I bought this and am having crippling indecision when it comes to figuring out a character name.
I think I spent 20 minutes staring and working at that screen, myself.
If it helps, the first and last names don't have to be unique. Just the nickname. In-game, player names are displayed as First "Nick" Last, so for example my character's name shows as Daisuke "Makidai" Maki.
Dulfy.net has a section on how to beat the Gatekeeper as an AR/blood healer. You might want to check it out.
Unfortunately for me, the nickname is the easy part. First and last names? I never asked for this.

Well you could do what some people did. Like: It's "Sparklekitty" Duh.
@amnesiasoft: Just FYI I will be on a little later tonight for dailies (and whatever else after). Going to be watching my younger niece's a cappella choir perform.
So it seems I had wrongly filed this game under "Good theme, bad gameplay" when I played in the beta. I picked this up because Steam Sale :rotate: and am enjoying myself much more than I had expected. Anyways I had a few questions for you good folk.
First of all, the no levels thing technically means you can have "infinite" AP/SP as long as new content keeps being released right? How feasible is it to be at "end-game" and to have usable skill set with more than 2 weapons? I'm using AR/Blood right now and was wondering if it would be possible to branch out to another weapon at some point.
Secondly: how active are PA cabals/guilds? I'm an Illuminati and was going to attempt to get an invite tonight hoping to have some people to go through the low-level dungeons once I get to them.
1. Not sure what you mean by "infinite AP/SP." We have two Ability Wheels (main and aux) and you can eventually fill them up completely, getting access to abilities for all nine main weapons and all five (as of now) aux weapons. Note that you can "store" a max of 175AP and 40SP (meaning once you hit these caps, any extra AP/SP awarded is wasted) but there's literally no reason to be at cap unless you've already completed your skills and wheels.
2. Not very. There's a few of us who are on semi-regularly. Best bet is to make sure you're logged in to the #PA chat channel (directions better explained in the OP, but you can just type /chat join PA Wang) and ask. That being said, there are a number of us on at any time and we're usually able to help out with stuff- just ask!

Well, new content doesn't need to be released since 99% of missions are repeatable for most of the experience you got the first time through. Many of us just kept re-running a lot of Transylvania missions for enough experience to fill out the entire wheel. It's completely practical to branch out into other weapons, in fact, you basically have to if you want to make the best builds you can. While active abilities require the weapon they're for to be equipped, passives do not. Elementalism isn't really hugely popular for DPS builds, but almost all of them will use Elemental Force from its ability tree. Twist the Knife is a blade passive, but it's still a part of the pistol/shotgun DPS build I've been using.
Just like zombo.com says, the only limit is yourself.
What I meant with "infinite AP/SP" was pretty much if there was any restriction to stop you from completing the entire wheel and becoming an MMO Swiss Army Knife (not that I am rushing to attain that, it sounds rather grindy). I guess I kind of figured the community isn't that active but I had hoped the sale would have brought in more new players.
I played for a good 5-6 hours tonight. I really enjoy how they got some adventure games in my MMO. The Kingsmouth setting is pretty fantastic, and I adore just how many quests there are to find all over the place.
Went with hammer/AR, because it seemed fun.
Only real complaint is that the framerate is a bit janky on my computer. Perhaps a problem with SLI...
I am a strong advocate against all things SLI or CrossFire.
Are you running in DirectX 11 mode? If so, switch to DirectX 9. Some people have no issues at all running DirectX 11 mode, others... well, let's just say it doesn't go well. My FPS drops to about 10 in combat if I'm in DirectX 11 mode, even on minimum settings. I'm running a GTX 480, so a bit dated, but not so old that I should have that kind of problem.

The DX9 version is less janky, but still has a bit of jank. I'll probably have to play around with it a bit -- it's all playable so I can get my investigations on until I decide I want to spend a couple hours tweaking settings. For the most part I'm seeing ~50fps but it dips pretty frequently into the 30fps range while turning or interacting with the UI (particularly opening up the skill wheel).
I'm going to echo Dehumanized here and say the investigations are one of the best parts of this game. I had a good laugh the first time I opened up the Kingsmouth map and saw the street names too.
I was confused by something though: Is there a difference between skill level and quality level? I can't check right now but I was pretty sure you could equip 1 QL for every SL in a particular equipment "tree". But I read some things online that seem to suggest that QL = SL - 1.
Also, I tried the chat channel yesterday but it seemed to be empty, some other time then. My character nickname is "Kenowick" by the way.
Those ravens made me jump when they started talking
Finished out the starter deck for my chosen weapons... I guess now I'll fill out the rest of the inner ring for assault rifles. Not sure where to go from there.
AR sets you up for leech healing (which is a sort of hybrid DPS/heal build). Hammer can be DPS but with the game's end-game giving melee DPS the finger, it's more useful for tanking. So, I guess it depends on what you want to end up as.
Mind you that's solely from the perspective of grouping. Solo, you can do whatever you want. Some attempts will be more successful than others.
I'll probably aim towards going tanky on hammer, damage-y on AR. I tossed one point in either role on each weapon just to get the initial effect, though, and I'm only maybe 8SP into weapons total... so I've got some flexibility to change my mind if I need to.
Yeah, and if you make a choice on the inner ring weapons that you want to change your mind about, it's not a big deal -- it only takes 38 AP and a few SP to switch to something else (with enough SL ranks to use any QL gear from Kingsmouth, at least). As I understand it, single quests in later zones will get you that much.
The only thing about spending SP that seems really important is to try to keep your weapons and talismans at even SL. A few other things that I heard (and may be false, anyone feel free to correct me):
- Try to not save up your SP too much as a higher overall SL makes mission difficulty go down and Very Hard missions give less exp
- Investing in only one line per weapon is the best way to go about it
- Higher SL on weapons means less glancing hits
As far as AP goes, it doesn't really matter on the inner circle as you have to complete it anyway to get access to the outer circle and only take a small amount of AP to fill if you want to switch weapons. Early on focusing more on one weapon may be more efficient until your AP gain speeds up though.

What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable? ~ Mario Novak
I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
There are a lot of people in Kingsmouth, the starting area on the Arcadia server, but I don't know how it is past that. As far as PA goes, well I haven't seen anyone yet but it seems we have a few regulars.
If the difficulty of a mission is much higher than your current questing level (say, trying to do Transylvania missions on a Kingsmouth character), you actually receive much less XP than if you did these quests when you actually get to them at an appropriate time. So quests that are marked Cataclysmic or Very Hard, if you even manage to complete them (and there are some out there), will net you less XP than if they were Normal.
And as far as AP, focus on two weapons. With the way the combat system works (that is, resource builders and resource consumers), sticking to one weapon will severely limit your options (you'll have one builder, maybe two or three consumers, but you can't use all of them in sequence). So take two weapons, choose a builder from either one (all builders build resources for both your equipped weapons except those that can heal- so watch out if you're using assault rifle, blood, or fist), a consumer from each weapon, and anything else that's interesting for the rest.

Hmmm, that is good then. I thought the game might have died down again because I went to the tree and I wasn't mercilessly spammed by assholes looking for groups.

i probably will be in the next couple weeks. i can probably have a suitable deck by then, to tank at least, might take a little longer to set up a proper DPS deck, passive wise at least.
I am sad I did not buy this game when it was on sale. Someone told me after the fact that I could fight Cthulhu-mons for loots or something. Is there a free trial by chance? I'd check, but I am at le work.

Dunno how traditional my build for it was, but, using Razor Wire on that stupid add made it a walk in the park in conjunction with the +Speed on Crit passive.

I haven't tried to log back in yet today, been busy. But I'll give that a shot next time I try, yeah.

Still doesn't mean you can find any tanks though.
And @zombieinc99: Then just be mindful of the AP/SP caps so you're not wasting them as you're playing.
