Favorite battle themes eh? Hrm, that's a tough one. Here's my top 5 right now, but I don't remember a lot of them (like FFX/X-2, FFV except for Big Bridge, anything before IV).
FFIV - Zeromus battle theme
FFXIII - Standard battle theme
FFIV - Standard battle theme
FFVII - Boss battle theme
FFVII - Standard battle theme
Triptycho: A card-and-dice tabletop indie RPG currently in development and playtesting
Day 1: What the heck am I listening to? This sucks.
Playthrough 1: Oh okay, it kind of meshes with the rest of the music
Playthrough 2: I dig it
Postgame grinding: Ugh, this is kind of annoying
AP grinding etc: I WOULD RATHER STAB MY EARS OUT THAN LISTEN TO THAT ACCURSED GUITAR RIFF ONE MORE TIME
On the other hand, FFX-2's victory theme is great.
I liked the graphics and music and absolutely nothing else in IX.
Wait, are you one of those people who think FF8 is the best Final Fantasy ever?
Will it shatter your worldview if I say no?
I don't know what to believe any more!
If it helps my favorite is X. And before you ask the next question my first was FF1 back on the NES.
See, X is where I thought the series stopped being Final Fantasy as I knew it, and turned in to a new, but still good game called Final Fantasy. No more ATB, no more world map, etc. So it makes way more sense to me if that's your favorite then IX might not appeal to you as much, as it's in the spirit of FF6.
I really like that first basic battle theme from XI. Probably my basic standard battle music in the series. In terms of something simple but compelling that you hear ten thousand times.
I realize I myself can't definitively answer my own question. Perhaps I should've broken it into favorite random battle theme, favorite boss battle theme, and favorite final boss theme.
I do believe this from Dimensions would be a good contender for that second category. First alternate boss theme to really work its way into similar standing with Fierce Battle and Big Bridge, in my opinion.
On the subject of Dimensions, I was exploring the Lufenian Ruins, and ran into the Eidolon Diabolos pretty much entirely by accident. I honesly thought I had found the third MacGuffin I needed, until it showed his shape. Despite accidentally nearly killing Nacht by using a Dark-elemented sword alongside Drain Attack, I beat him.
So now my Dark Warriors are in the strange position of having Diabolos, but not Leviathan, and I haven't found any Rifts to return to where Leviathan was. Kind of amusing. And now I'm wondering if, like, Alexander or something wasn't in the equivalent dungeon on the Light Warriors' side of things...

Oh man, now that the teams are together, there are so many possible eam combinaions that I'm having trouble deciding.
I definitely want one Magus and one Seer in the team. My Magus could either be Alba (who's been training in Black Mage and has some Dance abilities, so she could heal, too), or Diana (who knows White Magic, but has also been the Dark team's Summoner. My Seer could be Dusk (who knows the Light team's summons, and has already been training in White Magic), or Sarah (who knows Black Magic and Bardsong)
Meanwhile, the physical fighters. I definitely want Aigis, my Paladin, in at all times, because of Mighty Guard, and Glaive's become quite amazing wih the Ranger abilities, and his recent Ninja training, so that leaves the question on whether my third guy should be Sol (Dragoon with some Martial Arts, already knows White Wind) or Nacht (Warrior/Dark Knight).
I suppose I'll just end up swapping out for training periodically... unless the inactive party also earns Job AP and EXP?
I kept both siblings together as my magic users. It seemed appropriate.
Pretty soon after the party all got together, I decided to grind up some job levels. You can level up jobs quite quickly. Like, 1 to 20 in an hour or so.
Yeah, Palom/Porom 2.0 make for nice magic users, and I currently have them in my party.
But, I still want to train Diana as a Magus as well, if for no other reason than to have a strong Dark Team Summoner on tap for when I feel like throwing Diabolos at something.
Though, I suppose I could also just start training Alba in Summon...
I found that summoners are actually better at healing than at damage, personally. Between Unicorn, Phoenix, and one other summon you'll be able to get now that they're all together (that heals massive amounts and gives a random buff, including Haste) a double cast using summoner could get everyone on their feet faster than a double casting Seer.
You mean a Double Casting Seer, but I see your point.
...That makes me wonder whether I should give Alba summoning, or just train DIana as a Magus, because it seems useful to have two people with the strong healing abilities that Summons can give.
Then again, I could just give all my casters Summon. Seems like a very nice secondary to have. If you're a Seer, it means opportuniy to deal magic damage outside of using Holy, and if you're a Magus, it means you can heal things.
Also: Element nullification spells? I haven't seen those since FFI.
Well, for your casters you're going to want Double Cast, for sure. Summons take up a huge amount of MP too, so they should probably have the level 20 White Magic ability.
I never really liked the extra abilities that both Seer and Magus give...
Anyways, though, I don't think I'd recommend giving every caster Summon. You'll miss out on some other nice combinations. Like, Doublecast, Half MP, Magic Font (or whatever the BM lvl 20 ability is) are all really really nice support abilities, especially in combination with one another.
Or does having Doublecast, Halve MP, and Manafont together make Summon obsolete?
Also, how many spaces do Halve MP and Manafont each take up? I'm assuming you get a max of 4 slots at level 20 for a class. Doublecat takes 2, which mean that, unless each of those powers only take up 1 slot, I can only have 1. And since you're suggesting both, they must only take up 1 slot each, right?
I suppose I could give Halve MP and Manafont to the Seer, and give Summon to the Magus. Because the Magus will have access to Osmose.
No, you can't have all those support abilities on one character, they each take up two slots. And yeah, you'll have 4 by the time you max out.
I'd recommend having Summon on at least one person, yeah. And when it comes down to it, you just build whatever you want. It's not gonna be too challenging either way. You're right, too, Osmose for Magus completely voids any MP concerns.

If you're going to run Seer, you'll want Doublecast on them, too. Raise and a full-party Curaga will be better than a single Araise since you'll heal the rest of the party, too.
Plus, Doublecast Holy when they have nothing else to do.
As I haven't played X, and thus haven't seen those spells in action, my statement is still technically correct.
But yeah, okay, I suppose null spells have been used a little more recently than FFI.
So, I just got perhaps the best Fusion Ability ever. Mighty Wall. Mighty Guard + Attack Boost. With that, Last Resort, and Darkness, Nacht was dealing over 6000 damage with each attack to
Zombie Baugauven
and once got hit by the boss's strongest attack to the tune of about 950 damage.
Awright! I just mastered my first Job in Dimensions!
Nacht hit level 20 Dark Knight, and learned the amazing Ebony Slash.
Make him a Ninja, turn on Last Resort, and spam that thing with two weapons? Cocytus went down before his count hit 0. (Mighty Wall and periodic Meteor bombardmants helped, but he was doing over 6000 damage in a turn.)
I'm still super early, all my jobs are max level 3. I'm presuming as I beat bosses I get those JLVL Up things and have to pick how to specialize. I hope soonish, as I've almost mastered all the jobs I have available to me already. I should change everyone to Jobless and get an idea of their natural strengths et all before I look at specialization, I suppose.
Ninja: While posting that, I hit chapter 2. Hope nothing was missable in 1!
Also:
Final Fantasy: All The Bravest -- was that released in Japan first, or was it dropped on the US store first? If so, what was Japan's take on the whole thing?
Still no word on an Android version -- I suspect they won't be releasing one, but hope they do. Yes, it's kind of a ripoff, but it seems like a fun screen saver-like toy if nothing else.

For end boss, it's hard to go wrong with Xenogears
Xenoblade does have an excellent OST. I haven't had a chance to actually start playing it, but this is one of my favorite VG songs of all time

One of the most delightfully terrible songs ever.
Though I sure do love me the Wings of the Goddess battle music.
But I've probably heard every theme in FFXI in excess of 100+ hours, and that isn't even exaggerating, but they are all still really good.
Also just because

I want to play this game so badly.
Meanwhile, the Dark Warriors have Glaive using Quick Shot and training for Dual Wield, and Nacht, who just learned Last Stand.
Is there an item hat prevents Instant Death? Because Nacht could totally use some of that, to make boss fights easier.
