What games would you recommend getting for a Vita?

CreepynazgulCreepynazgul Registered User new member
I've been curious about getting a vita for awhile now. After I beat P4 on my ps2 it sparked my interest in the remake and was wondering if there were any other games worth getting. Please state the reason for your recommendation. Thanks

You should check out the PSVita thread. It has a lot of recommendations. Personally, I've had a lot of fun with Gravity Rush and Persona 4 Golden on my Vita. GR is a very fun third person platformer that has a lovely art style and a fun movement mechanic where your character can control the direction of gravity. Persona 4 Golden -- well, you've played Persona 4, it's that but way better in every way.

Some of the best games on the Vita (leaving off Persona 4G since you already said you want it):

Gravity Rush - Great Action/Adventure/Sandbox game where you use gravity to explore and fight. Fantastic art style & great controls that really shows off what the Vita can do. Awesome soundtrack as well. One of the only sandbox games I actually like. Free on Playstation Plus.

DJ Max Technika Tune - Touch-based music game (think Elite Beat Agents on the DS) with lots of catchy Korean music. On the expensive side ($45 digitally, physical copy can only be purchased directly from the publisher) but well worth it. Very niche but highly recommended if you think it sounds fun.

Lumines - Best version of Lumines (a puzzle game with an emphasis on music) out there.

Rayman Origins - Multiplatform game but as long as you don't care about multiplayer, the Vita version is a fantastic port. Awesome platformer.

Sound Shapes - Platformer where the stages & your actions turn into music. Features strong tools to make and share your own levels (or get other levels from other people online).

Games I haven't played yet but have heard good things:
    LittleBigPlanet Vita
    Assassin's Creed: Liberation
    Ragnarok Odyssey

Also worth noting is that the Vita is a better PSP player than an actual PSP. Higher quality screen, slightly shorter load times, and you can map controls to the right analog stick which makes a few games much more playable. Only downside is that it doesn't take UMDs so the game has to be available digitally to get it on your Vita (and there's a handful of games that aren't compatible).

@Dehumanized - Thanks I was looking for something like that but didn't see it at first lol. Yeah I saw Gravity Rush and it looked awesome the graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay looks like a lot of fun. I've already seen some stuff of P4 Golden. The Adachi social link alone was what peaked my interest. I'm also curious of this game called Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward.

@RainbowDespair - I've heard mixed things about ragnarok odyssey. I stopped playing AC a long time ago. I already have Rayman Origins on my 360 and I do agree its a great game. And Yeah I couldn't care less about multiplayer. Let's just say had several bad experiences with certain games and leave it at that. Yeah I heard it doesn't take UMDs I had a PSP awhile ago but I didn't have that many games, Crisis core, BBS, some PS1 ports and that's about it. How big of a memory card would you suggest for a Vita?

For Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, I'd strongly recommend playing 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (for the Nintendo DS) first. VLR is a direct sequel to that game. The game is self contained enough that you could jump in if you don't have access to a DS, but there are a lot of deep story hooks to the first game that you might end up pretty confused about if you haven't played it.

Gameplay-wise, both 999 and VLR work as a melding of a visual novel and a point-and-click adventure game. The visual novel side is heavy on branching narrative and an awesome plot, the latter is heavy on logic puzzles and lateral thinking. It doesn't pull any Roberta Williams shit, and you don't have to pixel hunt, but you should have to think to complete all of the puzzles.

I grabbed a PSN+ subscription and picked up:

Knytt, Mortal Kombat, Gravity Rush and Uncharted for 'free'.

They may differ depending on where you're located. I also got Assassin's Creed 3 with it. My comments:

Assassins Creed 3 - Ok, but I'm a little burnt out on AC and it does little knewnew. I'll play though it at some point though.

Uncharted - Looks amazing, plays really well. Some gimmicky controls (dragging across the screen to climb, etc) but a lot can be ignored and those that are essentialreally work quite well. I'm a fan of tilting the PS3 to lean back ready for a jump.

Gravity Rush - Played the demo of it before signing up to PSN+, loved the dem, can't wait to get stuck in to the full game.

Mortal Kombat - Plays exactly the same as the PS3 version, character models have lost some detail, clearly a lower polygon count and backgrounds aren't quite as good but the game appears to run at a rock solid 60fps and plays brilliantly.

Knytt - Amazing, but I'm a 2D platforming fan. I can honesty say I've barely played any of the above games since getting my vita because I've been spendig all my time on this. Interesting 'plot', platforming mechanics are fun, massive open map, pleny to do and see. Funny, sarcastic, fairly adult at times in themes and content. I couldn't recommend it enough. Try the demo, I believe it gives you the first chapter which introduces you to some of the mechanics.

Motorstorm RC - The only game I've actually 'bought' up to now. Played the demo and it reminded me of Super Skidmarks on the Amiga. That alone was enough o warrant the purchase. Definitely worth the money.

Also memory card, I got a 4gb free with the Vita. I downloaded and installed AC3 and that took up 2.9gb, leaving .8gb left (4gb = roughly 3.7gb usable). I ran out and bought a 16gb which is plenty big for what I need it for. I've currently got:

Mortal Kombat, Gravity Rush, Knytt, Motorstorm RC, LBP: Demo (same size as full game I think) and Wipeout demo installed and still have a fair bit of space left.

@Mr_Grinch Ok I got myself a 3 month subscription to PS Plus and got Retro City Rampage, Uncharted, Gravity Rush, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. So far I love gravity rush and retro city(love old school games). And I did pick up the golden and was really happy I got to play it. Really impressed with atlus. I got myself a 16gb memory card and so far its holding pretty well. I love my vita. I wasn't able to get Knytt and Mortal Kombat for free but knytt is offered at a discount of about 8-9 I think.

But I do have a question about the digital downloads. I'm interested in getting the other Persona games off the PS store and was curious if the digital download of Persona 2 came with both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment or one of them.

  • CreepynazgulCreepynazgul Registered User new member
Ah nevermind I just took a closer look at it. Its just Innocent Sin. Hoping it was both games since its $30. Oh well. Thanks for all the help.
