If anyone has a US copy of the game but doesn't plan to use their Club Nintendo registration code, can you PM it to me? I bought a copy of the Limited Edition on eBay but, since it was the last few seconds of the auction, I missed the fact that there was no registration code with the copy I'm getting.
Thanks. Can't wait for the game to arrive on my end, though if it arrives before Saturday I'll be out of town.
What? Did the seller take the code out so he could resell it?

They probably only cared about the code and not the game. Pretty dumb if you ask me.

Wouldn't surprise me, due to Nintendo's Fire Emblem promo.

If they wanted to make Styx creepy as hell, they succeeded.
no idea what to do with stats... so nothing new to see here
Two ways I've heard to build are as a magic user that goes pretty much MAG with some AGI, or as a gun user that goes for DEX/LCK with some AGI. The magic user will be more versatile, but the gun build will probably have better raw damage output. It sounds like STR builds aren't very good in this game.

But I like Str builds.
Demifiend SMASH!
I was hoping Samurai would too.
As I understand it, the issue is that STR affects basically nothing but your swing damage (that is, phys skills don't use STR), and guns will outpace it pretty heavily. I like being punchy too.

I pray we get a console version of this someday. It looks ideal for one. I'd love a larger screen for this type of dungeon movement.
So far, this is the hardest SMT game I've ever played. At least as Normal goes. Nocturne starts slow. It's like they figured with 4, 'they have Charon and save anywhere. Give 'em hell.'
Looks like the Amazon Prime coat is strong against ice and weak against gun. It's not especially strong but it doesn't have the fire weakness of the starting armor, which means it's a cost effective way to avoid the fire breath on the Orthrus for that first challenge quest.
Please tell me there's an easy difficulty because all this talk of how hard it is is making me feel buyer's remorse without even trying it yet.
There's not. To be honest, its not even that hard. Its just stupid. There's no "defense" stat or score in the game. Everything is pure HP sponge, with the only things contributing to HP being Gear and Levels. Thus, if an enemy spell does 40 damage at 1st level, its also going to do 40 damage at 7th level, the difference being that at 1st level that will one shot you, while at 7th level it'll take two hits of said spell to kill you.
At least, that's been my experience over the first seven levels of the game. To be honest, I can already tell that it won't be an issue later on in the game. On top of HP, gear changes your resistances and weaknesses, so eventually you'll have an inventory of gear that will let you Resist/Null/Absorb/ pretty much everything. Add to that skills to cover the gear's weaknesses and protection spells like Rakukaja and by mid-game you'll probably be able to wander through dungeons barely taking any damage at all.
Its just early in the game you don't have any of that, so you're kind of SOL and have to hope the Random Number Generator doesn't target one party member 3 times in a row.
From what I've heard, the paid DLC is also super easy mode, letting you level up to 99 in about an hour if you so choose.
So far though the game isn't so much hard as it is stupidly bullshitty. I walk through a door only to get instantly accosted by an enemy that I can't react to, he moves first and does so much damage I die instantly. The saving grace is the death screen that lets you pop right back up, though for a fee. If this was old school "reload your save game", I'd probably be pissed. And I don't care what the series is or if this is the norm. Bullshit is bullshit is bullshit.
That said, it's still terribly fun and I'm slowly getting the hang of things.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
No, no it's not. If it was the Dark Souls of Persona games, it would be your own lack of skill that constantly got you killed. Not the random number generator.
I will admit, however, that DLC level upping is very tempting. I'm level 7 right now and the enemies in the next area I need to go into are level 10. I dread spending the hour or two to grind the extra 3 to 5 levels I need to survive the attacks. $2.50 may be worth it.
You can also save at any time & the main character dying doesn't result in Game Over so all things considered, it looks like it'll be relatively tame by SMT standards.
The initial bit is rough though. Unlike Nocturne, they don't give you a helpful healer automatically. My first few attempts at negotiating with Pixie in SMT4 didn't go so well...

Man you're lucky you aren't playing the classic SMT games. They'd wreck you if you don't figure out what you're doing, and fast. I'll admit most of my demons are dead now but that's because I took too much in stride and kept forgetting to counter an ambush. I'm just waiting for the chance to revive/fuse my demons
Got a shipment notification from Amazon Prime that my order will be arriving on Thursday. I'm curious why this game didn't have release day shipping, but oh well. I can wait a couple extra days to get my demon morphing on.
So I got an e-mail stating "Since you already own Fire Emblem Awakening, we think you’ll love Shin Megami Tensei®IV. That’s why we’re offering a $30 credit for the Nintendo eShop when you register the game at Club Nintendo.* "
I never registered my copy of Fire Emblem...why do they think I own it?

Could be one of two things:
Spotpass checking in with the mothership (less likely)

I've got some pet theories on where the plot may go, based on my very limited knowledge of the game (mostly from trailers and the back of the box). But yes, I'm assuming the use of "Prentice" and not "Apprentice" is intentional, and you're supposed to note the similarity.

Excepting a little time dicking aorund in Person IV a few years ago, this is my first SMT
Now, after getting familiar with the old Adventure Game style of world interaction and so forth, and the deeply (weirdly) nostalgic cutscene direction, and coming to terms with how weird everything is, I have one question:

It's a SMT game. If you weren't expecting soul crushing difficulty... well.
I hear there are DLCs that make the game easier. And I heard that for a SMT game it's not really THAT difficult. No clue if that's true, however.
