This is a fucking great comic.
Reminds me of when I was in college and our mod had a whiteboard in the lounge that we used to draw penis related puns on (phalligator etc) and one of my roommates who was an art major managed a pretty great recreation on Van Gogt's Starry Night. With cocks.

Also what the controller is that? Looks like he's holding an Xbox.

The expressions on their faces in the last panel are just so perfect. Like you can tell exactly what happened in the previous panel without even needing to read it.

Man, the best I've been able to pull with the BLOPS II emblem editor is a dolphin shouting, "BACON PANCAK."

I envy cartoon Gabe's ability to do things with shapes. Maybe they can sell me that for Child's Play: "Have Mike do a BLOPS emblem for you."

What is this I don't even.

    That's the joke.
It's a long running joke that Xbox controllers are too big for most people.

Ha, jokes on you! Haystacks is not one piece, it's a series of about 25 pieces.

There is no single piece that is 'the' haystacks piece, so if they really knew what they were talking about they'd be saying series rather than piece, and Gabe would either refer to a specific one of the pieces (like Haystacks, Midday or Haystacks at the end of summer, morning effect) or speak in general terms of emulating the style of Haystacks.

On a different note, the only ones I've seen personally are with the Scottish National Gallery.

Oh I know. I was reading back when these comics came out.
But they've always drawn them as looking like an Xbox controller (bear being the exception). This is just a black brick. If it is the WiiU controller, that makes sense.

Really guys, a giant XBox controller? Come on now.

Yes, it's a Wii U controller. Go back and read Monday's news post from Gabe for context.

What on earth do you mean? A full 3 out of the last 15 comics were in some way related to video games. That's 20% on-topic material!

What is this I don't even.

Of course he's using a Wii U. There's no fucking way in the world that Tycho would sit there and watch Gabe arrange primatives for 10 hours.

That said, it's a wholly inaccurate comic.

The gamepad doesn't have a power cable coming out of it.

That's the line to his headset.

I felt a small, small piece of this joy when someone identified my Reach emblem as a guy wearing a skull for a hat. I believe I punched the air in celebration.

I'm guessing the suggestion is that the gamepad doesn't have very good battery life and people are just playing with the charge cable in. Dunno for sure 'cause I don't have one though.

No, it's the line to his headset. You can follow the cable coming out of the gamepad, and up Gabe to near his head, where he's wearing a headset.

That was really only a joke with the original obox controller (the one nicknamed "The Duke"), and that is obviously the WiiU tabtroller, it looks nothing like any XBox controller ever made.

I'm fully aware. Expand the quotes in my post to see what I was talking about, silly goose.

Oh, OK. So "the suggestion" you were referring to was one made by Athenor, not a suggestion made by the comic. See, I was confused because you didn't specify.

What if it's all 25? It DID take 10 hours

I really, really love the colors in this comic. The dialog is spot-on as well!

    A very good one. :)

This comic reminded me of the time I spent some ridiculous number (maybe 20?) of hours creating Val Kilmer's face in a Winning Eleven 8 flag editor.

The jersey has more of his forehead because you can design an emblem in addition to the flag and place them both on the shirt. The pun included on the shirt is regrettable. I really should have just gone with Val's head. I mean, this is a game about soccer... not killing. Oh well, live and learn.
