I'm thinking about doing a couple of different wacky things out in the hallways of PAX this year, if I can get the nerve up to do it. Both of them involve music and needing a way to play music that others can hear and hear well.

Now, I have a cheap little MP3 player which can carry my tunage but I need some way to project it outward. Does anyone know of some decent, small, fairly inexpensive speakers that plug into a standard little headphone jack and would be easy to find a way to attach to my person so the music goes with me as I move about?

On last years super trip, there was talk of yakity sax being played (the benny hill theme) to an undisclosed movie. We so need to do that.

disturbing the peace is always a great idea. especially in an area with 20 thousand people shuffling around. not sure about a powerful, portable speaker system, though. would you be willing to have an extension cord attached to yourself? or possibly a car battery?

For 2 years now I've wanted to yell out tetsuo at midnight again like I did the first year. But I either haven't had the nerve or was drunk in bed.

But regardless performance art is the lowest of art forms.

In a weird sort of way, I want to get a huge sound system and play the theme to Mortal Kombat over and over just to see how the crowd reacts to it. Maybe someone will start fighting.

Man, the MK theme (from the movie, the techno bit with the 'Test your might!' bit in it) should be what they open Beat The Pros with.

How about one of those backpacks with speakers built in? You'd need a little portable, battery powered amp in there too if you wanted to get some real volume, but you could run while blasting music if you really wanted to.

We should all bring Cardboard tubes to PAX and break out into impromptu duels across the city wherever attendees will congregate.

DUDE!!! That sounds like somthing I could get into. Side note: I'm trying to decide if I want to do the whole WoW quest giver thing again. We still have a ton of the marbles... And I wonder if Guild Wars is going to be back again or not.

It doesn't have to be terribly loud or powerful, just something so that people around me can hear it.

Right, but those backpack speakers can't get enough power from a portable cd or mp3 player that is meant to power headphones. I figure a small battery powered amp will give you enough juice to be heard nearby. Back in 05 somebody in line for the Saturday concert had one, and we could hear it, but not as well as he would have liked to.

Alright, Im going to bring this subject up again in july. That way more people will read this forum and have enough time to find some tubes sturdy enough forat least a few duels.

The Osiris G-bag (assumably the one you're talking about) has an amplifier inside the bottom of the bag. Takes 12 AA batteries, but it's pretty awesome. I'm going to look at repairing mine, it may or may not make an appearance.

it'll be a funny sight in downtown seattle p.d.'s jail when you look in and see a bunch of nerds, then you look in the confiscation bin where they put weapons and drugs and it's just overflowing with cardboard tubes!
