Well that sucks, my game kept getting progressively more unstable as we got into bigger firefights and crashed at least three times. Hopefully a complete reinstall sorts this out because I was really looking forward to some Planetside 2.
Welp, glad it's not just me. The problem is that when I glitch out like this I also gain godmode which allows me to kill everyone but since I'm teleporting all over the place they can't actually shoot me. Which means I can't play at all for fear of getting /reported for hacking/exploiting.
Shit.
That has happened to me several times. It's a pain, and I'm not entirely sure it's the game's fault in my case (my computer is in need of upgrades, and my modem is almost 10 years old and doesn't sit in exactly the most dust-free part of the room) but sometimes it gets wonderfuly surreal.
Also, I'm pretty sure you aren't in god mode per se when it happens. In my experince, when everything looks like it's standing still and/or moving in the same direction regardless of buildings and terrain, so are you to the eyes of everyone else; usually the first thing to happen when everything "catches up" (starts jumping around) is I die from someone shooting me, even if I was running away from the combat at the time.
man I really cannot tell you how much I am enjoying the underbarrel grenade launcher. It's a guilty pleasure, but it's so much fun. Hopefully they'll eventually fix the rest of the mechanical problems with it.
Does anybody use the underbarrel shotgun? Is it worth certing at all?

I don't understand why people keep their visual settings so high that their framerate drops in big fights. Sure I have a relatively high end computer, but I would rather the game run fluidly than have it look its best. I seem to remember you and I having very similar builds, Tog. I keep most of my settings on high with the shadows set to med and the game runs buttery smooth even in the largest of firefights. If your game turns into a slide show in the middle of large battles, you should consider editing your usersettings.ini file to tweak things a little better. One thing that will really help in larger fights would be to lower the particle effects setting.

I had that exact same thing happen to me last time I played. I relogged several times but it didn't fix it. Everyone was warping/flickering around, mini map was going crazy. I didn't play very long, but while I did play I was absurdly successful, as I don't think anyone saw me where I actually was. I killed people until i ran out of ammo, even mowing down guys from the front with pistols while they shot at walls or something.
I've had that happen too, but in my case everybody else was rubberbanding around too. So I mostly just ran around in circles at TI alloys for a few minutes. The TR there seemed to have a hard time hitting me, but I had a rough time hitting them too.
After a minute or two one of them killed me and I just logged out, because screw that.
random question: did they announce at some point that some kind of re-cert purchaseable was coming down the pipe, or did I imagine that?

Nah, it's not just a matter of my frame rate dropping in big fights. This is an entirely different beast all together. My frame rate goes to 1 for a few seconds and then goes back to its usual buttery smoothness. Even outside of those fps drops the other CoA gents were commenting that I was teleporting and flying around all over the place while on my screen I was just walking around like normal. Apparently my Sunderer was doing it too and when someone was a passenger in it it was like riding shotgun in Buckaroo Banzai's car.
I did a full reinstall complete with a shiny new default userconfig that dropped all of my true ultra settings in case that was the culprit to no avail.
Also, I'm pretty sure you aren't in god mode per se when it happens.
Oh I am. Everyone else is running around perfectly fine on my screen. My game isn't behaving any differently from my perspective but on everyone else's screen I've achieved warp factor 10 and am occupying every point of reality at the same time meaning I can shoot mans and go on knifing sprees with no repercussions.
The upcoming faction rocket launchers (note: magazine/ammo is not final). According to the roadmap announcement, we can assume the VS will have a charge-fire mode, TR will fire a swarm of lock-on missiles and NC will be player-guided.
If it's anything like the Phoenix from PS1, it makes playing a MAX against NC pointless and it also makes playing NC frustrating as fuck when half your team is just sitting behind cover firing shitty rockets out at nothing instead of retaking ground.
Driving a mag. Kill a prowler. Driver bails before it blows up. "No you don't.." Magburner after him around a building. He dropped some mines as he was taking the corner. Fuck.

Sometimes you get the bear (with your floating purple laser tank), sometimes the bear, well, he gets you (with his shrewdly placed anti-tank mines).
sometimes, driving a lightning, I'll come upon a vanguard that just has me dead to rights. I used to try to run away, but that was usually ineffective. What I do now is drive straight at them, then bail out as my lightning cruises past. Then while they turn their turret around, tank mines.

Had some real fun last night as Light Assault. The recent "fix" for the popin issue makes the NC guns SO MUCH BETTER in large fights. By my understanding, it is supposed to show you immediate threat targets father out. What often ends up happening I think, is that I am failing to render for people at the edge of my popin distance. Last night I managed to get up to some funky places that were right on the edge of combat. With my trusty AC-X11 I was out-sniping TR snipers from my little hiding spot. I swear that most of them were just looking straight through me. I managed to find about 4 or 5 different spots over the course of our battles last night to just rain death upon my foes.
If you are playing NC, the AX-X11 is just about the best god damned gun in the game. You have to invest about 300 certs into the Compensator Foregrip and Adv Foregrip, but once you have those it's hard NOT to kill your targets. It has "Call of Duty" levels of recoil and spread. For about the first 10 rounds of the 20 round mag, it has no spread at all, only light recoil to counter. I have tried other carbines, but this one so perfectly embodies what it means to play NC. Hard hitting and accurate but limited mag size.
If it's anything like the Phoenix from PS1, it makes playing a MAX against NC pointless
To be fair, this is basically already the case, since MAX are really only used in bio labs and NC's hacksaw MAXes are probably 300% better than the TR/VS ones in there.
Got in a dog fight with 3 scythes and dropped all of em.
Feels good.
Learn to fly Vanu.
Happens on all sides. I was in a Scythe last night and ran across the worst Mossie pilot ever. He just saw another Scythe, lined up behind him, and followed, utterly ignoring me shooting his tail off. He never fired, just adjusted his aim on the lead again and again. He flew so bad I -missed- half my shots expecting him to dodge.
there's no way to rearrange the order of your guns/utility items, is there? My engineer is up to 6 slots with the underbarrel stuff which is getting a bit awkward. I could just unbind slot 3 (now the pistol), but then slot 3 is unbound on other classes and that's annoying.

This keeps happening, but I laugh every time. I am rocking Slug-Hacksaw MAX. Enemy Light Assault be steppin. He tosses a block of C4. My slugs detonate the C4 in the air, killing both the Light Assault and myself. That happened twice last night alone. I managed to get a rez both times too!
I happened across the Angry Joe review for PS2 yesterday. He made a very good point about "world events." I really don't play MMORPGs, so this is news to me, but evidently most MMOs have big world level events. Joe's idea was to have something like an alien invasion that all 3 factions would have to fight off. I want to take the idea farther. That hover carrier concept would make an awesome invasion scenario. If the 3 factions ignore the new threat and keep their focus on each other, the invaders could eventually lock out the entire continent. They would have to implement some high level AI of which the game currently has none, but it would be a TON of fun.
They could just make the invaders player controlled but put a cap on the amount of them so not everyone joined the invaders instantly :P
Implementing good bot A.I that would be fun to fight against would be a pretty huge effort for an open game like this and I don't think it's going to happen

I disagree. The BOT AI for UT2k4 was extremly effective and a lot of those maps were simply massive. It dosn't even have to be anything terribly intelligent. I think that swarms of small, weak, stupid creatures would work out really well. I can see it working kind of like this.
Giant ship slowly drifts from point to point across the battlefield starting with each map's "Crown." Once it arrives at it's destination, it starts "raining frogs." Only these frogs are the size of dogs and have razor sharp teeth. Maybe some of them explode on contact and others spit acid. If humans present, attack them, if no one left alive, cap the flag and take the base. They could incorporate Titan mode ala 2142, allowing players to Gal-drop and take it out.
World events would be pretty sweet. AI would be waaay too big of a hurdle for this game, but maybe auto turrets or something like that. A smaller group of players with superior weapons to aid. That would be fun. I don't see it happening, but it would be cool.
Given that time is something SOE does not have in abundance when it comes to implementing ideas, NPCs of any sort should not be something we see in the near future.

Hmm, looks like they removed AI NPCs from the roadmap. I swear it was in there right when they first published it.
Combining events styled after the mission portion of the UES with the release of new vehicles/weapons would be a nice carrot. The winning empire could have exclusive access to their weapon for a week before the other empires. At the very least SOE should have weekend long missions with different goals each week (Empire that holds the Crown, Eisa, and the Ascent for the highest combined time, highest number of roadkills or knife kills, the stuff ME3 Multi got right with its Operations, etc.) so players have something that generates story moments that can be told to others and something they can point to and brag about.

I'd just like some metagaming. Perhaps some player/outfit owned structures/territories or unique resources or something. The game is very lacking in that regard. Though I did read that they're planning all this at least
