Pokemon breeding is the most disturbing thing ever. It's no wonder the games are afraid to say anything other than the egg magically appears out of nowhere.
You stick two unsuspecting pokemon in a pen to have sex, you hatch the eggs but aren't satisfied so you force the mother to get it on with her newborn son and so on until you have the most powerful inbred pokemon ever.
Breeding two pokemon should reduce one IV on both of them by one point to represent the exertion involved. Just to annoy everyone and make them save and reload until a non-essential IV ends up being the one that's reduced.
Oval charm for unova and shiny for national are nice lil bonuses. Oval charm is a nice boost to breeding (helps old man find eggs quicker) and the shiny charm increases chances of finding shiny pokemon. The latter is I guess the only prize that would make sense. What do you give the trainer that now has everything and still wants to collect? Shinies.
