i think my favorite thing about this movie is either
combination of the theme from the original Django and franco nero showing up
tarantino getting exploded
or how quickly they wrapped up the brittle brothers plot, which the trailers made out to be the majority of the plot
That was a kind of a nice surprise BUT on the other hand I would have also been incredibly happy just watching Django and King go around being badass bounty hunters a whole bunch

oh absolutely
you should read the script, there's a lot of little bits that got cut that, while they definitely would've slowed the movie down and needed to go, they were just fucking phenomenal
the training montage was longer
there's a bunch of speeches by walz that go longer/exist, period
my favorite sequence that got cut (but it doesn't really add much i just like how it was written)
a sequence about brunnhilde after she and django were sold and separated and how she came into the possession of candie

Trailers were garbage. I got some Russell Crowe/Marky Mark thriller, one with Noomi Rapace and Colin Farrell as a hitman (trailer had a nice Pink Floyd cover though), and the third was so forgettable I literally can't remember anything about it.

I got some trailer about The Rock and Mark Wahlberg as Swole kidnappers.
First off, I'm not a big musical guy and even with that caveat Les Mis has never been one of my favorites, though it's got a few numbers that I like so I went into this with an open mind
So, I hate hate hate that sung-through style, and I know it's an integral part of this but I just can't stand it
I basically didn't like Hugh Jackman in this at all, which is the first time I've ever said such a thing. He was tied for my least-liked part of this movie. His voice has this weird strained quality the whole time and when he hit the higher registers it was just... it wasn't great. Not a great casting choice.
Russell Crowe. He doesn't have a bad voice! He just doesn't have a great voice for Javert. He carried himself well and he acted well in between the singing, but for fuck's sake I've rarely seen a man look more uncomfortable than when he had to sing and do other stuff at the same time. And again, those big notes... I cringed every time.
Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen as the Thenardiers: singing aside, they were incredibly distracting. I felt like I'd stumbled into a Tim Burton movie. It felt like stunt casting, like haha! look who it is!
Also whoever Tom Hooper's DP is: that thing where you zoom in super close and put the singer's face on the right side of the screen and just leave it there was neat when you did it the first time. But then you did it with every solo after that. What were you doing. What.
Stuff I actually liked:
Having said that about Carter and Baron-Cohen, "Master of the House" was one of my favorite numbers in the film, along with I Dreamed A Dream, On My Own and Empty Chairs at Empty Tables. Eddie Redmayne was great! As was his buddy whose name I can't recall. And the girl who played Eponine was fantastic. I understand she played the part on stage as well.
The sets and scenery were beautiful when the camera wasn't jammed up somebody's nose.
Anne Hathaway, goddamn. That number was just incredible. Kudos for that.
Basically I started tuning out of this movie once Jackman started in on "Bring Him Home." I wanted to like it more but it just wasn't meeting me halfway on that.
This was actually my first real experience with Les Mis, though I'd heard a few of the songs elsewhere
"I Dreamed a Dream" because of that whole Susan Boyle thing a few years back
"Master of the House" is the song that gets stuck in George's head in Seinfeld
"On My Own" was in an early episode of Glee
That said though I really enjoyed it, I agree with GG about the Thenardiers being played up a bit too much for laughs but Sacha Baron Cohen can sing so whatever
It was weird though, they both showed up and my mind went to Sweeney Todd, and then it showed them using a meat grinder with a cat tail stuck in it, which, again, Sweeney Todd
So when is that Freddie Mercury biopic starring Baron Cohen supposed to happen?
This movie was pretty damn fantadtic. Leo and Waltz did my favourite performances with Jackson right behind them. Though everyone was great.
Only disappointment was with the theatre I went to see it at. Even though it was opening night the show I went to was in one of the crappy small theatres in the joint. I don't know why they didn't use one of the main bigger theatres for the movie. Though this isn't the first time I had problems with this particular theatre. :P

Also it was bothering me that I felt I had heard the melody of "Castle on a Cloud" before, and I just now realized this is where:
After inappropriate audience laughter when the guy
gets killed by the dogs
The line
"I'm sorry, he's not used to Americans"
My whole theater went silent.
All I could think was, "Nice burn tarentino. Nice burn."

Saw this movie today, absolutely loved it. The only thing I disliked was, of all things, the typography, and maybe the flashbacks could have done better. But whatever. The audience was great. Everyone was in a good mood, all jovial, loud in the best way possible. I love how often the word 'squibs' has come up in relation to the film.
Can we talk about Schultz? Lets talk about Schultz. He was completely wonderful, the audience loved him and he had a great many choice lines.
I was real upset he had to die He and Django had such a charming partnership and I wanted he and Django and Brunhilde to ride around and be happy. I want Schultz to be a real person and I want to be his friend. I think he played an interesting role in the film, someone for the audience to relate to, particularly white viewers (at least that was my impression). We all like to think we'd be good people if presented with despicable behavior, such as Candi and the various racists that peppered the film. 'Why I'd be upstanding and I wouldn't treat people so badly'. All fine sentiments. I felt like Schultz was a vehicle to embody and fulfill those sentiments, wish fulfillment you could say. It could have been pandering but Schultz was so charming, so utterly endearing despite/because of his quirks and flaws, it was never an issue.
Was Quentin shooting film or digital? I thought Hollywood was switching to digital but it really looked like film.
Anyone notice that Brunhilde's name was misspelled as 'Broomhilde' in the documents?
Did anyone notice that hilarious woman in the crutches and leg-brace? She was in the crowd that was running away from the saloon. Wtf? I loved it!

If he was in the first one I forgot
Listen I'm not good at this
his name is also on the poster in giant letters
and he is prominently credited in the opening credits
Kerry Washington is an attractive lady, I'm just going to throw that out there
tarantino getting exploded

What was the blue suit from?
Also, the N word was thrown around like the F word in Scarface.
I think for me one of the funniest bits was toward the end,
-Indiana Solo, runner of blades
and that was no exception

That whole scene was delightful. And Christoph Waltz is the best. If he doesn't get some sort of award for this I will be pissed.
