I've been watching a bunch of monster-y horror films to get myself pumped for Dead Space 3. So far I've gone through The Thing, Slither, and The Mist. I haven't watched The Mist in a while and the ending hit me like a sledge hammer. UGH
Besides Alien and Aliens, are there any other films you guys could recommend that are in a similar vein?
The ending to The Mist is MGS3 levels of depressing...
V/H/S is one of the best fucked up horror films I've seen in a while. I recommend checking it out. It does have monsters in it, but it might not be exactly what you're looking for. Still recommend it, though.
V/H/S is just an sad excuse to constantly show tits.
Every story did have boobs in it, didn't it?
Ah well, high boob count aside, it was awesome and you know it!
Edit: The Halloween haunted house story didn't have boobs, I think!
I know the exact opposite. They didn't just have boobs in them they were overstressed, like someone with a sign saying HERE'S THE TITS WAKE UP FRAT BOYS. No, the house story didn't have boobs but they also cut out the end of it.
BUT DEAD SPACE
One of my biggest hurdles to getting this game is the same one I have with Assassin;s Creed now; there's too much to the story in too many different places and I'm barely paying attention as it is.
Honestly gamers as of late have made a habit of being over entitled whiners. I swear to god.
No company would sell the ending to a game as DLC. It would be PR suicide.
Ubi did it. Remember that PoP reboot that was so good that two years later they went and released a game from the series it was supposed to replace? Yeah.
I mean, the DLC was named Epilogue.
Anyways, I wonder how much of the target audience for DS3 is made up of all of the people complaining on the internet, because i'm sure the game will still make some nice sales. People are even complaining about the ending a week before its been released (supposedly it's been leaked).
PoP '08 still had a proper ending without the DLC. I think I liked it better, actually. The Prince was just standing there holding Elika's body while the credits rolled, right?
In all fairness I never finished the game, I found it quite boring, though I found every PoP game I've played to be boring so maybe I'm not the target audience for the series.
I do know however that you don't get to beat the Big Bad without playing the DLC.

You beat the big bad, but then you re-release him to save the heroine.

That sounds it could work as an ending on its own, without the need to release a DLC called Epilogue.

EA does have a precident for ripping core content out of the origonal game to sell as dlc. Was one of the big problems with mass effect 3. Without From the Ashes dlc core plot points were not covered.
I am all for dlc as long as its not core game stuff pulled out as 0-day dlc... Thats just plain evil.

Epilogue was supposed to build into a sequel... but that wasn't to be.

You don't need to know the stuff in the comics or the books, its just accessory story to the journey of Isaac. If you just play DS and DS2 you'll get the meat of the story.
Kind of like reading LOTR without reading the sub addendum.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Also also, I missed the Security Suit in my first DS2 playthrough. Had to wait until chapter 8 to get a new RIG... That made the game so much harder.
How!? Security suit is the coolest, SWAT in space. Also, iirc, it had some bonus for the pulse rifle and that's the best weapon so there you go! :rotate:
Not that I remember... Movies and comics have presented and used "in-house" characters just for that specific occasion. I certainly don't recall any mention of Isaac, but I also haven't read the books.

Other than Altman, I don't think any of the game characters have appeared in the novels.

I was about to say something about some of these DLC comments.
But then I remembered I think DLC arguments are stupid and usually a waste of time so instead I will say Dead Space is cool.

Yeah, and he's kinda more background fluff to the games, rather than a character
Yeah lets not get into a stupid argument after I already made a joke to start this conversation. I mean I thought it was obvious I was joking. I'm personally excited to know there will be more dead space. So after I finish Aliens I'll get to go back and murder some mofo'ing necromorphs.
I wonder if this will have a female character as a main character for a first in Dead Space.

Now that I think about it,
in a sense the Markers are characters that appear in both the books and games. :P
edit: actually nah, there are several different ones.
edit2: but the entities behind them could be the same?

So Isaac is the only major character in the series that doesn't appear anywhere else but the games.
Also, Panda, you know how the Security Suit is on a shelf to your left when you enter that storage room in chapter 4 (or is it 5?)? Well, I looked to the right and went straight ahead through the door...
Short version: I'll be buying DS3 on the PC -- probably preordering in the next few days so I can get the bonus suits and have it available at launch. If they release story DLC for the PC, I'll most likely buy it. If they release it for PS3/360 only, then I won't. If they would've released the DS2 DLC on PC, I would've bought it. They didn't, so I didn't.

Not buying something because it was incompatible with what you have seems logical to me. I guess what you're saying is that you want the DLC but are concerned that it won't be available on your platform?
Not directed at you, but at that other controversy... seeing as not every PC gamer is using bleeding edge hardware, I'm not sure why people are upset about it just being a console port either... but eh.

I'm not particularly bent out of shape about that one either. It'd be nice to have HD texture packs, DX11 support, etc. But as long as I can run it at 60FPS at 1920x1200 (which, based on the previous 2 PC versions, seems likely) I won't complain.

Ah ok, never thought of it. I'm the "Must. Look. Evrywhirr!" kinda player, so if there isn't some super-regenerating mutant fuck on my ass I'll vacuum-clean every nook and cranny. This probably adds on one hour playtime or so on the first playthrough though

You could almost say that the marker in the first game was a character, since Nicole is used as a sort-of avatar for it. Edit - Oh yeah, there's some avatar'ing in the second game as well! Well, I'll get to that:
Markers are one of the things I disliked in the DS1->DS2 evolution btw. In the first game it was portrayed as a thing-man-wasn't-supposed-to-know™, hella dangerous and alien, but quite far from evil. In DS2 it's demon spawn from hell straight up (even though the GUNA DESTROY UR MIND endfight was quite cool), and that's kinda flat compared to 'something so advanced beyond human comprehension that any attempt to use it will end poorly'.

In today's PlayStation Store update, Sony revealed the details on Dead Space 3's controversial microtransactions and downloadable content, spilling the beans on what you'll be able to buy and how much it'll set you back. Let's see if it's everything those mobile gamers expect!
A basic resource pack will set you back a buck, with more significant upgrades and item packs costing five dollars each. The microtransactions will help you get non-paid gear too, as you can buy more scavenger bots (and purchase "personalities" for them) in order to reap in-game rewards. Available is an "accelerator" for the bots -- presumably a way to get your resources faster than the game ordinarily allows.
The list also confirms something we all expected -- an online pass, charging secondhand buyers $9.99 for the privilege of accessing the online co-op mode.
Check out the full microtransaction details below.
Hopefully, all of the DLC will be released on PC this time around.
I was a bit miffed they didn't release the dlc for 2, so add me on to that hope train.

I was really bummed to see a QTE rear it's ugly head in the demo, especially after the first two games took such pains to mask the HUD as Isaac's holographic interface. That's more concerning to me than microtransactions.
Yep, it was in both games. I mean QTE's are not my favorite thing in games, but they aren't satans asshole. Unless its a fucking knife fight with god damn dialogue... FUCK YOU RE4 Far Cry 3.

This is entirely incorrect.
And the Dev team was already completely finished crafting Mass Effect 3 well before they began work on From Ashes.

That said, ehhhh I don't really care.
