I'm really anxious to see if P5 will be building on what Arena set up or be it's own semi self contained thing with a totally fresh cast.
I'm pretty torn on what I want it to be. Something new would be cool but at the same time I am really, REALLY invested in the current 3/4 continuity and I really wanna see where it goes next.
God willing it'll be a new cast. I don't trust the writers enough to bring back the P3/4 cast much, I just know it'll end up some kind of terrible fanfiction.
it will be a hiimdaisy fail... that is all...
The P3 heroes were great in Arena, and it totally redeemed Aigis for me. The P4 heroes were a disaster, save for Yu. Yukiko and Yosuke regressed, Kanji was in full-blown hiimdaisy mode, and Chie's story was outright cruel to her. Naoto was badass but kinda carried everyone.
And this is precisely why I have no faith in a Persona 5 that features an excess of returning characters. Ideally I want no one returning. Except Igor.
Igor is probably the only character that won't return, given that his Japanese VA died.
Why the hell does Labrys sound like Harley Quinn? That was a bizarre choice of accents, IMO.
Bigger P4A spoilers
Her personality was developed using a terminally ill human that came from Kansai, a region of Japan that is known for having a very distinctive accent. In the localization process, "distinct accent" turned into Jersey accent.

When I get a card shuffle is it always the best idea to go for the sweep even if it means getting some crappy cards? What exactly does the sweep do?
Not necessarily. Sweep bonus means you are guaranteed to get a shuffle on your next battle, and that you get to pick 2 extra cards in the next shuffle. It's usually a good idea to go for it, but sometimes it is better to just take a couple good cards instead. Like, I'd never take a half-exp or half-yen card to sweep the shuffle if I had just killed 4 treasure hands.

I'm exited for Elizabeth. The dialog, spoken or not, made it as if Yu could sense how out of touch she was with humanity and he was terrified of her for it. And I found Marie to be a horrible version of Elizabeth, with a pinch of Mary Sue. I kept picturing a conversation from Yugioh Abridged.
Yosuke: Who is this pretty lady?
Yu: Marie Sue.
Chie/Yukiko: And who is this, Marie Sue?
Yu: I don't know, but apparently she's my best friend.
Elizabeth is gonna take The Wild Card, and can learn to live and love like humans do (legitimately, like the direction Aigis is heading now.)
Or perhaps she'll hit the clubs and "Social Link" everything that moves.
Oh, and I'm deeply worried that in the P3 film, Minato/Gettarou is going to be an emotionally stunted Marty Stukami like in the P4 anime, staring into space while Aigis and Yukari fight over him.
I don't think any more needs to be said about the characters in P3 or P4, and I will be super disappointed if a new Persona game brings any of those characters back. I liked P3 and P4 a lot, but those stories are completed for me. I'm ready for something new.

Do we have any indication that the Devs consider this important enough to remove a character? Or are we just speculating wildly?

It's a Japanese tradition. Actor dies, character dies. See Heihachi made young in Tekken, Hyo's removal from Rival Schools, etc.
It wouldn't be the worst thing ever because we'd still be getting a new Persona game and I have no doubts that Atlus could still pull off another great game with the same cast, but I'd prefer a fresh start.
I don't want the entire cast brought back but it'd be neat if a couple characters from past games showed up (ala Nate & Ellen in P2:EP or Yukino P2:IS).
Wow so I'm the only one who's actually excited for more of the P3 and 4 cast?
That makes me sad.
We all were after PFA. I mean, more of the good members of the P3 cast is always a good thing.
If they demonstrate honest-to-god growth and character development, I'm all for it. The P4 heroes in Arena was pure pussyfooting around changing or growing the heroes in any meaningful way. The only way I could see them coming back is the P4 heroes following the P3 heroes into a college or professional setting. If that can't happen then it's time to say goodbye to them. I could go either way at this point.
Ah, my brother got back to me on Golden:
Brother: So, Yukiko died in the TV. I got so carried away with joining every club and job that I tried to save her at the last minute.
Me: No, no, no, you're doing it right. Just save her first, then get back to socializing. Chie and Yosuke tell you to take your time, but fuck em.
I don't really see what's so bad about Arena not giving them much in the way of development.
Arena was just a "hey here's this crazy thing that happens during a vacation" story to justify the fighting game premise. And the writing was quality for what it was. The P4 cast was super entertaining and didn't need to grow for that story to work.
An actual RPG that takes place over more than the span of a couple of days and has a more serious and focused plot should be more worried about character development but man I feel like you are kind of expecting too much from Arena.
Word. Junpei is the best character, even if he is not very good in battle. I just played P4A for the first time this week and wished I could play as him.
Speaking of P4A, it's pretty awesome. I can never do anything tougher than Ryu in 2D fighters (thankfully a Ryu character is like a mandatory addition or something), but I was having a lot of fun playing P4A with my brother. It was fairly easy to do cool looking moves, but it didn't feel like it detracted from the game. It struck a good balance for me. Teddie and Naoto are both really fun to play as.
I want a follow-up on the P3/P4 cast because (P4A true end spoilers)
They pretty clearly left it on a cliffhanger that has SEES and the Investigation Team against Nyarlathotep. I mean, there's nobody else that really could have been, right?
Junpei did get some love.
...then you all saw what happened.
Jeez, I'm so glad I finished my drink before reading that, because I totally would've needed a new monitor.
Speaking of which, something that I was thinking about was the whole Rescue system had you basically getting encouragement from alternate realities. I wonder if it's a property of the TV world that allows that...
... and I'm trying use it to come up with a justification to get the P3P FeMC into P4A. (Maybe as DLC? Would totally buy.)
Also SUCK IT DECEMBER BOSS! SUCK IT DRY! Finally ground enough levels to take the sumbitch out. (Ended the fight at like level 87 or 88.) Running Yoskuke through some catch-up grinding actually proved extremely useful for it, too.

Persona 5 should take place in a World of Nanako where Nanako is the main character and clones of Nanako make up all the NPCs, enemies, bosses, social links, towns, dungeons, landscapes, skills, spells, personae, and dialogue.
Well, I want to get back to playing some console games, and going through my RPG backlog.
I think I might very well re-startup my Nocturne save tomorrow.
Where did you leave off? Because if you boot it up and you're in a subway tunnel you might be tempted to just shut it right back off. That's a natural response, so if that's what happens don't feel bad.
Popping it in to find out. I honestly don't remember other than I had recently beating a huuuuge tower dungeon and that I had another former friend turn to be a dick or something like that. It was like... over a year ago since I last played this.
Checks... I am currently in Asakusa. The final location my my warp besides the Labyrinth of Amala is Mifunashiro. I think I remember going to some town that had three new Magatama to buy that were all absurdly expensive, but I can't remember what the name was or if it's even on the warp list currently. I'll have to probably look at a guide to find out where I'm at. And I'll probably have to grind a lot of cash.
Current stats? Demi-Fiend is lvl57 with a skill set of War Cry / Focus / Mind's Eye / Void Mind / Void Nerve / Chaos Blade / Void Curse / Glacial Blast. Pre-equipment stats of 30 Str, 15 Vit, and 22 Agi, and Mag/Luk at base.
I have all but 7 of the Magatama.
Current battle party is (rotating 4 into 3 slots)...
Diasoujou (lvl44). Meditation / Mahamon / Dekaja / Focus / Taunt / Helfire / Prayer / Preach (was obviously my main healer)
Quetzalcoatl (lvl56). Stone Bite / Gonnection / Glacial Blast / Taunt / Fog Breath / Might / Focus / Void Mind (still learning abilities)
Hell Biker (lvl45). Hell Spin / Hell Burner / Might / Dark Might / Life Aid / Hell Exaust / Attack All / ---
Baihu (lvl55). Stone Bite / Void Mind / Sukukaja / Tarukaja / Void Fire / Might / Focus / Bufudyne
And I also have a Mizuchi and Long that are fusion fodder that have most of my needed buff/debuff/status abilities on them.
I seem to remember Stone Bite being invaluable for some of the Fiend fights with minions. So many wasted boss turns.

Looking at a guide, would you believe that if Mifunashiro really is the last area you did then the next dungeon is a subway tunnel? The good news is that after that you do the totally rocking Diet Building, which is everyone's favorite dungeon. You're pretty close to the end as well, and you're really close to the point where if you want to get the True Demon ending you need to meet the requirements. At the very least you need to beat all the bosses. I completed them all by the Diet Building. If you've done everything right to this point when you start to head to the station you're going to get pulled in by the Trumpeter, or you may have already beaten him. If he doesn't show up you're missing a fiend.
