TTODewbackPuts the drawl in ya'llI think I'm in HellRegistered Userregular
It's been a pain in the butt because the Auction House has been working on and off for like a week or two. So trying to keep myself geared and maintain a stash of money has become quite a chore. I'm getting time outs and "system overloaded" type messages all the time and my completed tab is broken most days.
yea, the AH has been hella flaky, but still ends up working once it wakes up for me.
finished getting my my Barb to 60 last night, and got some gear on him. i like it better than WD so far. it just feels stronger and easier to play. so i'll need to finish out inferno on him, and i'll probably try to level my monk too :P
thinking about playing HC too, but i'm still enjoying the game, so... no need for that yet

I just did my one character on HC because I'm an achievement whore.
So yes I know tomorrow is when they normally do maintenance anyways, but it's not normally 8 hours long which makes me hope this is the patch being put in place even though I know it's not...
So I just got the game (Yeah I'm slow) and just had a huge blast blowing through Normal. Difficulty seems a little janky, I had a hell of a time beating Belial, then spanked Azmodan in about 5 seconds. (for reals). Anyway, I'm fully addicted and ready to keep going. So where do I read about the sweet, delicious Demon Hunter builds? Reading back through the thread I don't see many DH's anyplace.

Don't worry about it until inferno. Just try a bunch of skills and runes out and have fun with it.

Late in Hell, you might have to think a bit more about your build, but as Dehumanized said, pre Inferno and late Hell, just try different stuff.

The difficulty of certain elite pack affixes / bosses varies wildly based on what class you are.
The boss fights in particular ( barring Ghom) are much easier for melee than the ranged. Belial being a pretty common stumbling block due to the snake adds and over hand fists to the face.
So as a demon hunter what you experienced is pretty in-line with the game in general.
As has been said by Dehumanized and GnomeTank, you can ignore your build until about the 50's in general. Just do whatever.
Edit* Also @Hooverfan don't get my hopes up damnit!

I will most definitely get your hopes up just to watch as Blizzard crushes them and I get to taste your sweet, sweet tears of pain!
I've been considering making the decision to not use the AH and to see just how far you can really go without it. I've heard the drop rates are terrible, but I've managed to find enough items to push my MF up to around 320%. However, to do this I have to run MP1 and just live in Act 3. Wanted to get y'alls opinions on what sort of disadvantages I will have by making this choice. I don't want to so severely limit my playing experience that I am unable to really enjoy the game...however...I really dislike the AH.
You don't have to do MP anything. You can get to Inferno without even looking at the AH. And do MP1-3 probably too. And with some luck higher. Ignoring the AH is fine, but there's no real reason to do it either. It's all your choice.
"For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men. Not women. Not beasts...this you can trust."
it depends how much you value your time, not using the auction house is going to hurt you both short and long term in your ability to accrue money, as even with a ridicously high gold find you still arent going to get enough money to stay ahead of gem upgrade costs. (Although I suppose you could just not collect and ocd upgrade gems, but what is the point of that?)
but you really want to use the ah early to get an idea of what is valuable, nothing worse than finding out later that item that seemed like garbage and now in the hands of a vendor was worth bank.
Finding a highly useful item will take weeks, where as buying one is usually a question of days. You build up a strange emotional investment in your gear that dropped for you, so while you think it is the bees knees chances are its sub par crap worth only a few k, this will become a developmental roadblock on your path to becoming a bad ass.
Having a working understanding of the AH will also allow you to safely offload a ton of crap out of your stash and inventory which might seem useful but ultimately is not, I still have a boat load of just barely under useful stats that I need to vendor but I keep thinking i spent X hrs that day and this was the only halfway useful thing that dropped.
I have this masochistic streak running through me about this game. While I am in no hurry, I want to have every class at 60 in HC. Alive. At once. Which means I will have to level another barb eventually. Ridiculous, right?

It's a worthy endeavor. I've been playing path of exile, one thing that i do like about how they do hardcore there, is that once your character dies, it is transferred to softcore. It's something I would like to see in d3, even if the character is transferred naked.
I avoid the AH for most gear. The only time I make a point of it is to buy a weapon with reduced level requirement once I reach Hell. The dropped weapons just don't scale fast enough. Starting Inferno with a found weapon is a joke.
so the servers are back up... and if anything, the AH is worse than before in terms of timing out and general suckitude, so no telling what they did during the outage today
I noticed that the AH is always ass right after down time. Everyone is hammering it at once, and it hasn't been up long enough to reconstruct any caching it uses.
I find the next day or so is when you actually see the AH get smooth again.
If you are reading this add me.

That was definitely a most disappointing patch. The notes read something like this:
Fixed a typo in the comments section of code line 459
So last night I died to that huge club-wielding guy blocking the bridge to Alcarnus. Things were going fine, but I was using the Enchantress for a change, and at one point she turned him into a chicken. So I was wailing on him for a while, but when he turned back, he had massively increased attack speed.
After two or three whacks that came out before I could react, I had myself a dead HC character. Is this a documented thing? Should I report it as a bug, or do enemies suddenly gain huge attack speed buffs with no warning sometimes?

That guy has an ability where he gains attackspeed for a short period of time. It's normal for him and makes him a pain for melee who can't easily disengage while he's rampaging around. I'd guess he cast it while in chicken form or right after and caught you off guard. Sorry for your loss.

That's new.
Note to self: If using the enchantress in HC, do not train polymorph.
There is no official documentation (or really even unofficial) on whether Shatterbone's sudden increase in attack speed is intentional or not, but I did find this thread on the Blizz forums. So long story short, be careful with that guy 'cause he sometimes has a near-instant overhead smash and super fast normal swings.

am pretty sure if the sorceress charms shatterbone he gets in this super fast animation state, and taking damage also resets his animations. It happens without the sorceress but it seemed to be 100% once she hits him with a (almost 0 duration) charm spell.
Huh, I didn't know Shatterbone attacking super fast was a bug. I thought he just got faster as his health gets lower and that was intended. I guess I never realized that it was a Frenzy-style buildup based on him swinging (or something).
I mean him being notorious for unexpectedly killing HC characters is not a new thing. See this video from June. Incidentally, can you still cheese him like that?

Fine by me, but I do warn you I am primarily a SC player, I play HC more as a diversion.

I fired up a HC barb to go with my WD. Currently level 27. Was also thinking of doing a wizard too.
