Search didn't come up with a thread so I figured why not, there's bound to be a bunch of guitar/bass players in here.
One of my favorite things is to just look at other people's rigs and just guitars and stuff in general. So without further ado... Post pics of your gear!
Here's what I'm using currently: (pics will be added later)
Guitars:
Fender MIM Standard P-bass (live)
Fender American Standard P-bass (recording)
Fender MIM Standard Jazz
I have I bought it off a pawn shop when I came back in 2003 I was in awe of it. It stunk of a bar and far too many cigs. I semi smells of that now
A Crate 250 amp
I have a tiny marshall amp I bought when I first attempted to learn the guitar.
I have a now I have learned how to play it I don't feel I am that bad since I started to play it again but I really need to stick with it
I bought Rocksmith to force myself to learn how to play the guitar. I have been looking around at basses and ran into the question I asked earlier.
I also have been looking at guitars since that gibson is a beast

I have No idea I am looking for a bass to learn on. some of the salesmen were less than helpful in this reguard
where'd you go shopping? guitar centers across the world are pretty universally terrible with actually knowing stuff about instruments
i don't know a whole lot about bass guitars in particular but my advice w/r/t buying a first instrument is to get something comfortable and affordable and don't worry so much about what it sounds or what it's made of or how much it costs or whatever
i understand that the ibanez SR series are solid entry-level instruments and can be had for hella cheap on the 'bay
I know this place is for you fancy guitarist, but I feel I can get away with talking about my babies (drums) in here
I would have pictures but my camera is still in two
So I have a 80's Ludwig rocker 5 piece, it was my entry level set, I still love it, all silver and cool looking It has 12' and 14' toms on the rack, a 16' floor tom a 22' bass drum a 14' by 4' snare drum
I use remo Coated Ambassador on this set
My new baby, who I just bought four months ago is a Gretsh *drools* My dream drums (I nearly creamed my pants when I bought them) The Catalina Maple a six piece in a beautiful dark cherry gloss finish
it comes with a 8' 10' and 12' racks a 16' floor and a 14' by 6' snare and a 20' bass drum
I use evans coated heads
My cymbal set up is weak sauce right now, because at the time when I bought it I had no idea that the good cymbals were hand hammered, so I bought what I thought was the best, and that is the zildjian k series
I bought a cymbal pack and it came with
20' k ride
18' k dark thin crash
16' k dark thin crash
and a 14' k hi-hats
Though now that I know hand hammered is the way to go, when I get my next student loan money in coming up soon here in a couple of weeks, I plan to buy either sabian or meinel hand hammered cymbals, and I decided I won't go with a pack, I will buy them individually, which will cost me an arm and a leg(some cymbals go for as much as $500 a piece), but it is well worth it.
I use dw hardware
I also have a dw 3000 single pedal (double pedals is for cheaters)
I have a sound percussion medium height seat(made to support the weight of fatties like me)
Guitars: Taylor T-3, ESP H-300, Gordon Smith Graduate 60, Cheap ass no name acoustic from a second hand shop
Amps: Blackstar HT-1 head + cab, Blackstar Artisan 15
Pedals: Buddah Bud-wah, Ibanez TS9 (just a boring new one), Mr T T Fuzz, EH Small Clone, Boss RC-50
Time spent playing these days: nowhere near enough
I have a red American Stratocaster with Seymour Duncan mini humbuckers in the bridge and neck and a Krank Rev 1 stack.
When I plug in it either sounds like the apocalypse has arrived or I can ease off the gain, flip it to the stock pickup, and get that classy Stratocaster sound.
Also I have a Danelectro. I don't really know why.

I went to Grandma's and Guitar Center during the Xmas rush I think they were more interested in being left alone. At Grandma's the salesman points to a stack of the Stop Dreaming Fender bass kit and says they are a great place to start
at Guitar Center he really was too busy to give me a clear answer
Get a stamp out fender bass
it is a good beginner bass, and good enough to gig with when the time comes, and if you want to make it badass to some point it is easy to upgrade the pick ups

I have a crapload of guitars and basses and such
Mostly I play a gibson sg if I'm playing guitar. I have an ltd viper that needs new pickups or i'd play it more.
Over the last few years I've been playing bass more than guitar. I catch a lot of shit because I have nice basses but 99% of the time I play on a beat up old squier j-bass. I like the feel of its neck better than my other basses. Also, it is green.

absolutely. Coming from a long history of guitar, I really don't like the giant thick baseball bat necks most basses have

Main difference between a Jazz and a Precision bass is the placement of the pickups. Jazz has 2 seperate, single coil pickups; one at the bridge and one at the neck, while a Precision bass has 1 (a split-coil humbucker) in the middle. Tone-wise a Jazz bass is more on the cleaner, lighter and clearer sound whereas a Precision has the more dark, heavy growl. There's a lot more to it such as the neck (smaller, thinner neck for a jazz and fat and wide neck for a precision) but that's the biggest difference. The 'standard' is just the name of the series. There's highway one, custom shop, road worn, classic vibe,... but those differences aren't really of importance when you start out.
If I could advise one thing for beginners it's to just pick up a guitar that looks cool to you and plays fun. It took me a few years to get the hang of getting the most out of my guitars soundwise, so don't fixate on 'which guitar is best suited for what I want to do'. With some effort you can get any sound out of any guitar. Especially bass.
Here's some pictures of my guitars.
Jazz bass:
Precision bass(American Standard):
My other Precision looks exactly the same but just has a Rosewood neck in stead of maple.
i can play come as you are by nirvana and dammit by blink 182 and mary had a little lamb
if you can't play dammit you're p terrible i'm just saying
that was literally the first thing i did when i got my guitar
learned to play that riff and then the rest of the song
+1

hey me too!
I have been getting back into my guitaring after taking an extended break, due to lacking the space to keep my amp, pedals, etc.
I've got a black Gibson Explorer and a red Epiphone Les Paul that I'll switch between. I can't help but gravitate to the Les Paul for practicing (I think mostly because it's got a ridiculously low action) but I've been digging the Explorer's tone much more lately
also a Taylor acoustic that is way nice and I'm kinda surprised I ever bought myself such a nice thing
Let me ask you, did you get the Explorer to be like Metallica?

My guitar is just some aria six string that let's me shred like a boss.
I just got a fender affinity squier 5 string bass and dear lord am I in love. Its the one I got for christmas.
I need to go out and price me some cheap 20w bass amps though so I can drop it to C# and start playing some metal. Currently just using my dads 20 year old pevley studio pro 60 amp which does its job quite well.
Seems like pretty much the only colours I dig on guitars are black on black or black on sunburst. Can't go wrong with either.
@interrobang; I love tele's so much. I actually just ordered a Squier VM Tele custom (one of the new ones). I'm getting into guitar lately and I had a Squier VM Tele Custom with the P90's and it played and sounded awesome for the price. Can't wait for mine to get here.

i love my tele
my favorite guitar i've ever owned is the old SG Jr. that i had back in high school, i wish i still had that bad boy
i love that squawky vintage p90 sound and that thing honked like a goose
I loved that Fender Strat I had back in highschool during the first attempted time I learned to play
I cut up my hand pretty bad one summer so I had to stop while it healed
I sadly use my crate amp as a table and I think I know where my marshall mini is if I still have it
I went and looked at basses while I was half sleep. The problem I forsee since my brother and I are both looking at them to share while we learn I am afarid we are going to pick different ones.
There is a shop in town called Music go around that sells used instraments that everyone recomends I go look at.
