@Ruiner999 wanted to teach me a lesson about the proper care and handling of our young, and gifted me Offspring Fling! I look forward to playing this educational title.
FTL is a game that dangles the idea of a game infront of you, while mercilessly going FUCK YOU, PLAYER pewpewwooshkaboom goodbye ship.
Is this the sort of game where you're better off going in blind, mess up, and learn new things with each experience? Or should I start on an Easy setting or consult a few hint guides to avoid a pre-emptive level of frustration that puts me off the game?
Based on what I've read, it sounds like it's the former. There is some intrigue in venturing into the unknown (I know it gets tossed around a lot, but I'm thinking Dark Souls).
After seeing better deals have happened I think I'm going to take a wait and see on Sleeping Dogs. I'd rather get more bang for my buck with my Christmas steam bucks. Why are people buying Fairy Bloom Freesia? And to re-ask are there any good brawlers on Steam?
I grabbed Kung Fu Strike for a brawler. It's like $2.50. It's not too bad.

Go in blind then read up on what you have to do to unlock all the other ships when you get sick of the other ones exploding.
So earlier this morning, we were all talking in chat and I mentioned that I was tired because over the last few nights this guy (the one on the right)
has decided that he no longer wanted to sleep in four hour blocks during the night, but instead decided that he's going to wake up every hour, on the hour, and only drink an ounce of milk at the hour thus ensuring that he wakes up hungry in another hour. (I say this with love).
So a little bit ago @Lord_Snot aka Gonzo Snot sends me this message:
Docarch,
Hey man, sorry to hear that minidocarch is keeping you awake at night, so have this game which (as I understand) manages to tell a good story in a short time
,
attached to Thirty Flights of Loving. Thanks Snot!
Unfortunately, @Drake also wanted to be classy at the same time and also sent me Thirty Flights of Loving to enjoy. My apologies Drake, but I must decline your wonderful gift as Snot beat you to the punch by about fifteen minutes.
The question is do I buy FTL or FTL plus the soundtrack?
Get the soundtrack. One of the combat tracks is clearly a riff on the TAIKO DRUMS EVERYWHERE battle themes from Battlestar Galactica. It's great.
Edit: Also, he's not in this thread (if he is it would be kind of creepy), but I gifted my friend-in-real-life Superbrothers when I was buying a gift copy for another friend, and he gifted me back the new Penny Arcade game. So that was cool!
I get to work this morning, and I'm sippin' at a coffee-machine mocha with a couple marshmallows melting in the top, goin' through e-mails and browsing the forums, when I notice this little red envelope icon up top. Curiously, I click it, and within I find a cryptic message from @Jclast about saving Dubai with a sequence of letters and numbers attached.
I accept this code with humility, but had to wait all day just to get home and find out what it is.
Top Engineers were able to devise that it unlocks Spec Ops: The Line directly into my steam account. What a classy fellow!
So I just traded a bunch of old TF2 garbage hats I had lying around for keys which I then sold on the community marketplace and used that wallet money to buy The Walking Dead.
I think it's pretty goddamn cool that I turned hats that I earned while enjoying TF2 into a new game.

I just hope one of those items wasn't Bill's hat.
No matter what they offer or how much, I will never give up Bill's hat.

@Banzai5150 decided I needed to be a Fairy Princess and gifted me Fairy Bloom Freesia. Thank you, maybe a beat-em-up will improve my mood (along with the chocolate my husband just brought home.)

No sweat, I'm sure I can find a good home for this swell game.
Away from my computer for 6 days, 2500 new posts. Yeah, no, I'm sure it's full of amazing cheer and generosity though. I tried to keep up with Steam sales on my phone, but I'm sure I missed a few. Haven't really been interested in much this sale though. Not sure if it's because I feel absolutely crushed under my gamebank or because I'm so used to cheap games they all still seem expensive even if they're $6...
The devs decided "Shit, let's make sure the player isn't having fun!" and made the end of the game a chore that sucks.
I got stuck on that "you're dead meat" guy for a full half hour. Some of the levels are way more frustrating than others though; trial and error is not fun here, that disco level? They randomly assign a weapon to the guy in the one single corridor you're forced to walk down. If he has melee, great, you can proceed to the next room. If not, fuck you try again.
ALSO!
The Basement Bundle is all one game on Steam! Weird.
Also Meat Boy lacks controller support, which reduces me from Golden God status down to like, Bronze Nub status. It's so much harder. Don't think I'll be 100% this.

Turf? Turf's not that bad when you know what to do though it is different and a pain in the ass until then.
Turf Spoilers
grab the cup backtrack the cats while just swinging away, as soon as the next part starts be some distance from the sword distance, whip cup at one eye, ground execute, hide behind pillar until guy finishes shooting then if you're fast enough you can get the two knifes into him if not get one and hide again.
I posted in the TWD thread but I'll ask here too since we sometimes discuss steam games and there are a lot of eyes here.
I am playing through EP1 for Walking Dead and I'm noticing a slight issue with some momentary hitching during camera transitions in cutscenes. It's like the game doesn't quite have the next cut loaded up yet and takes an extra fraction of a second to catch up while the audio plays. It was really distracting during the opening scene with Walkers.
Is anyone familiar with this issue or know a way to correct it?

It's Trauma. You know, when the game decides to just stop being Hotline Miami and something completely shitty instead.

@DoctorArch proved themselves to be entirely too classy by gifting me with grimrock for the simple reason "No one else on my friends list didnt have it already"

It's standard squad shooter gameplay, right? Breaching doors, you go here, you go there, tango down, etc?

Seriously, your baby is this close to riding your cat around the house like He-Man.
I can see how it can be confusing.
The child is 12 pounds.
The cat is 20 and honest-to-God huge and not fat.
But I like the He-Man idea.

yeah its weird
I don't get why they decided to randomly lock away most of the mechanics and force you to just stick with one weapon and its so dumb
