The lack of any kind of hub world is kind of lame, though. And from what I can tell, there is only a bejeweled-lite mini game to play outside of the 2D and 3D levels. Its not nearly up to par with the Star Wars stuff, but its been great for my daughter to learn platforming and puzzle solving. Some of the puzzles really make her think and the platforming can get pretty technical.
with the star wars sets you can unlock all the other star wars characters and use them. You have to play as the appropriate characters to start but we unlocked most of them just going through the adventure without looking too hard. It's MUCH easier to unlock than the avengers tower of 2.0. One coin per character unlocks them and "most" are out in the open.
I agree its still kind of annoying but it is much better in 3.0 than it was in 2.0

But I've hardly spent any time with it (and the 360 has just been sitting there) because all we do is play the Star Wars playset and Toy Box Takeover together. Olaf shooting carrot missiles at Storm Troopers will literally never not be hilarious fun.
And now that he's started playing a Star Wars game, he finally showed interest in watching the movies. So over the past week we've gotten through 4 of the 5 movies. (screw Ep1, we're going Machete order and it's been pretty great). And now he's even more interested in playing the game because he's got his head wrapped around all the backstories. I think I blew up the little guy's brain when I pulled out the figures after we watched Empire Strikes Back, and explained to him that the next two movies were going to be about how Luke's dad became Darth Vader...oh and by the way, this Jedi figure you've been playing with is Anakin which means he's actually the same guy as the Vader figure.
They are getting with that. The Star Wars sets are a step in the right direction.
Toy Box Takeover and Toy Box Raceway let you use any figure from all 3 games out of the gate.
The Marvel Battlegrounds play set is coming in March, but that only allows Marvel characters
Toy Box Takeover is not especially lengthy and gets really repetitive (and annoying, thanks to the Nexus cloud) and Speedway is pretty terrible thanks to its insanely high difficulty and rubber-banding AI

I'm convinced that they didn't INTENTIONALLY make it The Adventures Of Luke Skywalker, Serial Murderer Of Mos Eisley, but that's how it's playing out. Like, why would they put a Jawa right on the else of the Sarlacc Pit if you weren't supposed to punt him in?
Also: Walk up behind some Stormtroopers that are peacefully walking away from me, pull out blaster, start shooting them in the back as Luke shouts "You've forced my hand!"
I'm pretty sure that a Jedi is supposed to use the force for defense or something. That should prove a comfort to the widows and orphans I'm leaving in my wake.
"Utiniiiiiiiiiiiiii..."
Kinda wish they'd port older playsets into the new engine, with the combat improvements and all.
My only complaint is that I am rubbish at the vehicle segments. There were a ton of flying vehicles in 2.0, and I don't recall having near the trouble with running in to walls in that version.
but they are still fun and i LOVED the tow cable/defend the base challenge.

I don't remember having this trouble with the spaceships in the Guardians play set, but to be fair those didn't move on their own and I think the right stick was Camera, not Cool But Impractical Moves.
Both planets have generic looking NPC's instead of the Star Wars races you know, I expected to be playing a bit of the movie but instead it's all trivial fetch quests. It all feels so lifeless and void of charm.
Even the final fight against Kylo Ren, which should be the most exciting part is just throwing barrels in to his face and the moment you get the lightsaber it goes in to a small cutscene and credits.

There is also Hulkbuster Iron Man that is already available. And if Spider-Man will be playable on Avangers 3.0 I wonder if that means rhe Spider-Man 2.0 figures will be compatible, too. That would be cool.
They announced pretty early that all Marvel characters will be playable in the Marvel Battlegrounds set.

Nice - one of my sons is way into Spider-Man and one of my daughters likes Guardians of the Galaxy. I look forward to Spider-Man and Rocket Raccoon wrecking guys in the future!
Also updated playsets from 1.0 and 2.0 that were compatible with the new marvel and disney figs would be great.
It would also avoid them from having to code everything to be completeable by everybody. I know I want to find all the Iron Man coins in Guardians just because I miss having a flyer.
Now I just want a Olaf vs Kylo Ren fight.

Eh, they kept Gravity Falls on for four years.
No? XD is where all of their Marvel stuff and Star Wars Rebels are shown first. It's a pretty good channel.
"Oh look at that, I've been impaled" ?
XD had Motorcity as well, which was really good.
They also cancelled it, so there's that.
Motorcity was amazing. I know Titmouse was trying to get the rights back, but I never heard if that was successful or not.

I looked up the Boba Fett fig and didn't see it released as a single fig yet, but that got me looking and I got that urge to buy 3.0 for One and Star Wars stuff (plus Stitch and a Venom (to unbox)). Is the Star Wars stuff worth it at all (if I can find a super crazy sale)?

Holy shit, I would buy all the Darkwing Duck figures. Give me that Roboduck figure!
@redfield85 3.0 has still still doesn't run at 60 fps or a stable framerate, menu's stagger when popping up, flying vehicals are a nightmare. Not sure but there's also a input lag it seemed, I had trouble executing combo finishers and such.
As for the Star Wars stuff, I've yet to play the Clone Wars set but the Force Awakens was very disappointing as I mentioned above. three planets with two of them full of trivial fetch quest sand generic looking NPC's, and one planet with a bunch of platforming and a terrible final battle.
We've had fun with all of the Star Wars playsets. So far I'd rank them Rise of the Empire > The Force Awakens > Twilight of the Republic
Fett was on Amazon yesterday, but looks like they already pulled it and the link is dead.
edit: looks like Amazon has some Star Wars figs for $10 right now

I thought Rise of the Empire started really strong and then tanked after the halfway point. Some really annoying space battles and a kind of meh final boss fight. Also ewoks.
I loved the The Force Awakens set enough to repeat most of the missions trying for better rankings, and even had the combat cranked to "Extreme" for a good amount of the time, which is something I very rarely do - I do not seek out challenge.
As mentioned, the final boss fight is dumb dumb dumb dumb and did I mention dumb? But I had good times with everything leading up to it.
