First wait until they announce PS4 is backwards compatible with PS3 games.

I've heard talk from people I trust that it's very unlikely to be, simply because of the move away from the Cell.

We'll know soon, but I was assuming IMHO that the acquisition of Gaikai was for this specific problem. Sony's downfall with backwards compatibility was always with its unique, hard-to-develop architecture. If you streamed it as opposed to emulating it, makes the process a ton easier. If they can get a server farm running all PS2/3 games, charge a small fee to play each one, and link it to PS+... I think they'd have a goldmine initially on the PS4. It's just a matter of seeing if they have the smarts and initiative to get it up and running.

yea, ive been trying to catch one of them and one of the skeleton guys in the desert and they just dont want to cooperate. i think ive literally captured one of every other monster in both areas in the attempt thus far, and im getting pretty ridiculously overleveled too.

I got one of the skeleton guys but I really wanted the Little Bighorns because they look neat and I want to see what they turn into. But every time in a fight it's always the other thing that is impressed.

Hey guys who's in the mood for some mindless grinding!?

    After you get the boat
There's an island to the north of Ding Dong Dell called "Duckling Island" or something. On it are the first tier of Oliver's three story familiars...and something called a Toko. This game's Metal Slime. 2000 experience a pop.

Everything there is pretty decently powerful so be warned, but by the time you're 26 or so you should be able to handle it no problem. Probably sooner depending on your familiars.

I don't think there's much in the way of overleveling. As soon as the enemies started running from me, I know I was sort-of ready for next area; it turns out this works pretty well in keeping you transitioning from one spot to the next. So instead of getting your head kicked in, enemies are on about equal footing.

Which is good. It means you're ready for the next stage. I've yet to get in a position (even with the running away of enemies) where I was not facing enemies my level as soon as I hopped back on the gamestory trail.

Noticed this was on PSN for $55 and that PSN apparently charges me no Tax so picked it up a couple days ago there (since retails we're talking 67ish all in)

The game is 22 gigs, no problem since I have 25ish gigs free. Except I don't have enough space to download it apparently. I have a 80gig MGS4 PS4 with hardly anything installed. Deleted basically all I could and somehow I still could only get a few more gigs free, luckily it was just enough. So the game donwloads in 2 parts.

Finally I'm ready to play it later on except oh whoops I forgot you have to install things. It took 30 minutes to install package 1 and an additional 20 to install package 2. What in the hell ps3.

in game news, I was able to play for like 30 minutes, it seems neat guys.

Playing it now and it really is a fantastic game. It's really charming. Everything about it is extremely pleasant. There are a lot of things to collect and side-quests to do, but none of 'em ever feel like chores to me. And that's unusual, because normally I tire of such things rather quickly. The music is good, too. I can already tell the world map theme will go down as one of those tracks I listen to over and over throughout the years. Needless to say, too, the game is stunningly beautiful. I'm anxious to get to every new area just because I know there's gonna be some really good, new eye candy. Currently I'm making my way through Golden Grove.

My copy came in today. Strat guide still hasn't shipped. No time to try it. Did discover that my mailbox can hold a PS3 case, if the mailman is feeling extra ambitious, and Amazon ships it in an envelope.

Also, er, apparently there was mass fuckery going on with the Limited Edition? If I'm understanding it right, almost (literally?) no one got the Limited Edition, instead getting normal editions?

No, the gist is that a bunch of us had our orders cancelled at random, while others were able to order one after release. The whole launch of the Wizard's Edition was Digital River doing what they do best. There's also the eBay shop from Canada that is selling hundreds of copies at $400 a pop, but they seem to have bought the game legitimately.

It's been doing that since the day I bought it. It's one of the older fat models. I tried cleaning it but it wasn't even dusty.

It starts out pretty quiet but after a little while the fan just goes full tilt and doesn't stop. It's been a hassle.

I hate to say it but I'm perilously close to shelving this game. There's literally nothing about it that's really working for me. It seems, in the end, a very pretty, very by the number JRPG. It's not doing anything I haven't seen done as good or better in other games. It's not BAD by any stretch of the imagination but... meh.

i dont know why but buying the useless (?) ability to jump amuses me a lot. is there actually any purpose to jumping around during battle or whatever?

edit: also, is there a way to get enemies not to run from you or anything? i have to kill some florets for this errand and they haul ass when they see me coming and run faster than i can catch them.

Allegedly you can jump over certain physical attacks, but it's not really worthwhile. Like the description says, it's useless but fun.

Apparently, you'll get a spell waaay later that will make enemies not see you on the map so you can fight things that way, but it's still a ways off. I still don't have it. Just sneak up on them from behind or, if they see you, back off a little and they'll stop running and won't disappear so you can try again.

Probably not an invalid complaint; it's certainly one that was communicated through most reviews. The game is no new revolution of RPG'ing - it's just a well made one. I'm probably taking a small break from it as well so as to return fully in love with the game later. The little quirks prevent me from fully being on board (AI combat just doesn't get better w/o losing the craziness promised in battle), but I'll still finish.

Required to unlock more skills; beyond that - haven't seen a use yet.

Either get them in a position where they are pathing in opposite direction. Or, if you feel like you wont catch a certain enemy, immediately turn around in the other direction. They will stop running and you can try again.

you can stop the enemies from running by switching to the map with R1 and back. It makes the running mobs do a 180 and go the opposite direction for some reason. Works in the field maps and in dungeons. Doesn't work in reverse if they are pursuing you actively.

EDIT: As an aside, after I got got the ability to tame the first thing I did was go back to ding dong well and tame a danglerfish. The thing is a friggen beast when leveled up.

Bee line it to the town, run away from fights if you have to. Every encounter in that area is designed under the assumption that you have a second party member. Which you don't at that point. So just continue the story.

I would say the person just isn't leveled enough. I did not have that problem. The fights were engaging but not wipe-worthy.

I've slotted Oliver with the primary mana users, and the others have fighters with low combat spells for Tricks (which are swapped out whenever a boss is upcoming). The good thing about Tricks is that they are not level dependent. THe 4MP spells are still good in the right casters hands. Tossing GoGo out on the field (with his slow ass) and letting him rip a Bubble Bath and murdering a group of turds is quite satisfying (and he can kind of take a hit).
