Razer Tiamat Headphones Help

Hi all,

Got a pair of Razer Tiamats for Christmas and was really excited to try them out. Plugged in the ridiculous number of connectors, changed my sound options to 7.1 and...it sounds awful. Tinny, hollow, a lot of sounds bizarrely quiet and others bizarrely loud. I'm sure there's some configuration I'm just missing but can't seem to figure it out. Anyone have experience with this?

The FAQ mentions some bass boost option in speaker configuration that doesn't seem to actually exist.

They seem fine-ish in 2.1 mode, just awful in 7.1 :?

Long shot but my dad bought a set of headphones for Christmas that sounded really terrible (similar to how you describe) until he plugged the 3.5mm jack in opposite to how he had it. It seems the cable was not bi-directional, because as soon as he switched it, they sounded great.
