Matt isn't even trying anymore- The Simpsons Thread

WarponyWarpony Too small. The MoonRegistered User regular
Hopefully there isn't one already, but even if ther is, why isn't The Simpsons as funny as they were anymore? More seasons keep popping up and I can see how much it keeps getting rather bland, the last rerun i watched included Homer being paralyzed to the point he could only communicate to Lisa by using Flatulence. Maybe that was funny to some, but I don't see how that could even be Simpsons material as compared to what they were before the Movuie came out.

It feels as if the show itself tries to be better against the likes of Family Guy by incorporating such humor into what I believed something worthy of watching.

So how long will it be on with more seasons and will it ever pick up at all?

I can't remember the last time I laughed at the Simpsons.

But I also haven't paid for TV in 2 1/2 years.

Is the Simpsons one of Seth Macfarlane's new shows?

In about 5 posts this is just going to turn into people quoting the show
There will be no further discussion then

I still enjoy the new episodes. Obviously after 23 years though they're running out of material. Every joke's been done before but they are still producing a decent show. Of course the older stuff was better to me but then, I was younger then. Maybe if I was 10 years old now I would think old Simpsons was dumb and new Simpsons is great. Who knows?

Still better than anything Seth Macfarlane does, that's for sure.

I've been watching old episodes. about season 3-9.

    They are still super funny.

Probably funnier to me now then when I watched them as a kid.

I think last year and this year have been a marked improvement over the ten or so previous years. The show's been on for over twenty years, so it's kind of hard to assume it will maintain the same quality over the entire run.

Seasons 3-8 were the peak years.

So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say.

I think that they should let the show end.

I mean I haven't watched it in about 8 years.

But It just started to get really dumb around the time they killed Maud Flanders IMO.

And from what I've heard about recent seasons it's pretty terrible about celebrity guests all the time and dumb recycling of old characters like frank grimes and such.

I think that shows that last more than 10 years always start to get a little old... I feel the same way about comic book characters though so...

I would even take a jab at my most beloved work of art to sorta emphasize my point.

Twin Peaks was the best damn television show ever. I had a dang ass religious experience with that show and I genuinely mean that. With that being said, season 2 just can't compete with the pilot and first season. I feel like it's just the nature of the beast as far as TV as a medium goes for a variety of reasons. Now I'm not a big TV person but I know there are exceptions to the rule but they are just that, exceptions.

Speaking of Twin Peaks we are so close to 25 years later if there are any fans out there.

i probably find the simpsons and futurama as funny as i do because it's almost exactly like hanging out with Matt, so the humor has that human element to it for me.

The jump from traditional to digital animation is super evident in them. They're able to produce episodes much more cheaply and efficiently and can do a lot of things that were just not feasible in the past, but they lose a lot of character and life in the process. Without the ability to do smear frames, really crazy squash and stretch and drag, you lose a lot of the zany, kinetic energy that was possible in the past.

I fucking love smear frames. They look utterly bizarre by themselves, but done well, they're hardly noticeable beyond the feeling they produce in the shot.

I try not to watch Bob's Burgers. I don't really see anyting new into it what Family Guy and The Simpsons haven't tried. Don't get me started on Sit Down, Shut Up.

But I heard it got moved to Cable so they say...
