I find Loki less annoying than little one from Bayo 1. By a bunch.

I never had to put Loki in safe bubbles or whack things with lamp posts because of him.

The out-of-body aircraft climb was kinda neat, though. As was the bit where you slaughter an entire room of angels to Fly Me To The Moon. But lampposts were ugh.

    I definitely like little Cereza.

    “Where are you from?”
    “I’m from my house.”

    Adorable. Love it.

Cereza is 1000% more cute, so she auto wins. I don't remember much of loki but I don't find him being annoying. The only character I don't like is Luca.

Also, is it me or is the frame rate in some of the heaven sections like 12 in bayo1?

Is bayonetta 2 the most fun action game? I beat normal and immediately started playing on hard. I don't remember doing that since maybe RE4...

I don't mind the weapons in Bayonetta 2 so much. In all honesty, I only ever used the sword plus Lt. in the first game and Bayonetta 2 I actually use more than 2 of the weapons constantly. Also skating around on Chainsaw boots is legitimately my favourite thing to do.

Beat Bayo, now on Chap 5 of Bayo 2. Really glad I did 1 first because I'm enjoying 2 exponentially more. I prob wouldn't have seen 1 through to the finish if I knew how much more I liked 2.

I'm finding everything that irked me about one, either refined or fixed completely. And since it seems easier in general, I could see myself replaying on a harder mode after I beat it. As opposed to Bayo 1 which frustrated me enough in parts to the point where I would prob never do that.

This is what I needed to hear to help push me through the final two chapters of the first game. I've enjoyed most of the game a lot, but there has been just enough bullshit that will make me want to never play this game again. I'm very glad to hear that the second is something to very much look forward to though, because what I love about Bayonetta I love a lot.

By far the worst aspect of Bayonetta 2 is that cutscene was never created.

Back on the Wii U I played 2 first, waited awhile and then played one. This time around I played straight through one and launched straight into 2 and yeah 1 is a great game but I swear the first time around I never noticed how much better 2 felt to play.

You know, I should actually equip a accessory sometime. Cleared 2 on Normal, but I keep on forgetting they're there.

Went back through and picked up all the weapons I missed... how did I ever live without the chainsaws? Those, with the Samus outfit, means it's time to RIP AND TEAR.

I beat Bayonetta last night. Overall enjoyed it a lot, but there was enough stuff that was annoying or made me angry that I doubt I'll ever be playing it again. Super excited to start Bayo 2 today though, and if it fixes most of my complaints I could see myself playing that one a few times, and trying to collect stuff in it.

And I gotta say, even though it's a port of an old game, it felt like living in the future playing a game that looked and played this good on a handheld.

Started Bayo 2 last night, and holy crap look at all that colour! This game looks so much more amazing than the first just from its use of vibrant and bright colours. Does this game allow you to save and continue mid chapter?

Yeah it does, if I remember correctly.

But it's been a minute since I've played

The first boss of Bayo 2 would be the final boss of some other legit good game.
The chapter 4 boss of Bayo 2 would be the final boss of some other REALLY GOOD game.

    Which one's chapter four? Glamor?

  • Options
chuck steakchuck steak Registered User regular
I think chapter four is the one where you're flying around right? That's where I finished off last night, and it was pretty damn amazing. You're right, it's kind of crazy that they just throw an epic fight at you like that so early and often in this game. And I hated pretty much all of the gameplay in the first game that wasn't the normal combat, but I didn't totally hate the surfing bit, so that bodes well. The lack of bad quicktime events so far has also been nice.

The first appearance of Luca was hilarious, and overall they nail the ridiculous tone in this even better than the first game.

    Yeah, that's Glamor.

I really really missed Odette in Bayo 2, but the dual-whips being foot-equipped beat the shit outta Kulshedra, so it's almost a draw. Still, Bayo 2 didn't grab me quite as tight as bayo 1 did.

Chapter 4 in Bayo 2 is called "The Two Meet", I think Glamor is the boss of Chapter 3?

I beat Bayonetta 2 on WiiU and that was kinda it. So, on Switch, I'm trying out Jeanne for the first time. Can she not go in to witch-time? I can do the bats thing, but her dodges don't activate witch-time normally.

    No accessories equipped either.

Jeanne only gets witch time from the moth within, which is her version of bat within.

But she does more damage than Bayonetta in witch time and gets a larger combo multiplier in witch time.

Yup, she loses Witch time except bat/moth within, and takes 1.5 times damage. Her weaves deal 1.5 times damage and she can dodge continuously.

    Huh, interesting.

It also sounds like she ends a lot of her combos by saying "Fuck off!". I think Bayonetta occasionally says "flock off"? I dunno, but I like that. Bam! Fuck off!

"Flock off" is a devil may cry reference. Dante once told a griffin to "flock off, feather face". There's also a cutscene where Bayonetta says the same to an angel with huge feathered wings.

And then later, in Wonderful 101, Blue tells an insectoid alien to "buzz off, bug face".

    Skull2185Skull2185 Registered User regular
    Yeah, I get that.

I just like that Jeanne drops the pun cause she aint messing around. Unless I'm hearing it wrong, which is possible :P

Wow, uh, long time since this thread got updated.

But since Bayonetta 3 is coming out in about a month, I figure it's as good a time as any to discuss the upcoming and talk about some of my hopes and concerns.

I think Bayo 3 is looking really good, with some neat new mechanics and some really wonderful new weapons. I just kinda hope that the difficulty is handled a bit better.

See, I've been replaying a lot of Bayo 2 recently, and while I know that difficulty is kind of an important cornerstone of this genre, I feel like Bayo 2 kinda doesn't hit the best balance for difficulty between its different modes. Specifically, in the difference between Hard mode and Infinite Climax mode. Hard mode is basically the toughest version of the standard story setup. What makes Infinite Climax different is that it's got entirely different enemy placements. You see harder and later enemies show up well before their intended intro sequences, and certain challenges are made entirely different because they have different enemies in them. Enemies also group up in completely different configurations than you'd see anywhere else. All of which is really neat. I think that switching up the enemy spawns is one of the best ways a game like this can change the difficulty, especially for what's basically new-game plus. But Infinite Climax mode simultaneously ups the speed of every enemy. And it's really significant. Animations that used to be tells for attacks coming can now sometimes fire so quickly that you cannot use them to gauge when the enemy is about to attack. Combined with enemies blocking attacks more frequently in Infinite Climax mode, and enemies can feel considerably more deadly than they were, even alone, in any other difficulty mode. They basically all move like they're constantly taunted. And I'm not knocking the game for having a really tough final difficulty mode. But it kinda grinds my gears that there is no mode that has the altered enemy spawns without the enemies being at hyper-speed as well. I love the replay value in the switched-up enemy placement, but the speed pisses me off to no end.

I'm just kinda hoping that Bayo 3 can strike a better balance between difficulty modes. By all means, give us a hyper-difficult mode where Witch Time is disabled or your HP is constantly draining, or whatever. But I would also like to have a mode with the switched-up enemy spawns common to the genre without them also being on 13 cups of coffee.

I suppose this was me reviving the thread just to kinda whinge about Bayo 2's difficulty, but I really do still love that game, and I hope Bayo 3 is better.

I do wonder if Bayo 3 will continue to have the amazing Nintendo references. Chain Chomp was a hilarious weapon in Bayo 2, and really powerful to boot.

I guess it'd have been nice if Bayonetta 2 had a remixed difficulted below Infinite Climax, but I didn't mind too much. Unlike the first game, I could actually beat the top difficulty in 2.

I recently did a playthrough of 2 on 3rd Climax (apparently renamed Hard in the Switch version) and afterwards loaded up Bayo 1 for a bit, where hard mode absolutely destroyed me.

Oh yeah. Bayonetta 1 is hard as a rock with the difficulty options. The torture attack tutorial is a mess in Hard mode.

It’s just that with Bayonetta 2’s overall more forgiving difficulty curve, I would’ve really liked a mode where I can get the remixed enemy placements without the game basically deleting enemy tells for some attacks.

I mean, even back in Bayo 1, Hard mode was mostly more damage and remixed enemies. Infinite Climax mode in both games messes with a core component of the mechanics (no witch time in Bayo 1, accelerated enemies in Bayo 2).

…I guess what I’m actually asking for would be for 3rd Climax/Hard mode to be more difficult? If Hard had been remixed enemies, and Infinite Climax had been Hard + speed boost, I think I’d have been fine with that.

nsic has both no witch time and faster enemies iirc in bayo1

bayo2 is hugely easier in many ways

its interesting because in bayo1 witch time is actually a training feature not a core game mechanic - the idea is to give you a safe time where you can execute combos and focus on your own actions - and to teach you enemy attack timings

on max diff you need to opt into witch time with an accessory and you do it for specific reasons eg to improve your launcher weights by one vs huge enemies with quick toggles

the problem was nsic needs you to be completely confident in fully dodge offsetting everything always and knowing most enemy attack patterns which is a huge brick wall. but it’s content for 200+ hour players which is so so rare in a game like this

and this ultimately is why bayo2 feels worse - they changed some enemy rules and things in a way that makes cool things you found later on in bayo1 not work without replacing the depth. its still a great game and some of the new weapons are great - bayo1 weapons suffer in variety from shared moveset syndrome - and new enemies are always welcome - but I couldnt get the same reward for mastery

Oh yeah, Bayo 2 has its own problems. Enemies blocking attacks whenever they feel like/whenever you have the audacity to attack from the front (fun fact, Afterburner Kick resets them to face you) is infuriating. And launchers having very little impact outside of Witch Time makes combos less possible to pull off. Enemies just aren’t as juggleable as they once were. And again, the blocking makes me less confident in holding attacks for dodge offset, because a block cancels my whole combo string.

I don’t mind a game more focused on using witch time and magic (via Umbran Climax) to get by, but there are some definite missteps. The only enemy remix difficulty being Infinite Climax is one of them.

I still love the game, mind, enough to replay the story endlessly and try out weapon combos. But I’m just hoping Bayo 3 addresses some of the issues I did have.
