Damnit. I keep popping into the game, enjoying the hell out of some smaller skirmishes, but as soon as I get into a big battle, the tanking frame-rate just makes me head-desk. *sigh*

Performance has been great for me lately. What are your specs and what are your graphics settings? Particles seem to be the biggest issue I have, as long as I keep those low or medium the game runs perfectly for me.

I'll try turning particles down, but I am running an OCed GTX 690, i7 @ 4.5Ghz, 32 gigs of ram, Samsung 840Pro SSD. Physx off, shadows low, Motion Blur off, audio channels cut in half of maximum, Ambient occlusion On, Everything else high/ultra, except render distance, which is set at 3800.
Go from 60-120FPS in 10-50 player fights, but as soon as it gets into the 60+ enemy player range my FPS plummets to 10-23 FPS.

Hm. I'm on a GTX 650, the same i7 as you, and 16 gig ram and a plain old sata platter drive. I'm smooth as butter most of the time. I do get some slowdowns in big fights but much less since the latest patch. I wonder if your overclocking is causing heat issues maybe.
as you move from a smaller engagement to a larger one the game will put an increasing amount of stress on your processor as opposed to your graphics card. Although I don't think a recent-ish i7 should be having trouble anyway
I'm going to guess that particle FX are the culprit; that seems like the main thing that would be scaling with the number of players around
ed: also note that the game will only render vehicle units out to a render distance of (iirc) like 2000 or something, so if you don't mind not being able to gaze at far-off vistas you could turn that down a touch

Yeah, I'll give the particle thing a shot. I know it isn't heat, since my CPU never goes above 37*C.
Hmm, particles certainly seemed to help. Went up to an almost solid 40FPS... Playable!

I'd be willing to support some folks in operations against our red and blue aggressors! Or if another server is more active I'll go where the people are.

So, apparently landing a drop pod on top of an enemy Galaxy will blow it the hell up, and get you a nice chunk of XP for your sacrifice.

Not sure how many folks are playing regularly. I'm on at least for an hour or two every day or two. Name's DerFleeb.

Been playing again, now that I can get remotely playable FPS. If I'm on hit me up for shenanigans

What's yer moniker?
Also for FPS issues, another thing, make sure your drivers are updated. Nvidea came out with new drivers like last week and that helped a great deal too. I was able to kick my particles up a notch and still get good solid FPS.
I have given up on trying to do air superiority in a Scythe and adopted Elvenshae's attack helicopter configuration. Considering I can't dogfight for shit, having both a light ppa and pods does not diminish my lethality versus Libs and gals while making ground attack more potent.
Black lives matter.

Yep - I basically look at it like, "Hey - I'm going to die if I get looked at by an enemy A2A vehicle anyway, so I might as well be hell-on-wings for everyone else."
And, occasionally, I can dodge away through mountains when I'm getting tracked by an enemy A2A vehicle, so bonus points there.
The key is really situational awareness - where are you, where are nearby sources of friendly AA fire, which ones actually have people at them ... Find a couple friendly Skyguard Lightnings is one of the best feelings ever.
Now, if only there was some way to get rewarded for your Scout Radar picking out ground targets which your allies neutralize. I mean, it's already fun to have some sniper playing hide-and-seek in the rocks above some base, and you just go and hover nearby and watch all the little blue triangles converge, but it'd be even better if you got paid for it (especially given the number of certs I've sunk into that radar ...).

This is really important. I wish I could get a platoon that had some dedicated AA I could communicate with during air battles. If I need to run I just have to hope someone in the zerg is equipped and paying attention.

I was just experimenting! He means nothing to me! He's only like battle rating 2! And he's on a whole different server I SWEAR Vanu is the empire for me! I just wanted to see what it felt like to wear red! I love purple spandex honest baby!
I tried out NC and TR a bit and it is not only weird but I seriously dislike how they play compared to VS. VS is the sweet spot for me. Don't you ever change you sexy purple spandex you.

Whoa, @Wulf and anyone else having FPS issues, try playing in windowed full-screen if you're not already.
I'm getting the impression from friends and family that they left PS2 a long time ago due to lack of interest. How does Waterson feel compared against that idea?

Still lots of people on, I never have to look very long for a good fight.
Lots of people to shoot at and with, but PA folk amongst them will be a rarity.
Yeah, that's unfortunately true.
Still, lots and lots of really good fights just about every night. I play ... well, I'm kind of on a MWO kick at the moment, so I'm playing less PS2, but I tend to still play a couple nights a week for an hour or so.
The Alert system has really improved things, except when they do the "Capture All The Biolabs on Every Continent"-type alerts, which just defeats the whole purpose, IMO.
I can't wait for them to fix this lock-on bug. I get impatient waiting for my flares to come back after I've used them while repairing just to get rid of the damn annoying false lock-on that won't ever go away. That impatience has cost me my esf a few times already where flares would've saved me.
Yep, still pretty populated overall. With the public platoon system and built in voice chat it's pretty easy to get into a somewhat organized team even if you don't have an outfit or if your members are not online when you play.

At least you have flares.

Actually, in general, I don't like Harassers.
More firepower than a tank, way harder to kill, and usually pack their own auto-repairs.

I swear, this game and MWO are both spiraling down the same trap of having no real persistent metagame to give a shit about.
Kind of a dull portion of development, but unfortunately necessary.
