 100% it on PC, but I might.
I also discovered that there are 9 crystal lizards in the Great Hollow, not 8 as the wiki mentions. The cave path above the first basilisks where it says #2, #3 can be found with #4 and #5 on the ledge at the other end of the cave, a third one can spawn on that ledge with #4 and #5.
I'm not sure why the crystal lizards spawn so randomly in the tree though, really weird.

Still training....got fire fist + 5 tho. Currently doing the rigamarole so I can buy up enough claws that I wont need whatshis face anymore then darkwood grain get. Just got a bunch of humanity too and upgraded a few choice bonfires.
Still got a few things to go before I'm ready. Gonna bring the house down on this buggy fuckers head.
Alvina's moaning growling purring voice is creepy as fuck. I also noticed that voice actor rolls their rrrrrr's which is a nice touch. Also dat mouth.

the main reason for the second fist is manlyness, but early on the jab is useful for interrupting a lot of enemy attacks with its speed, letting you connect a longer blow with the other hand when you have no poise. other than parry of course.
so i wouldn't put one of two elemental weapons on the jab because the damage of the jab is almost non-existent. i'd swap them in and out on the right hand for damage purposes
also random sentinel shenanigans i was doing yesterday that i forgot to mention
I was farming sentinels near the first anor londo bonfire. Just for fun I thought I'd try out the shoryuken move. Turns out with magic weapon it would kill these things in only a few hits. And if I happened to catch them while they were trying to do their dodge back it would do a ridiculous amount of counter damage.
The trick was to stick right next to their feet and make them try to do the shield slam, then you roll between their legs and start the move. Don't lock on while it is charging, but turn the camera towards them and point the left stick at them. The shoryuken will come out in whichever direction you are holding after it is finished charging, even directly behind you, as if you were facing that way the whole time. So you can start the charge with your back to them and then hit them in the back.
It was a very entertaining method of farming souls.

Once I beat the game, and start a New Game + play through, can I farm bosses in any way (for whatever reasons I chose to conjure)?
How many play through's does a single character get? I have a vague impression it's only two, and that is both stupid and sucky.
Is there a max level (I'm sure I could research this)?
Does the game, at any point, go "Good job son, now start a new character because this one is locked out and done."?

ng->ng(n) where n=number of times you beat the game
character limit is 99 in all stats. so around 700 and something.

You have no idea the joy you've bestowed upon me. I was kind of under the impression you only get to play through twice, which was preventing me from really getting into the game. I don't like knowing that there is a finite "end" in games like this...where it's literally a game of exploration, killing dudes, and getting specific loot you are looking for.
Blighttown really isn't that bad after the first couple of times through. It's mostly a matter of finding the proper path and figuring out where the poison dart blowers are camped out.

Maybe now I'll be able to get into it.
I would start out with getting all the achievements, they're actually not too grindy, they make you explore everything, and they require at least 2.5 playthroughs on a single character.
Knight Artorias is kicking my butt left, right, forwards, backwards.
All ways.
I think Im too high a level too because I havent seen any summon signs (did get invaded once, that was nice). Im SL 80. In fact I havent seen player summon signs in a while except for @heenato who I arranged coop with.
Ah well, back to throwing myself against him again and again. At least I have humanity to burn since Chester sells unlimited
Yeehaw, finished up to the second bell and recorded all the bossfights, except for the first 10 seconds of Capra.
I'm real bad at manmode Gaping Dragon. Usually I just make it do its crawl attack but that's boring and takes forever, so instead I got grabbed 3 times.
I'm allowing myself NPC summons only.

I only npc summoned for bell gargoyle and iron golem.
The only reason I summoned for iron golem is because I actually killed it. I hit it, it had no health on its lifebar. It must have had 1 hitpoint left. Then it knocked me off the tower. So basically I'd beaten it already and couldn't be fucked doing it properly twice considering how cheap that death was.
Personally I have more fun when I don't summon, so I stopped summoning completely. The two times I did summon they completely trivialised the boss fight. I decided it isn't really a proper "fist run" if you sidestep everything.
But hey I'm insane so....
I have had a total of two player summons. One was an idiot who died early and the other was awesome. I actually got myself killed with the second one, which I felt bad about. I didn't beat any bosses with either.

I thought so too, until last time I went in and I died over 20 times because he kept pushing me off the ledge.
I decided to take it real slow and I'd just go out on the walkway so he'd go to the center of the platform and I'd hit him a few times and go back to the walkway. I even threw him off the platform once, but he magically hovered and was stuck mid-air. I have a video of that, I should upload it.

Oh wow.
Claws.
Wow.
The range!
Oh jesus.
I bought 5.
I'm making a PAIR of fire claws.
Mother fucking ornstein is going down wolverine style.
The claw left hand jab is actually a proper strike. I don't know if its damage is different though. Stashing these babies away while I farm up some green titanite from these leeches. Claw left hands "jab" is actually a full power strike with lots of range.

Because they're my prey.
I don't need either of their souls.
Soon as they're both down I'm going to eat them.
OM NOM NOM
Walked in there with double fire claws +5, darkwood grain ring, 9 more end and 20 estus flasks. Wiped the floor with them.
Claws tear ornstein apart if you don't lock on to him. He can't get away from the r2 attack as long as you keep yourself pointed in his general direction, because you take a giant step towards the enemy and do this humongous arcing swipe with good recovery. It was even hitting him in his backdash move! If you have claws on both hands and press r2 again you do a second swipe using your left hand, which I assume has reach based on whatever that hand is using. So if its a fist it probably wont have the huge range.
The dodge attack with claws is a second roll to fast stab, so you can backflip away from his attack then be right back in his face and hit him again, or chase him down if he tries to backdash away from you.
If he leaves him self open for long enough a few hits of the r2 double claw combo will take chunks off. If he's standing still you can try the r1 combo, but it seems to have only slightly better range than fists so he can still get away from that relatively easily.
Once he was down smough was a joke. A big fat sad tragic joke. I honestly don't even need to go into any detail. Super smough is one of the easiest bosses in the game.
All in all this time it was an interesting fight but I felt very little tension or sense of hopelessness because my weapons could reliably hit ornstein and he couldn't do shit about it.
Anyone trying this pair with a fist run, save yourself an incredible amount of trouble and grab a couple of fire claws first. The darkwood grain ring is also absolutely awesome in combination with claws, especially that backflip combined with the dodge roll attack. It lets you run rings around them instead of the other way around.
I more or less was doing exactly the same things I had been trying to do with my cestus etc. So I knew how to dodge all their attacks, knew their patterns, knew how to keep smough occupied, knew how to use the space effectively etc. The difference boiled down to the points where I was able to actually hit ornstein for a bit before having to dodge either his or smough's counter attack. With a cestus or the dragon bone fist those points are a random crap shoot. A lot of the time you waste those precious few moments because you can't hit him at all standing toe to toe with him. Fire claws eliminated this problem. Without his buggy invincibility he crumbled like any other boss.

If you're having trouble with the blowdart guys in Blighttown, you can always just toxin yourself with Dung Pies. The dung pie toxin does piddly damage and blocks you getting the harsher poison from the blowdarts.

Warping is the best thing.

The trick is playing a game that doesn't have shoddy netcode. I love dark souls, but that might be your problem. The game just won't let you invade, because it's not very well programmed.
Kalameet might be one of my favorite boss fights so far. There's just so much to it, no cheesing to be done, just skill and timing and lots and lots of patience. I haven't beaten him yet, but I will.
Then in the Chasm of the Abyss to finish off the DLC, then Sif in the woods, then the 4 Kings and the Bed of Chaos then the endgame.

No don't do it man come on you're screwing me over! I love cool spears!, I shouted at the screen.
I know I could've just pulled the plug but I did want to get on with the game, so oh well.
That was so fucking fun.

I too had to jolly co-op through ornstein and smough. Two sunbros had the wherewithal to kill smough first so I could get the sweet spear.
In fact now that I've seen them in action, I want to join the legion of sunbros.
