Yeah, putting the weapon stats in the mechlab really should genuinely cut down on the number of people who don't understand that LRMs are useless within 180m or why PPCs get crappy within 90m.
Not that it will keep bad pilots from stacking Atlases with LRMs, though. I imagine it would take the end of the human race as we know it to stop getting players who think that's a good idea.

Guys I realized the most fun part of playing a 4xLLAS build.
Running around and getting to yell NO ONE CAN ESCAPE THE QUAD LASER
If you do install MW4 let me know how the download/install went. I convinced someone to download the MTX client but the game wasn't showing up in the list.
What definitively is the Atlas Reaper Build? What is the superior Atlas Variant for it? I "think" I have gotten as close to what I can piece together on my founders Atlas but I don't seem to do as much damage as I would like.
Maverick s build is 360xl, gauss, 3x srm6 + Artemis, ES, DHS. And Ecm
I vary that with standard 300 and ac20 sometimes. Been having a hard time deciding the engine lately. Whenever I go with xl, I seem to lose side torso. Whenever I go standard, I end up with a couple of lights up my back. I am thinking of dumping the artemis and go with a bigger standard engine. I guess it goes to show the game is pretty well balanced if I am having a hard time deciding.
i was having a good ol time with the 4SP last night.
XL255 (is there no mech this thing isnt useful for?)
5ML
2SRM6 3 tons ammo
AMS
320? armor (not 100% sure)
fill the rest with DHS
my god is it a fun build.
Yeah thanks to you and a couple of other guys suggesting buying the xl255. I am liking the 4x a lot better now. 4 mil bills but at least I am not thinking of selling the 4x anymore. The mech I use least now is the ECM streak commando.
And,...check out the Cbills in that account! Lol....dev of course
EDIT: Nevermind....now I see weapon stats
What you may also notice is that the UPGRADE tab is missing and there is a new tab in the mechlab, likely meaning you can do FF and Endo Steel and Artemis all within the confines of the mechlab.
Aka the "it's about god damn time update."
Hopefully fixing the UI up and making that stat information more readily available to pubbies will help cut down on all the shit fits out there.
I'm surprised I managed to keep a straight face while writing that.
Well, you did say help cut down on, not eliminate.
Even that's hilariously optimistic.
1.) I am now realizing I am a massive derpy doo for not installing Mektek's MW4: Mercs free version on my laptop so I can play mechs during my off time at work.
2.) My record sheets are at the Post Office! Soon my slowly growing BT library will include all of the variant information for everything we could get our hands on. Awwwww yeeeaaaaah.

I did too. It hasn't been updated in forever and since it's the Official BattleTech Software the lack of updates have been causing problems with RS books.
It's a pretty shitty situation.
SSW is great, though. Just 'mechs at the moment, but it's up to date and even plays nicely with MegaMek most of the time.
If you do install MW4 let me know how the download/install went. I convinced someone to download the MTX client but the game wasn't showing up in the list.
That's because MTX's servers are offline for now until they transfer it off to someone else. You can find some of the files via old torrents they also used for people who didn't want to use MTX to download it.
I installed MW4:M from Mektek like a year ago, I dont remember the specifics but I remember the process being mildly annoying in that you had to download a bunch of specially packaged files and had to use their special software to decompress and install it.

Yeah it was last november or so the servers came offline and you can't even do it that way anymore. Its far more annoying now.

Some days Blue wonders why anyone ever bothered making numbers so small; other days she supposes even infinity needs to start somewhere.
Really? With the updated MTX stuff it works just fine with Windows 7 and the 16:9 resolutions for me. I can try to dig up the torrent for you guys since the game is freeware.

So have I mentioned in passing that my LRM catapult is a fucking FIRE MAGNET?
Just thought I'd say that...
Yeah, LRM mechs tend to have huge flashing neon "KILL ME!" signs.
On the one hand, that's good because LRM mechs can ruin everybody's day if left alone. On the other hand, it means you had better have luck or backup if you don't want to attract all the people keen to take advantage of all that weight you spent on LRMs and not other weapons.

This game needs a straight up Death Match mode.
Being 4-0, and then losing to four people who have 0 DAMAGE DONE because they just went straight for the base cap is fucking stupid. And just not at all fun.

Rather, I think it needs a King of the Hill mode so that the cap is in the centre of the map. That would help alleviate all the camping as well.

Yes, that would also be good. I just want to pewpewpew. Caps are boring.
Being 4-0, and then losing to four people who have 0 DAMAGE DONE because they just went straight for the base cap is fucking stupid. And just not at all fun.
The base capping has a point, it stops fast mechs (to be fair, mostly lights...) from just running off on slower mechs and waiting the time out for a draw/long drawn out boring win.
An idea is to make the base capture faster the less enemy mechs left on the other team, so with a full team it would be *extremely slow* even with a full team sitting on it, but if only one enemy mech was left it would be fairly quick... although this does bring up other problems, such as lights not being able to bait people on cap points but over-all i'd prefer that to the stupidity that is a match won completely on a cap were honestly no one really 'wins' because you get next to nothing from it.

Or do it as a function of "percentage of team" multiplier. So if you have the full 8, the cap speed multipliers work normally, but as your team gets smaller, the speed per 'mech goes up.

I maintain that Assault is still loads better than a plain deathmatch mode would be, especially now that personally doing well rewards players so much better.
Assault is pretty basic, but it still has enough of an objective so that the game mode isn't entirely "smash the other team with your team". Now that lights are far from being near-immortal, point capping gives them a definite utility beyond attacking, which is important now that they aren't ridiculous.
Conquest is the one I have issues with. While the gametype does allow for good objective wins (like the time my Sprinturion and a Raven beat a pair of lameass, but slow, AC/20 Cats through resource collection), it more commonly allows for a single light to put one team irrecoverably far ahead. Simply put, the resources build way too fast; I've lost games where a couple fast mechs won against almost-full teams because, even though enemy lost all their points but one but around 675, it was already too late.
I do expect Assault as it currently is to more or less disappear at some point, though, due to game overhauls or whatever. It really is a pretty barebones setup and the most basic gametype you could set up that isn't plain deathmatch; I imagine that PGI wouldn't really mind replacing it with something better once they get the chance.
For Assault, I've always said it wouldn't be as bad if it worked a tick more like World of Tanks where if you take fire, your cap stops. That way stopping a cap doesn't turn into a god awful point blank brawl and a light doesn't have to be a punching bag and stand on the point to intercept a cap. Instead a light can harass the cappers while the rest of the team lumbers in to help. That one change would help the game mode immensely and make it require a bit more thought.

I wouldn't necessarily like it that way, but expanding the "defense" area to be much, much larger than the "capture" area is an answer I would like to see. If an entire enemy team gets on that cap, there isn't even any room to FIT defenders, much less avoid one of those dumb toe-to-toe brawling matches.
But if the cappers had to stand in a little area and the defenders could stand in an area 4-5 times the cap area size (up to, say, 200m), then that sort of thing would play out very, very differently. Ranged mechs could very effectively defend and brawlers wouldn't have such a massive upper hand. Plus, far, far fewer times where nobody can maneuver around the terrain fast enough to even get to the cap in time; if the counter-cap for the high base in Forest Colony extended down to the base of the hill, that would be a huuuuge change. How many times have people been hoofing it up that hill and not had anywhere near enough time to get up there and attack the capper, much less actually stop the cap?
Though the map design on EVERY map is pretty crap for the bases anyway. I'm fine with a bit of cover, but almost every base is largely impossible to attack from beyond 40-50m away due to intervening terrain. There's always loads of crap in the way, which forces one team to physically walk all the way back to base, even if they've got long-range weapons that should definitely be able to drive people off the cap. About the only base that isn't totally horrible like that is the factory base for Caustic Valley; people can move into a couple of spots to avoid fire from an angle or two, but the base is way exposed, unlike the opposing base which is sitting behind a dumbass giant stone spire that blocks all LoS and shots.
That's a pretty good idea too that would help solve the problem. Either way, something's gotta give because the base capture mechanic is kinda butts. I've been enjoying Conquest more than Assault just because base races are impossible and the game seems to be less of a clusterfuck. I always feel robbed when I get base capped in Assault.
unthinkable had been playing a com-2d with 3 streaks and an mlas and an ecm. he'd been having some good runs in it so I figured what the hell, i'll roll in it as well.
we became a black ops duo. we'd run to the enemy base and start capping it. the enemy would panic and send back 2 or 3 mechs to fight us.
if they were light mechs, we'd kill them, if they were heavier, we just said fuck it and join our bros slagging a weakened assault team.
absolutely bamboozled the fuck out of them, for our other two oosik teammates and the pubs with us.
lord help me, I dont feel wrong or dirty about using light mechs or streaks.
Im... Im half tempted to get an oosik eight man together and have everyone run COM-2Ds. think about it... we'd have 8 ecms, so there is no way the enemy would be able to disrupt our streaks. our ecms would keep them from using streaks or lrms on us. and we'd run faster that the guasscats and atlai on their team.... we'd completely control the tempo of the fight. the only way they would be safe would be to group up, and one or two bigboys to defend their base would be shredded by eight COM-2Ds and all those streaks.
the only way to fight us on an assault map would be to keep everyone at their base... best case scenario for them... draw.
conquest would be even worse for them. we'd just move and keep control of the bases. if they decide to split up and hold 3 control points. we attack the group with 2 like pirahna and maintain 3 points.
dont get me wrong, the build we ran is completely glass and a double guass hit would kill you outright... but still it might be fun to kill fotm 70ton+ builds with a bunch of 20 ton mechs.
**************
the COM-2D build:
--upgrades: Endo Steel and Double Heat Sinks
3 Streak SRMS and 2 tons of Streak Ammo
1 MLas
ECM
XL210 engine
2 Double Heat Sinks (required due to engine)
Whatever tonnage left is armor (I recommend a bit more leg armor due to running so fast you'll literally rip your legs apart on bumps.)
this mech is *not* a spotter, it is not meant to fight heavies or assaults by itself. this mech is used to cap bases and kill light mechs. omg does it kill light mechs.
by capping the enemy base you are forcing them to send mechs back to deal with you. if they are lights, you kill them and keep capping. heavier mechs fighting you means less tonnage fighting your team.
if heavy or assault mechs come back for defense... fuck em.... go back to your team and fight what mechs are engaged with them. those fatty mechs gotta hike all the way back to the fight, and then you cap again.
you are trying to pull the enemy team apart to deal with you and your bros. if they dont deal with you, you win via cap.
and this gets better with 2 commandos working together. One, you have a buddy, that's another guy on the cap point. Two, you have another ECM, in case 2 ecm lights come back to fight you, jam them and kill em. Three, you and your commando bro are the equivalent of a streak cat. utterly menacing to solo fatties, and absolute murder to light mechs.
You are better off downgrading the engine to a XL195, gives you way more tonnage for armor/heatsinks and you are still running fast enough to evade just about everything.
Also, I was going to mention, if you absolutely cannot stand people ninja capping you for a win, then just stick with Conquest maps. If their team was good enough to stall you short-handed while their lights went and back capped you, they deserve the win.
yea, at double heat sinks, and the two required, im sitting at 1.75 heat efficiency... i group fire my ssrm's and and shoot when the timer is up and I literally cannot overheat on caustic before i kill my target. so heat sinks are fine... weaponry is fine... having more armor would be nice. I'll tinker with that when I get some more money. the arduous task is getting the basic xp tweaks for two other commandos so that I can get the juicy expert tweaks and be even more of a fucking asshole.
The other Commando's are fairly easy, you just load them with SRM4/6 instead of streaks, so many goddamn Ravens will just sit in front of you because they think their ECM will protect them from what they think will be streaks.
