Honestly, I get way people like SMT. It an old school callback that is made to appeal to old school fans.
And that's cool, but also the reason I've never been able to get into them.
Ding ding ding, this is me as well.
I'm not going to complain about SMTIV because I'm not going to play it because I know I won't like it. But I'll still stick around to talk about P4G and whatever we hear about P5.
So the game makes a "THUD" sound when you go to it's icon in the 3DS Menu.
... this things going to go absolutely apeshit 1 in every 65,000 tries, isn't it?
Maybe if you put in a proper key sequence during that moment, you'll additionally be treated to a hidden message from one of Atlus Japan's employees bitching about his co-workers again.
so on my drive home with a huge 3ds box i decided that I'd write a post about the soundtrack being underwhelming but then it would probably take me longer to write than it took to listen to.
I do like what's there... but the only reason that the whole 8 tracks for 20 years of games even breaks the 20 minute mark is because the last track is 9:30.
now to get to the game. oh look pretty book I'll just read this for hours
1) Ridiculously hard. Being level 6 and having level 3 enemies able to 2-shot me without hitting my weakness is kind of nuts.
2) Complete lack of a defense stat (whether built as an actual character stat or via gear) is just normal ridiculous.
3) Strength seems to be completely useless, as it did not seem to increase normal damage, skill damage, or any kind of defense. I wish I had those 5 points I put into it back, but I really don't want to restart.
4) Everything else is ridiculously awesome.
There is an update to the game, and currently it's only available from the eShop. Go to "Search," then set the filter to "Publisher - Atlus", and it'll be there for $0.00.
I'm not exactly sure what's in it, but if you're getting any issues, download that. And then make sure to download the free DLC.

How's the pre-order armor(s) you could get from pre-ordering SMT4 from different retailers?
The gamestop one makes you strong to all magic, but weak to all physical and gun. Cant remember if it nulls hama and mudo, but it might make you weak to those.

The eShop info for the update said it was an update for it's Streetpass feature.
Also the free DLC you'll have to get through the game menu under Add-on content, not through the eShop.
edit: holy crap the beginning was so much of an homage to SMT I! This is amazing.
Just opened the box and all I gotta say is "wow"; this limited edition set comes with so much stuff. An art-book and a mini strategy guide rolled in one? A soundtrack CD? Man, this is gonna be a great evening.
As far as Persona vs SMT goes, I just consider it good-natured bickering, a la the Final Fantasy thread, or the scene in Thank You For Smoking where coworkers greet each other with (paraphrasing here) "I killed your dog and fucked your mother."
EDIT- Looked it up, it's, uh, worse than that, actually.

Eff that. Sounds suicide for 90% of random battles.
Still finishing up the prologue, and agreed, I love the SMT1/2 vibe everything has so far. It's no Nocturne successor yet, but not bad Atlus, not bad at all.
Bursar: apologies if this seems like a loaded question, but ever considered approaching Atlus JP about an SMT Origins 3DS release to give the westerners a shot at SMT1&2? (and maybe If?)
Hell, any kind of US release at all really. Or do they seem too dated to be worth releasing here?
lol, I love how the game opens up and after you choose your name...
The game kind of gives you the illusion that you'd be able to choose the chaos/law hero's names when they go "You remember me, right?" ... Kinda like how they did it in the first SMT game, by showing different backgrounds representing both characters... hell the scene even ended with a mysterious girl, too! Talk about a blast of nostalgia.

I know we ask, but I don't know what the answers are.
Edit: I repeat the above for your question below.

Is it viable to translate the iOS releases? I don't have an iOS device(and don't really want one), but hey, it's something.
I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

So I had a little bit of time to put into SMT IV after picking it up early this morning. Still very unforgiving, but so far I'm digging it. Just past the first training missions and starting the challenge quest stuff.
Law heros are generally wishy-washy guys until something tragic happens and they become total ass-hats. Not doubting it'll be the same for Jonathan too, but we'll see.
I kinda don't like how your appearance is altered based on what armor you have equipped. Or at least, I'd rather not have to wear helmets that obscure the face/hair... can't be helped, I guess.
no idea what to do with stats... so nothing new to see here
Two ways I've heard to build are as a magic user that goes pretty much MAG with some AGI, or as a gun user that goes for DEX/LCK with some AGI. The magic user will be more versatile, but the gun build will probably have better raw damage output. It sounds like STR builds aren't very good in this game.
If anyone doesn't plan to use their Club Nintendo registration code, can you PM it to me? I bought a copy of the Limited Edition on eBay but, since it was the last few seconds of the auction, I missed the fact that there was no registration code with the copy I'm getting, and I don't want to miss out on the promo.
Thanks. Can't wait for the game to arrive on my end, though if it arrives before Saturday I'll be out of town.

(I gotta wait until Europe gets the game.)
Walter and I are going to get married and make chaos world babies.
That's more like it!
Are there difficulty settings?
Man I'm so excited to start playing SMTIV soon.

I think the game gives you the ability to change the difficulty if you die a second time.

is Dionysius in SMT IV?

Good on you for realizing you can't shoplift it with the security device attached.
