Zweihander may be slow, but my god that moveset. Slamming enemies into the floor never got old. Ever. I was so sad when I ran out of room to bring its damage further and had to replace it (you'd think Demon's Greataxe would smash them into the ground, but nope).
Which stat did you raise to take yourself up to SL2 ? Dex ? My SL3 is grinding to a halt now I've done s+o in ng+. I'm happy I got this far in the first place. I wanna get to izalith tho cos i want to invade in the lava fields, red on red, but other than that i'm quite happy to knock pve on the head and just do low level invading which is really good fun when you do it properly ie just fuckin around having fun with different armours and weapons etc rather than just pure noob destruction.
Yeah I just put 1 point in to dex. Opens up a bunch of different swords and some spears. Against bosses its still reinforced club but it makes for a little more variety against trash mobs.
Pulled trough all the way in to NG++ today, think Im going to take a little break now over the weekend. But NG+ went muuuuch faster then the first time around, despite the bosses having silly amounts of HP. 4 kings were... annoying.
edit: It mostly went faster because I died a billion times on Manus, Kalameet and Gwyn on the first round. They went down much faster after having all that practice in.
Does having something on queue in your off hand add to your weight total, or is it effectively weightless like the stuff you have in your inventory?
I want to redo my setup, and have my Divine/Occult Claymore - Lucerne +10 in main hand and shield - talisman in my off hand. That way I can use sunlight blade with out redoing my whole layout

Offhand counts for equipment, yes. If it has a weight, adding it to your equipment screen will add that weight to your equip load. If it doesn't have a weight (arrows, items), it won't.
So equipping both Lucerne and Claymore will count for 11.5.

@Movitz It's the lack of a computer. I need to build one but I am a poor, poor man. Later this year, hopefully (he said for like the fifth straight year).

Hydra down, Oolacile Ivory catalyst get, Gaping down, ready to head down for Quelag. I also got my Great Scythe up to +10 and went to practice parrying on the great sword Black Knight on top of the tower and.... forgot to unequip the hornet ring and totally one shot him by accident.
What level should I be shooting for @ ol' queen spider tits these days? I'd like to coop it a couple times to meet the sunbro requirement but I think I'm sitting at like 33 right now already.
Patch 1.09 imminant, i remember patch 1.05. Patches 1-1.04 fixed issues that came apparent very early on, like the fact that the crystal ring shield was so ridiculously OP it had to be nerfed, now its virtually useless, shame.
I've noticed a weird graphical bug on the Elite Knight Set.
Throw that and and put a sheild in your off hand. Move the camera so you are looking at your characters left side. Raise the sheild. A solid beat or three after the shield is up and in place and you've stopped moving, the shoulder pad of the chest prices shifts forward (or is it back? I can't remember at the moment.)
It's really weird and awkward looking. It's not a small shift, it's like a good 1/4 rotation.

ha, jusmesssinwitchu, took my glass cannon mage build into the forest for first time last night, win rate is 70% with the majority being ohko's, losses tended to be due to walking into ganker bs traps, twop/wog spammers, or just seriously good players who knew exactly how to deal with me. On another note, dark bead at close range with 45 int + bdc ring + dusk crown + logans boom stick (not tcc) = 2100 ar on Smough. Thats pretty insane.

Do or Die!
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
Got the Avelyn on first attempt just now. For anyone having trouble theres two key things. Firstly, become invisible so you dont aggro the archers who are covering the box, secondly, and this is crucial, once youve turned the handle and ran to the bottom of the stairs, you need to pause for a moment before you drop, pause timing is tricky, talkin bout maybe 1/2 a second but it works.
I remember the first darkwraith I encountered.
He invaded right when I was about to light the first bonfire in blightown, I couldn't light it, and he killed me. First and only real rage moment against darkwraiths.
That sounds like fun Walker! I have my first INT character on the way up to 45 int. Looking forward to trying magic out.
heh, I think the Darkmoon covenant have made me a number one priority at the moment, cant set foot in undead burg in human form without some fool blue coming to try and take me down, not one has done it yet. I always keep taurus alive now. Some advice on farming for a magic build. I found that blight town was the most profitable area early on, some high souls to be had for upping int stats plus the leeches near the walkway to the hollow are the best bet for green titanite for magic upgrade path, plus you might wanna spend some time on the crystal gollems in darkroot for blue chunks to get you started on enchanted.
I've heard a fair bit about the game, read the OP and a couple of pages (not much though, I hope you'll forgive me). I'm given the impression that this game actively hates the player, is this true? Is it fairly easy to play (if you don't consider, y'know, encounter difficulty)?
I've been thinking of getting this but I'm not too sure yet.

The game has a steep entry barrier. Your first few days will be an uphill struggle, but after that it's all good. It's only easy to play once you have some experience/know what's going on, until then you'll be getting eaten. A lot!

I cannot recommend this game enough.
It's also the sort of game that's very obtuse and expects you to figure stuff out on your own. If you're not using guides and stuff, this can take several playthrough.
I reccomend using guides just to figure out what things do. Not necessarily for bosses or anything like that.
The only thing I would recommend a walktrough for is the upgrade system. And the knowledge that you should not put a single point in to resistence when leveling up. I've seen people that played up to later bosses wihtout realising you need embers to continue upgrading and so on. That can make players give up.
First few days are horrible deaths, but take time to understand how combat works, the different moves that different weapons can make etc.
It is a really good game, and if you spoil it with too much walktroughs the first time around, you might regret it big time.

The game is great, but difficult. It's still pretty fair about its difficulty, so no bullshit and you'll see yourself improve at a rapid pace. It's also quite rewarding.
Your experience with PVP can vary. My opinion of it was pretty much permanently poisoned during my noob period, and some people love it, so... It can be fun later on at least. Also, the online portion of the game doesn't really work all that well.
Oh, and I found that if I was stuck, checking a wiki or something did make the game a lot less frustrating. It's great to go around and explore and discover things for yourself, but some stuff is just nearly impossible to find barring an accidental discovery or using a wiki.
If say avoid wikis for your first playthrough, but there are a few mechanics I'd look up because they're both tremendously important and almost totally unexplained in game, notably the Poise stat (which prevent you form being staggered when hit) and the stability stat on shields (which controls how much of a blocked attack's damage you take to your stamina bar).
I am in no mood to fight Bed Of Stupid Boss Fights right now, but am thinking of taking a break from PvP to grabbing the Maggot from the shortcut and doing Tomb of the Giants in order to get Patches as a Merchant (I want Mask of the Child).
My question is: Does the shortcut stay open if I leave the Chaos Servant Covenant?
Now just seems a good time, all my PvP has netted me 70 soft humanity. Might as well use it for something! I'm also gonna kindle up every bonfire because why the hell not.
So I was watching some guy do a bit if LP of Demon's Souls, and saw a few things I'd like brought back into Dark Souls 2.
1) Half health when not human. Personally I like the idea of greater cost/benefit risks between being human or not. In Dark Souls its an incredibly easy choice to just never be human unless you want to grab help for a boss. Thus I like the idea of making such a decision a little bit harder
2) In Demon Souls, player ghosts (both bloodstain and the random varieties) are FAR not visible. I like it better, they are almost too faint in Dark Spuls
3) the guy hasn't gotten far enough where tendency is a thing yet, so I don't know if it actually works out to be cool or not but it seems like a nifty idea
I'm not a fan of the half health thing. It means I'll have to disconnect myself from the internet if I want to avoid PVP.
Then that's what you do. Playing in offline mode is a valid option and is perfectly fine, but I feel that the PvP is a core mechanic of the game as is risk/reward decisions. As such other mechanics should reflect that.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to play offline, people can play however they want, but the game should not necessarily be tailored to those people... so long as an option exists for them to still play. Now the downside is you lose jolly coop but that's the breaks.

This sort of disagreement is what the covenant system should be fixing. If each one came with an advantage and a disadvantage (in such a way that affected gameplay, e.g. whether or not you can be invaded) then they could be used to tune the game to appeal to a diverse audience.

To be honest, a monkey with bat wings could appear in my room and poop on my head everytime I touch a bonfire...
...wouldn't matter, I'd still play the fuck out of this game
Thanks for the advice guys, I might very well get this on Steam when I next get paid.
Have a look at dlcompare.com, steam games are often a bit more expensive than necessary when it comes to non-exclusives. I bought Dark Souls for $15 a few days back from a German company and just plugged the code into steam.

My bit of advice would be dont get too stressed about other players coming into your world and killing you. It pisses most players off to begin with, apart from Morninglord who seems to feed off pain and torment. Its another aspect of the punishing nature of the game, you will learn how to counter it in due course.
I think this guy has done a very good spoiler-free simple guide for new players on the more technical aspects thats worth a look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSVW6RSgFUI

It was. It was the bon fire right after you first encounter the toxic blow dart guys. Not Man Eater Milred down below.
