although this is EO1 were subclassing don't exist. but still isn't all the party options one of the appeals of EO? it is for me, and it's why I prefer 3 over 4.

No dates or anything for a U.S. release? I've never played the first game, so I'd definitely be into a remake.
It'd actually be a great way to experience the original, because they're leaving the classic mode in but are having the upgrades to the conventions of the series implemented still (like map drawing and navigating the skill trees). I think story mode is just an attempt to see if people desire that for Etrian Odyssey 5.

Sadly, no news for NA yet. I don't think it will get the same speed treatment that SMTIV is getting. We will probably get it eventually. Keep in mind EOIV took 7 months (I think) to bring over and that didn't have VAs or cutscences. But maybe SEO's marketability will speed up the process.

Atlus is very into the fact that there's a NA following for the series. There's no reason that this game won't get a localization. It's just a matter of when. I'm gonna guess it won't get here 'til mid/late 2014 though.

SEO looks like a bit of an experiment of what can they change or add to the series. It also looks like an attempt to make EO more marketable (more products!). We have Persona 3 + 4 and Devil Survivor with animes. I think that SEO is reaching out to wider audiences by being more accessible (set characters, story focused, VAs, cutscenes). These features will not only grab a wider audience for the series, but will also make it a good pitch for an anime. From looking at the trailer with the cutscenes and the VAs, I'm already thinking that it would make a great one (I haven't played EOI yet).
A link of the SEO trailer that has the anime cutscenes in it. Someone has also subbed it in the comments.
Thank god for the classic mode though. That means SEO will get support from old fans (it immediately stopped my bitching haha) while still appealing to the mainstream.
And certainly, if these features work out well, we should see it again in the next numbered series. I really like the idea of VAs.
I want to know how the guild cards are going to work. I don't really want to see the same story characters on people's guild cards.
Edit: Nevermind, got it. It just dawned on me that I should have been suspicious of that puddle. I'll just use this chance to say that Dismiss Blast is the best thing and I don't think I could make it through HoD without it. I miss having a good revive, but killing thunder spawns before they can grow as well as hurt everything else is so useful. I had taken a break for like a month because I got so tired of leveling my characters back up, but it was worth it.
Which is no surprise, since it's done by the Etrian Odyssey guy. One of his earlier games. Apparently he still composes everything on the PC-88, the computer The Scheme is for, and was home to versions of the (Fa)Xanadu/Legacy of the Wizard and Ys games he worked on. The main character does look quite a lot like Adol...
I wanted to try a PC-88 game and that one seemed like a good place to start. There's an entire extra version of the soundtrack you can choose, so you can tell his music was a big deal. If you like good music and Metroid, give it a shot.
So what's the best way to level up in this EO4 post-game? I don't think I can beat the maze 6 boss at 77, and I don't think this last dragon I'm supposed to fight will drop either. Am I just finding the foods to make the mantises and bird in land 4 golden, killing sheep for formaldehyde, and then sleeping for 2 weeks until they and the dragons respawn?

Different types of FOEs in the open world take different times to respawn. The sheep respawn day to day, which is the fastest and not matched by anything else in the game I think.
Don't forget to hunt down bosses though, especially any end-gamey side-quest bosses. Use the one skill that boosts XP gains.
I'm thinking the best idea is to make the red dragon respawn so I can get his scales since they give an experience bonus. Then maybe just grinding it out in HoD? It seems like it would take less time to just fight things there and use Holy Gift whenever it recharges than to sleep a bunch of times for a few enemies to respawn. The dragons are worth 200k each, but fights in HoD can be like 25k-60k with Holy Gift. I'm not really at much risk of dying to anything there except fights with Red Lions, and that's only if my head bind circle doesn't trigger.

Yup, Gilder has it. Use the Red Dragon food drop (Fire Scale = increase Exp) + Holy Gift and kill the other post-game bosses and Land 3 & 4 FOEs. If you have enough TP and a good party, you can do a bunch in a single go. I do Iwaoropenelep -> Warped Savior -> Town (Or back out and finish off some FOEs). Then back out, get another Fire Scale -> Kill Blizzard King, Storm Emperor, Great Dragon -> Kill Land 3 & 4 sparkling FOEs (just keep re-entering maps). Once you are done, sleep for 10 days and the dragons and all the bosses are back up.
Warped Savior with Holy Gift + Fire Scale gives a lot. And is usually an easy kill. I don't bother with Fallen Dragon since he's more trouble than he's worth. Since Warped Saviour is too tough for your party right now, just do the dragons 2-3 times and you should be okay. It first took me around lvl90 to kill him and during that time I had a fairly inefficient team with no Imperial.
You can also kill the Sand Leviathan, he's worth a bit as well. I don't think the other quest/post-game bosses (Hraesvelgr) are worth much.
Sheep is alright for around 30-50, but you will find it fairly slow. They are good if you are aiming to get that one extra level and don't want to wait for dragons to respawn.
Has anyone figured out how to open that sealed door in the Moth Garden cave in Scarlet Pillars? I got no idea how to get in there.
It's a postgame quest: The Ominous Gale.
You get an incomplete circle-key-thing. Then you complete the key by talking to Land 2 & 3 town NPCs, and then talk to the Count. It completes your key, and you can enter the door to fight the boss.

Oh, looks like they're gonna be showcasing the story-mode's characters and what they bring to the table. The gunner girl is automatically my favorite because binds rule.
Quick random noob question - in what situations would you want to teleport to the nearest pole, or stairs, or the beginning of the dungeon rather than threading back to town? Having trouble understanding the use cases which each item.

Mainly if you want to maintain food buffs or something. Like if you're going into a maze to raid the FOEs, and then want to hit another, going back to town loses the buffs.

When you're attempting to dodge FOEs (or a boss) and get stuck in a corner, or simply cannot make the next move without engaging in a fight you don't want, escaping to the most recent stairs/pole is useful. Escaping the dungeon entirely is handy if you're just doing smash and grabs for gathers, or you're feeling really cheap and you're going to sleep anyhow.

Ahhhh, game complete. First time since EO1 I've been able to say that. I'm really happy that this final boss didn't have a nonsensical turn order gimmick like EO1 did. I hate that gimmick.

Or you know, pressing on into the unknown. If you aren't confident you can safely press onwards another fight, what makes you think you can safely make it out (Last stratum: Screw that, you can still get instagibbed by the evil flowers from hell)? Obviously, bosses are the exception to this, in that they are significantly stronger than the things behind you, but...
Just got to the 2nd floor of the Last Stratum. If those flowers from hell start showing up as regular enemies, I'm going to spend a lot more time crying hopelessly on the floor of my shower.
I hope you have a dedicated binder on your team, because you're going to need one starting on that floor. The bind circles + dismiss attacks on the Arcanist are absurdly good in that dungeon. Also yes, flowers are normal encounters on the second floor. They stop on the third though.

Luckily I've been rocking a bind arcanist since I got clued in to their greatness a little earlier in this thread. I have notice that, while the enemies in this stratum are pretty brutal, their HP is fairly low and dismiss blast cleans house for the most part.
Thank god those flowers stop on the 3rd floor. I unknowingly triggered the event with them on the first floor, assuming I could kill whatever came my way.
What we're getting it this is unbelievable I am shocked shocked I tell you I never thought this day would come take all my money Atlus because this is such a huge surprise.
