I wonder if they are doing a remake of 3. the first two didn't interest me, but 3 with better balancing of the classes would. I am doing a run with the following party to see how it goes:
buccaneer
bareknuckle monk
wildling
ninja
royal
I have to exploit a bug to get the monk to deal damage, but it costs you an armor slot so it isn't just free damage. they're doing pretty well in the second strata so far, but I can't remember does luck boost ailment rate? gotta get my ninja's petrify rate up

An EO3 remake would either have an extremely boring story mode cast or the most interesting one. I'd say that depends on whether they have a Pirate in the main group. Both for the "Avast, me hearties!" and for the drama between them and the obligatory ninja member.
I have beef with 3 over how it mandated gladiator subclasses for anyone that wanted to do damage, with the rare exception of a few zodiac options but they were still using charge so it was the same anyway. the only other option was warrior might which took an entire party dedicated to it. all the class designs are so good and they are so badly balanced. other than that still favorite EO
it doesn't use charge, which is why everything is centered around gladiators and zodiacs. you can also use an arbalist instead if you have a better crossbow
I wonder if Gun Mount's cost varies by the previous skill. Because substituting 2 TP for 50 TP would be nuts. But it could be that way if the Dragoon normally has very low TP.
Oh, wow, High Speed Incantation seems rather dramatic. Increase TP-costs to use the good stuff without cast-times. Alright, seems fair. It's a permanent passive, not a temporary buff. What?
I really loved my EO3 party. I completed all the post-game dragons with them and everything. Sadly, I never did go back to unlock the Samurai.
Front:
Yggdroid/Buccaneer (Super Tanky Swashbuckler with massive passives for accuracy, crit, more crit, and damage bonuses... with debuff skills to round them out).
Yggdroid/Gladiator (Super Tanky Massive Beatstick)
Back:
Ninja/Princess (Healer and Buffer, could double herself as needed).
Zodiac/Arbalist (Elemental damage and TP-free attacks for back row, and Elemental blocks).
Wildling/Hoplite (Super powerful summons and Tanking).
The EO1+2 remakes saddened me with how boring the story parties were.
I wonder what weapon-types Warlocks can equip. Magic Weapon uses the element of the weapon. I assume that includes physical types, because there's no mention of what happens if the weapon only has a physical type.
I finished everything but the 6th strata with a WM party. the big problem with 4 is every game is very samey because you only have 7 classes at the start. the only class I never used in a party in 3 was farmer because the one fight you need one for they give you one
Persisting Scent is interesting. Lasts six to ten turns. That's actually less than one TP per turn at level 10. Repeats a used smoke-skill at the end of each turn.
But it doesn't repeat the smoke-skills at the levels yours are at. Level 10 Persisting Scent uses level 10 smoke-skills. If that doesn't get changed before release, you can have any level 10 smoke-skill for one skill-point, at the cheapest level 1 TP-cost, with a speed-penalty.
Just to let you people know, skills are not the only new information. Though they're not really being spread much, spoilers of various natures do exist, now.
Turns out the Dragoon is a third class with summon-mechanics. There are only three summon-slots to share, though, and the Necromancer benefits from using as many of them as possible, and Hound can make good use of two at the same time.
Tank-Fencer, chain-Masurao, Cestus and Shaman seem like the ones wih the most prominent drawbacks. Necromancer could have a problem if a FOE can destroy ghosts too easily.
The scrapped race-idea looks kind of neat. Horned people. Varying number of horns. Portrayed with big, dumb Monster Hunter-swords.
I like that even the ex-Arbalest has a proper hawking-glove. I was too excited about the gunmounts for a while to notice stuff about other classes. Seeing some concept-art makes me wonder if the sharp bits on coffins are meant as standing supports, like digging-bars.
Wow, the buffing sound is pretty loud: "Give it all you goBWEE BWEE BWEE BWEE BWEE."
Anyway, I'm hoping this one's good. The fifth game's always the important one, because it's the one you can just label V, without any surplus I. You don't get another chance at that until X.

Wow, it's been ten years since this series made its debut. (ten and a half going by Japanese release date)
That's... wow. I still remember how and when I got the game. I was living in Texas at the time, which were the shittiest years of my life. While in Gamestop one day I was just eying the DS games section, and on the spine of the EO box was the Hexer girl art, which I'd seen via this forum somehow. So I picked it up on a complete lark, and here I am a decade later just frothing at the mouth at getting my hands on the next entry.
split screen maybe, I think I'd like to play it that way. dungeon screen right side map left side.

News!
Etrian Odyssey 5's North American release date is set for October 17th.
And good news for European folks. It is indeed being release there as well. No hard date yet. Also since Atlus has no publishing arm in Europe, it is being handled by Deep Silver.

deep silver? oof. I hope they're just distributing atlus' localization or something. Or no wait they probably need to localize it into a few more languages?
did Europe not get localizations of the previous EO games or what?

Oh, every class has alternate colours up, now. http://sq-atlus.jp/sq5/character/
If you're only using five characters, which isn't really necessary as there's an Exp. Share, might want to grab one of each race, though. They can make different events happen in the labyrinth.

Fucking hell I've been waiting forever for this news. Vague "this fall" timetable but YAY~
(I kind of forgot this series existed.)
How was the game received in Japan? Is it generally considered one of the better or worse entries in the series?

If you're curious, all voices are usable for any race, class or portrait.
As customary, the primary tank-class is good for soloing the game, in this case using the gun-specialisation.

Edit - I can't believe I let the announcement thingy slip by me.
