I came back to this game to see how the netcode had improved. Hopped in my 4p with 3 LL in the hump. Picked the legs off a raven nice and easy at just over 300 yards.
Hmmmm, now if they could only fix the cowardly tendencies of pugs, this would be the best. (Most pug matches have the other side with 3 or 4 Lrm boats and my side just lets them plink at us, instead of hopping in a ecm bubble and wrecking their faces from up close.)
Oh well. Still robot explosions.
Someone was talking about a 4 LL k2 they had? What sort of setup is that?
I'm kind of considering getting the discounted Cataphract, but I don't really want to pay $10ish for it.
dammit! dont put a normal $ amount on it!
Eh, it all depends on how much you value your time. $14 for both mechs vs ~13 hours of grinding (@ about 1mil+ per hour)
I'd rather skip coffee in the morning and pack a ham sandwich for lunch vs the entirety of my gaming schedule for two weekends. Everyone's in different situations though.

pretty self explanatory. grab a K2, toss in 4LL, a big ass engine and a fuck ton of heatsinks.
Just spent dropped a little cash on some new parts:
ASUS M5A99FX Pro Motherboard
AMD FX-8350 4.0Ghz 8 Core CPU
Corsair 16GB DDR3-1866
Corsair 850W Modular PSU
4x Seagate 1TB SATA3 HD's
and a few other odds and ends.
$1300.
The ironic thing is that I'm probably going to spend all weekend assembling, installing, tuning, and burning in, and won't actually get any MWO played.

So tempted to spend $50 on MC. I want an Awesome, but I'm not sure the 8V is a good variant to get. Also, hero mechs. I would then be able to get one of those. But funds. Funds.

Its like Hydro said, 4LL, biggest engine and AMS because you can't fit anything else on... its sitting at the max number of DHS, although its actually not terrible on heat, on any map but caustic i can alpha strike 5-6 times before having to control my shooting, one or so more on the ice maps and not horrible amounts of controlled fire on caustic.
Speaking of builds, Whats the stock standard for the 4SP? i went ahead and picked one up since they are on sale, and i've got my founders hunch just sitting there collecting dust so figured i might aswell elite 'em...

4xLLAS, XL315, and as many double heat sinks as you can cram in. Get endosteel for weight.
the standard 4SP is 4 mediums and 2 SRM6s. you can change that up by swapping out with medium pulses or large lasers.
Hmm, do people generally XL these things? i'm pretty much thinking of that build with artemis/endo/DHS and a 260XL with a tag in the head because, why not?

You can. The -4SP is the only one even worth thinking about an XL with. Most people assume hunchies don't have XLs because if you lose that hunch, you'll probably lose your engine. Since you don't have a lunchbox, though, there's no "shoot here" sign, so you last a bit longer.

I ran my old 4SP with an XL because gottagofast. It's still good with the stock engine, but once you get the hang of driving the 4SP the XL really makes it shine. I highly recommend keeping a medium laser in the head because you don't know ultimate glory until you win a match due to that MLAS being all you had left and whittling the last enemy mech (which is an Atlas) down with it.
The J is goddamn worthless next to the SP, unless you want really want an LRM hunchback in which case I don't know what to do with you . The G and the H are fairly interchangeable. In the sense that once that right shoulder gets shot off (and it will) then all you're left with is a laser slot in the head and arm. If you want to do something whacky with multiple autocannons then the G would allow you more flexibility on that front. VIce versa with the H and it's two laser slots in the right torso ( Oh god why did you put them there PGI why?!).
I played around a bit with the H, and ended up going with AC20 with a MPL in the head and left arm and a tag in the right. Basically trying to negate the inevitable right torso destruction as much as possible. It runs fairly hot, but then if you're in a situation where you need to fire constantly you're going to be crippled fairly quickly anyway
Welp, spent the $10 on the discounted Cataphract. I really want to get a module and it would have been postponed for another couple of mechs if I didn't buy it.
Plus, it works out to about $1 per hour in time saved that I would have spent grinding towards it.
Weapon stats is the big deal for me. Can't believe it took them that long to get them in.
Shiny may have been an overstatement.
Having to hit up a third-party website to check range and rate of fire is inexplicable. The polish is nice; it felt like an over-designed Flash-based UI sometimes. Let's hope they made it a bit more responsive, too.
This is currently how I have my 'phract setup right now. Right arm: 1x UAC5; left arm: 1x UAC5 + 1x AC5; head: SSRM2 (might swap it out for an SRM4, though).
| Origin/R*SC: Ein7919 | Battle.net: Erlkonig#1448 | XBL: Lexicanum | Steam: Der Erlkönig (the umlaut is important) |
And,...check out the Cbills in that account! Lol....dev of course
EDIT: Nevermind....now I see weapon stats
What you may also notice is that the UPGRADE tab is missing and there is a new tab in the mechlab, likely meaning you can do FF and Endo Steel and Artemis all within the confines of the mechlab.

Swanky. I haven't run a 4SP since ES/DHS/FF went in. Good to see you can just run a standard now making the 4SP even more hilariously good.

Ambushed an Atlas from behind in my Sprinturion.
The Atlas had an LBX10 and 2 LRM20s.
And then a Jenner and another Centurion showed up from my team after I broke the LBX10.
Yeah, it was a pretty sad fight on a lot of levels.
EDIT: Seriously, just a shit-awful build. An Atlas? With only one weapon that works in brawling range? And it's not even that great a weapon? I wish we could vote to have MWO remotely uninstalled from other people's PCs sometimes...

Aka the "it's about god damn time update."
Hopefully fixing the UI up and making that stat information more readily available to pubbies will help cut down on all the shit fits out there.
I'm surprised I managed to keep a straight face while writing that.

Well hopefully about that time they do the machine gun fix they were talking about (making them do good damage against internals, still crappy on armor), which would give machine guns a place in this mech world.

Even that's hilariously optimistic.
1.) I am now realizing I am a massive derpy doo for not installing Mektek's MW4: Mercs free version on my laptop so I can play mechs during my off time at work.
2.) My record sheets are at the Post Office! Soon my slowly growing BT library will include all of the variant information for everything we could get our hands on. Awwwww yeeeaaaaah.

5ML
2SRM6 3 tons ammo
AMS
320? armor (not 100% sure)
fill the rest with DHS
