If by something you mean the inevitable FF VI iOS that this thread and many others will bitch and moan about incessantly whenever it is announced, well, I do expect it to happen this year if not directly at E3. iOS still doesn't by and large have a place there yet.

So I guess this is kind of like their Nintendo Direct.

It's about time they moved away from closed theater presentations, but how convenient that they have this now when there probably isn't nearly as many games or projects people are dying to get more information of.

That FFXIV CE is very enticing, though. I've rolled my eyes over the pointless extras that have been packed into CEs in the past, but Square actually released one that is balanced between aesthetically pleasing items and cool in-game items.

Just hope the game is good.

Unfortunately, with Dragon Quest, it's up to Nintendo.

SE could give 2 shits about DQ outside Japan.

Square recently put up a countdown on their FF 10th Anniversary site, which just ended right now.

This is what it led to: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/yantama10th/

    Wasn't Final Fantasy's 10th anniversary, like, 16 years ago?

It reminds me about that one comment from an SE graphics artist in how he saw Skyrim for the first time, and wished he was capable of making a game with that grand a scale on both art style and content.

It still depresses me whenever I recall that comment.

I'm fairly surprised they don't have someone at Eidos making a first person RPG Final Fantasy game right now. There's definitely a potential market for a western made FF game no matter how much I'd probably hate it.

What FF truly needs is a good story and a good director, and then outsource the game to a company better equipped to working on an HD console.

It's why I hope the rumor of Sony helping with the development of Versus holds up. As far as technical matters go, they have more than enough people to make a gorgeous looking game and not take 8 motherfucking years to make it.

Seeing as it's fresh in your mind, is the ending as batshit as I remember? "The ending" in this case being everything from "monsters are coming from the moon" onwards, I guess. Also what is the deal with the Ragnarok ship.

Erm, yeah it kinda was, but when you get time travel involved it's always gonna go that way. I honestly wouldn't start picking at loose threads with the ending because the whole thing will unravel. Just enjoy the fact the good guys win, guy gets the girl, ect ect.

Have you read about the fan-theory that
Ultimecia is Rinoa from the future, and Griever is Squall from the future? It at the very least makes sense of the fact that Griever is named after Squall's ring.

There's also the fan theory called Squall Is Dead, but screw that one as it adds nothing to the plot or themes.

Well it's not that out there considering Squall says if Rinoa went evil he would still be her knight.

We probably don't have to, but I'd consider it in good form. As we just saw, people are still playing and beating it for the first time. It's not like it really costs us anything to spoiler stuff, and it can save good parts of the game/story as fresh for those that haven't gotten to that particular FF yet.

    I'm still wondering if
he was expelled from the academy, or that's just him enjoying a quiet fishing moment with his buddies.

I always thought he was brainwashed to join Edea, which would explain his actions. But it seems according to canon, he was just being a dick and everyone was okay with that in the end for some stupid reason.

I'm going to go ahead and be negative and say it's not what people think it is. It will never be that. I think there's a fan translation in the works, like with VC3.

Also, when it was Agito XIII I believe it was a cell phone game with card battling mechanics.

Actually some things there that sound reasonable, though it all remains to be seen if they'll make good on their new projections.

Still not sure blowing more money on advertising is the right idea. Smarter advertising should be the main focus.

Also, the mere fact that they mentioned Kickstarter will no doubt have people ready to toss money at them should the time come for a Chrono Trigger 2 kickstarter.

Maybe they can raise 30 million to kick-start the FFVII Remake. They could certainly amass the money if they wanted to.

Edit: Here's the cliff's notes version, taken from GAF:

-They want customers to be able to see development and communicate frequently like a Kickstarter or Steam Greenlight game.
-They want to monetize their games pre-release (and presumably more post-release as well, but that's obviously just DLC).
-They want to release sequels much faster so they can reuse art and technology assets more frequently, since when a console generation changes, those art and technology assets are no longer usable/notably less useful.
-They also feel that releasing sequels too slowly causes consumers to go find and play other games instead, and those consumers end up spending all their money on other companies' products instead of buying the next sequel in a Square Enix series when it finally releases.

Allowing consumers to help shape the development of their games, or maybe even greenlight them, sounds like a potentially good idea, as long as it doesn't require us to throw cash at them like a kickstarter. Then again, if it was part of some members only subscription that offered other benefits, I could see the appeal in it. Point being, giving us a chance to help shape their games is a positive, though this could also just mean "vote for which stupid costume you want the character to wear". Hopefully it goes beyond that.

I'm also fine with re-using assets for sequels, so long as they are sequels to games that are worth a damn. Reusing assets should also not mean "copy and paste the same models and enemies into the game because we're cheap fucks".

Also, releasing any kind of game too slowly is detrimental, not just sequels.
