Can he really do this?
AnonymousA long time ago, I was a tester at a video game company in Montreal.
For some time, each week, we had less and less people on the floor. It was probably a good indication that the company was in trouble, but the real tip came when the coffee and hot chocolate machine went
from free to 50 cents. Our paychecks began to come late, and we even got the classic “The financing check is in the mail, we just have to wait” and “It must be lost in the mail.”One morning, I was busy breaking the piece of software I was assigned to, when the accountant busts out of the president’s office shouting “You can’t do this Don!” How bad is it when the accountant is shouting at the president in front of the whole office?
Three weeks later, on a Monday, I got a promotion. On friday, a special meeting was held. We all got envelopes, thinking it was our due paychecks.
“Those with thick envelopes are fired, permanently. Those with slim onse are for 6 months.”
I eventually got rehired… One morning, waiting for the elevator, a guy asked me to give the president a letter, and left as soon as I took it. It was unsealed, so, curious like a rat, I peeked. A partner was suing the company. I left the next Friday.
Funny thing - that place is still in business.

He looks just like George R. R. Martin IMO:
I know Quentin said he wanted to, and was cut off, was that it?
Just saying.

I believe Mike said in no uncertain terms in a PATV episode that he would do Cora. Of course, Mike isn't the one drawing her anymore.
Must have been the bottomless fries and whatever she had at Crumblebum's.
On the other hand, he had only said 3 words before Cora's dad found out he was Scottish. Might not have been enough to firmly establish an accent.
Q wears a utilikilt because he is an incredible nerd.
Although...Cora's dad frankly looks sort of like the utilikilt type himself, especially if he's supposed to be a sort of eccentric curmudgeonly fantasy writer as we have supposed.
And if you want to be a boy who wears a skirt, whatever man its the 21st century.
But be honest with yourself.
Naw, he's saying "you are Scottish, that is even worse than wearing a skirt"
...
It is obviously sarcasm. "Oh, you're wearing a kilt? If you're wearing a kilt, you must be Scottish," when Q is obviously not Scottish, therefore Q has no legitimate reason to be wearing a kilt. I really don't think this is that hard, guys.
This shall be remembered in lore as the "Q is no true Scotsman" comic/thread.
So...you really think Q is from Scotland? Have you believed this the entire comic? Because he wears a kilt?
I feel like one of us has made contact with an alien civilization.
Not that he thinks Q has no business wearing a kilt because he isn't Scottish.
Ed; to clarify, I don't think Cora's dad even thinks Q is Scottish, just like he doesn't think he's a girl. It's just that it reads like "you're Scottish, that is bad" rather than "you're wearing a kilt and you're not Scottish, that is bad."
yes
Oh, alright, that's more reasonable. I can accept a compromise position that Cora's dad dislikes both Scotsmen and people who aren't Scotsmen wearing kilts, since wearing kilts makes them look like Scotsmen among other reasons.
A. It is a real authentic kilt, not a utilikilt.
B. It is an official ceremony such as a wedding or funeral. Alternately if you are actively engaged in being a bagpiper.
C. You are not wearing undergarments.
Because there's been absolutely no indication that he is up until now, aside from the kilt, which it seems pretty clear to me is intended to be an ubernerd utilikilt.
As for his hair and complexion... his hair is brown. Most common hair color there is for white folks. I guess he is a little pale. Stereotypical nerds who spend all their time indoors working/playing in front of screens tend to be, though.
I think given the topic of the previous comic, it's possible her dad hates everyone and everything.
Perhaps the writers don't feel the need to indicate ancestry loudly since, for the most part, it is little more than a footnote in the make-up of a character? I know when I write I don't do a run-down of the exact mix of genes of each and every character. Scotch-Irish is sort of a typical element in the US population, I think. I wouldn't be surprised if Q had a bit, or even a quarter or sommat, of Scottish in him.
Of course I'm currently being pedantic and contentious as I don't think his lineage is material to the humor in the comic itself. It's just odd to me that you would make the case that he cannot be Scottish.
I am not making the case that he cannot be Scottish. I am making the case for Occam's Razor. Cora's dad mocking Q explains the facts better than Q actually being Scottish, given the complete dearth of evidence that he's Scottish outside this particular comic.
Granted I can see a person who is sufficiently nerdy to wear a utilikilt attempting to justify their choice on the basis of some supposed distant Scottish ancestry they claim they have. But I don't see any compelling reason to believe Q is a Scotsman in any more substantive sense than that,
So he's a fifth of Scotch?
