Who has my student loan?!?

So....I have a student loan, that has been set to auto-pay for years. I don't think about it much, just log in once a year and print out the tax form. But now I'm ready to pay off the full amount. Except: in April of this year, the loan "changed hands," except that it still says on my bank account "DEPT EDUCATION STUDENT LN." When I log in to the original site- it says my balance is 0.00, (since it was transferred) but how do I figure out who HAS my loan? (let's pretend a letter was sent out in March that told me this but "the dog ate it."

Try mohela. Pretty sure they took over all of the dept. of education student loans.

Edit - I guess technically they didn't take over all of the loans. But in late 2011 early 2012 several hundred thousand loans were transferred from the department of education to mohela. It was kind of a shit show. If you were part of it you've probably been charged late fees for paying to the wrong place after it transferred.

Mine changed hands like 3 times over the years before finally ending up at SallieMae. They're another big one, so check them too.

I bet if you stopped paying them you would figure out pretty fast who you owe that money to
