Welcome to the Starcraft 2 thread

2370682-heartoftheswarmboxart.jpg

You've arrived at the official Penny Arcade StarCraft 2 discussion page. Here we discuss everything from the game, the races, balance issues, tournaments, and the culture (K-Pop, etc). Be warned, this thread moves quickly, especially when live events are happening.

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm releases in North America on March 12th, 2013. While the video above has some out of date units, the campaign stuff should still be valid. The game is currently in Beta testing and you can acquire a key by pre-purchasing the game from participating game stores.

How to play with PA people.
1) Log into Battle.net and join channel PA (on the NA realm). We all hang out there. Chat, 1v1 lobbies, and team shenanigans are always going on!

2) Sign up for a replay site such as gamereplays.org or drop.sc. This is a site where you can upload your replays. The perfect way to share your replays with the thread and get advice on how to get better. Gamereplays lets you post the cool banner that you frequently see on the internets and drop.sc lets you upload replays without having to create a new account.

3) Register with the PA SC2 1v1 Ranking site. Sign up for this awesome site to see where you stand amongst fellow PA members. Remember, this is important in the nurturing and expanding of your e-peen. Add yourself by clicking on [Manage Characters] on the top right side.

4) Sign up for the PA mumble page. Sign up if you want to chat with fellow PA users during games or watching tournaments. Thanks to Exoplasm for hosting the service and providing the step-by-step process for installing mumble.

Where can I watch some good tournaments and streams?

lol Idra FINALLY beat the guy he was 0-6 to

    Ling/bling/muta in ZvP

Seemed actually really good. Ling/bling cleans up stalkers nicely and a big enough flock of mutas can kill colossi and reinforcing stalkers. Might give it a go in the unranked ladder. Seems like you need like 30 mutalisks though and obviously a shit ton of gas.

the great thing about ling bling muta in ZvP compared to ling muta - yes you cut into the muta count a bit with the banes, but he can't go pure phoenix to coutner your mutas, because zealots can't hold the line against lings when there's baneling support.

Yeah, it seemed interesting. The muta vs Phoenix micro seems kind of intense, though. I'll probably try it in unranked until I feel like I can win more than 50% of my games with it. Or it'll crash and burn like when I usually use mutas. Beta is fun! New things are fun! :D

After his win, he lost to a blink-stalker all-in off two bases. It's amazing what blink does to the survivability of stalkers.

Isn't that the exact same composition he's been using for the last three years with little to no variation? I'm not surprised he managed to win (a single game) with it. The bonus hint was you only mentioned traditional toss units.

Idra is a very whiny waste of space.

nah, in each zvp out of the 8 or so i've watched now, he's done somethign completely different. He's tried just about every unit composition under the sun, but the ones that worked best were ling/bling/muta and to a lesser extent ling/bling/ultra

he just won another with ling/bling/ultra into brood/corruptor/infestor

Welp, after about 40ish games, I am back to gold in HotS. Platinum next.

I was absolutely on fire today. I played about 10 ladder games and maybe 8 or so unranked games and even some practice games

I'm pretty sure out of all of those, I only dropped 4 games today.

Win ratio is looking better this season. 22-15
Hopefully I can keep this up in the HotS gold league. I havent touched WoL in weeks, but I feel like I have improved a lot. I wonder if I could hit diamond on WoL now.

Holy shit that was the worst possible engagement ever from trap. Dream lets him back into the game by being terrible at defending drops and being indecisive, and then he just throws it away by trying to fight a late game terran army head on.

Actually, Whiplash isn't such a bad commentaor, it's SNM that really sucks.

He talks like he has a ten ton tongue in his mouth, loses his train of thought repeatedly, doesn't know anything about the game and doesn't pay attention to what is happening on the screen in front of him.

  • mastmanmastman Registered User regular
you know who else doesn't know anything about the game... Kaeleris. I dislike him as a caster. Never deduces anything on his own, just reiterates what his co-caster says.

    Sounds fine to me.

I laughed at his "Alright guys, manner up. I'm allowed to eat bread" when everyone in chat was giving him shit for eating bread with nothing on it.

GSL U&Ds, Taeja vs Dream, Taeja has 5 seconds worth of an upgrade advantage realises it and crushes most of Dreams army. Amazing awareness.

I'm getting excited to get back into HotS again.

With the fresh "new" style and map pool it definitely feels good again... it's been a while since I felt like that.

So far, swarm hosts kind of suck for their cost but we'll see. ^^'

I, for one, ain't really excited about HotS ladder at all. I can't beat silver terrans as it is, so I'm not optimistic about facing better medivacs, widow mines and all that shit. At least it'll be fun playing campaign with zerg.

  • MMMigMMMig Registered User regular
Well yeah I think there's still a lot of balance issues.

Good lord the strong medivacs are insane.

I'm content playing golds / plats at the moment, as I know I'm making a ton of mistakes or miss-reading builds. So it's kind of learning to play again, which is the fun part.

Somehow they feel stronger than the golds / plats than in WoL.

the leagues are definitely skewed with better people being in lower leagues than the wol ladder. Smaller population, probably more of the die-hard sc2 fans pre-bought to get into the beta, lots of pros got hook ups, makes sense.

TaeJa's badass play was part of what hooked me into watching SC2 pro play a while back. I think it was during a proleague match, where some team was just manhandling Liquid. Bo5, I think it was down to 4-0, then TaeJa shows up and just starts wrecking people left and right. Wins the match 5-4, I can only imagine he turned to the rest of the team and asked them why he keeps them around.

I mean, yeah, he's not unbeatable, but I see soooo many P's and Z's, it's nice to watch a solid T in action, particularly since that's the race I generally enjoy playing the most. Not that I ever ladder, mostly just enjoy the SP campaign and then go comp stomp in 2v2 or 3v3, which can be a fun mix of cheesing and struggling vainly against all 3 of them rushing one poor soul who begs for help. Definitely learn not to get too greedy on tech knowing that in a few minutes there'll be barbarians at the gates.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

Yeah those were the IPTL games where Taeja was carrying the entire team by himself

reverse-all-killing IM and other korean teams, multiple times

    those games were ridiculous

Taeja's reaction time, game sense, and micro were all ungodly
