I want to buy a laptop for a friend of mine in the UK (I am in Canada). I figured the best option would be to buy online from a UK store and have them ship it to my friend rather than me buy here and pay $Alberta for shipping.
What are the best and cheapest online stores to buy from?

You may run into problems with them refusing to ship to an address that isn't your billing address, for at least your first order with a particular site, but nonetheless, three sites I've used in the past.
Overclockers has caused my worst customer service experience (taking several months to respond to queries about a warranty return) but did eventually solve the problem, so I wouldn't entirely rule them out.

I've used Ebuyer, Dabs and Novatech they're pretty good, but I've never had cause to return/complain to them so I can't speak of their customer service.
You may follow Ginger Mijango advice and purchase from amazon.co.uk, but first you would need to contact your bank or credit card company to add your friend's address to your card to avoid rejection.
Hear my warnings, unbelievers. We have raised altars in this land so that we may sacrifice you to our gods. There is no hope in opposing the inevitable. Put down your arms, unbelievers, and bow before the forces of Chaos!

Of course there's also http://www.amazon.co.uk/ which often beats the pricing of others.
