Now for a The Witcher: Enhanced Edition giveaway! If you're interested in entering just write me a PM telling me why you'd like the game and you're ready to go!

Still valid! I may be one of those crazy people who think that the original Witcher is way better than Witcher 2, but maybe there's someone out there who hasn't played it yet and wants to give it a try.
You're not alone. The Witcher does a lot of stuff better than The Witcher 2 and overall I enjoyed the first one more. It depends almost entirely on the sorts of things you like in your RPGs, though.

If you feel tempted by Far Cry 3 (or Far Cry 2) then, do not worry. These feelings are natural as they are both great games that you should own.

Damn dude. I won't be entering this one because it's a little out of my league spec-wise, but this is impressive. My understanding is that since this game was based on a popular IP and is also no longer available on Steam giftable copies are basically worth their weight in gold, so to run a Steamgifts giveaway for it is pretty awesome of you.

How is it as a game? I actually already own it (bought it on a sale before it was pulled) but haven't really played past maybe the first level.

Edit: Nevermind, apparently I played over 80 minutes of this game.....it couldn't have been that good, because I remember next to nothing about the experience.

Holy Shit thanks! You probably don't realize how much that is worth in trading, that can go for almost 2-3x what it cost at the time in the store. Props!

I'm not at want for games to play, so anything I'd trade it for would just add to that. Not to mention the the gifts from members of this community. It has more value to me going to a good home here.

And @Vicktor fired back with Atom Zombie Smasher! I imagine it involves accelerating the undead to near-relativistic speeds in a circular tunnel in order to unlock the secrets of the universe. Or maybe shooting and blowing them up, that's fun too. Thank you sir!

I had no idea what to think of the game based on the name, but it's a neat idea and far more fun than I expected. It's *just* shy of being top tier but is still pretty great. With the selectable mercenary option turned on it turns into a sort of rogue-like zombie infestation simulator. Spoiler alert: The Higgs boson is really the Zombie particle.

It could have been great. As it was, it was Gears without being able to take cover from the bullshit enemies. They nailed the atmosphere and the writing, but as a game it just wasn't fun.

If you're cheap/on a budget then you'll want Far Cry 2. If you're getting both you'll burn yourself out on the formula for a while either way, more than likely. Far Cry 2 does a lot of interesting things and is worth playing, but that has been discussed to death and I'm sure everyone is tired of it. If you don't think Far Cry 2 is "worth playing" after Far Cry 3, you're not looking hard enough/couldn't be more wrong. It provides an awesome experience and interesting/thought provoking stuff without battering you over the head with it like some other games that are praised to high heaven.

BFG gives you the luxury of having Doom 3 and its expansion that isn't compatible with any current mods but comes with it's very own flashlight mod, as well as completely unmoddable (as far as I understand) copies of the originals. Best to just get the classic doom pack and the D3+ Expansion pack and skip out on the BFG version.

I read some comments about D3 BFG in Helloween's LP Thread for it. From what I've read in there, it seems that BFG, while a bit prettier and having some additional content, is ultimately not as good as Doom 3. They pile in even more ammunition. The always on, permanent flashlight really diminishes the impact of the game's lighting. Not to mention in the original there's a sequence where it's lost, it makes for some great tension. Hell, I don't think they ever should have added the flashlight in the first place. I just think they couldn't resist having that little toy in the lighting tool box. They should have just stuck with Doom and Doom II. Pitch black areas usually had some night vision goggles around somewhere. But whatever.

The consensus I've seen around PA when I've looked is that BFG is ultimately a shallower experience than the original with a competent set of new levels from Nerve that successfully do some old school id design things. Some stuff is off about the classics that come bundled with it too, but I'm not sure what that is off the top of my head.

As much as I hate to say it, I think I'm skipping BFG. Sorry id, but this one just isn't for me. I still love you Doom 3. Just the way you were.

Ok, now I've seen all the endings in Spec Ops. And every damn one of them made me feel like a horrible person.

This is a terrible game; not in the sense that it, itself, is terrible, but that the things that happen within are terrible and you should feel bad. Which is brilliant, but terrible. Fucking hell.

Care to elaborate, then? What I meant is that Far Cry 3 is, in pretty much every way (other than maybe how the story ends. I don't know, I haven't finished it yet) a better game than Far Cry 2. Even then, I'd take Far Cry 3's wasted story potential over Far Cry 2's infinitely respawning enemy checkpoints, restrictive "open world" environment, and god damned Malaria.

Even then, I'd take Far Cry 3's wasted story potential over Far Cry 2's infinitely respawning enemy checkpoints, restrictive "open world" environment, and god damned Malaria.
The difference between the games seems to be that Far Cry 2 is an atmospheric, immersive experience in a shitty world full of shitty people where nothing ever goes well and every fight provides moments of pulse-pounding uncertainty, emergent discovery, and bitter depression, which all add up to make the best antithesis to the bullshit power fantasy that almost every video game ever represents. And I don't think FC2's open world was restrictive at all. You could go anywhere you want anytime you wanted.

Meanwhile, Far Cry 3 shoves its UI in your face at every turn, puts a bunch of boundaries around you ever time you're on a main mission so that if you explore you get a game over, adds layers of crafting and inventory management and item hunting and collection sidequests and shit onto the game until they've buried what actually matters (the shooting) under layers of obfuscation, it has a ridiculous and offensive story that can only be saved by the writer desperately claiming that no, they're actually parodying everything that the game pretty much explicably is, and it dumps the depressing and brown setting of Far Cry 2 for another fantasy fulfillment magical wonderful tropical island resort where everything is awesome and sicknasty and you can score sweet headshots.

It's interesting that you'd paint the removal of malaria as a good thing, when that mechanic was a perfect microcosm for everything Far Cry 2 does right and pretty much no other game does right. You get sick all the time, have to pop pills, and the only genuinely good thing you do in the entire game for another human being is done solely so that you can get another set of malaria pills to pop. It's the opposite of a power fantasy - you aren't in charge of the world, you aren't the savior of humanity, you aren't even a hero. You are sick and you only do something nice when you need to stave off the horrific sickness. It's a brilliant metaphor, a wonderful gameplay conceit (starting to hack and cough in the middle of a firefight is amazing and terrifying) and the sequel said "no thanks" in favor of making you a magical tribal tattoo badass bro.
