Warp drives are a wonderful thing. A mere 700 years after their invention, humanity has spread across 20% of the galaxy. This is an era of unprecedented progress and innovation, and the human race has only just begun to leave their mark on the universe.
But these are turbulent times.
The Regent is on his deathbed, and the Lords of the Galactic Parliament are deeply divided on choosing a successor. Hoping to capitalize on that, the Separatist rebellion has rallied its forces and begun causing chaos. Backed by greedy corporations looking to turn a profit, these anarchists are seeking to kick the Regency out of as many systems as possible to establish their own individualist ‘free state’.
Of course, rebellion isn’t the only threat facing the Regency.
While most alien life forms that have been discovered are simple and relatively non-threatening, there are... exceptions. Strange aliens with impossible biology and unknown motivations have been detected roaming the outskirts of human civilization. Contact has been attempted, but their intent remains unclear.
Just outside of colonized space, a strange anomaly has been detected. The Lords of the Outer Systems, with backing from the Royal Marines, have sent a newly commissioned research ship with a veteran crew to investigate. What bizarre phenomenon could be waiting for them?
This is the tale of the SS Phallatomic.
What the heck?
This is a Phalla, Penny Arcade Forums version of the party game Mafia.
This phalla takes place aboard the SS Phallatomic, a research ship sent to investigate an unexplored area of space where a strange anomaly has been detected.
This is a setting from my own imagination. I hope you like it!
This sounds interesting! May I please know more?
The setup is Village vs. Mafia, but...
This isn’t what I would consider a typical phalla. There is an HP system, Inventory, Map, etc.
Details on how these work can be found below.
Each player takes on the role of one of the crew of the SS Phallatomic as it encounters the anomaly.
General rules of Phalla can be found here
Each day, you must vote for one player to be killed. Votes must be placed in Bold Red
. The winner of this vote will be beamed into the reactor core, destroying them.
Tie votes are bad. Bad things happen when you try to target 2 separate entities at the same time with a transporter beam.
In addition, everyone should make at least two non-vote posts each day. Failure to vote or contribute will lead to warning and replacement.
Vote close is 11:00 PM Mountain Time(1:00AM Eastern Time). All votes and actions at 10:59 PM Mountain Time and before will be counted, while any submitted after will not.
Do not directly quote anything from PMs with me, or share screenshots of them. Paraphrasing is ok.
Do not anonymously contact anyone.
When you die you may make one ghost post which cannot contain any game related information. After that please do not discuss the game with anyone still alive.
Are there any special mechanics I should know about?
Oh my, yes
In addition to voting, every player may do each of the following every day:
Interact with a subsystem OR Attack another player
Use abilities(if the role has any)
You may move to a new location, following the lines on the map.
You may interact with a subsystem that is in your location. When entering a location for the first time, you will be told what interactions are available to you.
Some interactions will be revealed in the narration, but the player performing them will not.
You may attempt to attack a player in your location. If the player you chose to try and attack is in a different location, you will hit another player in your location instead, chosen randomly.
When making the attack, be sure to tell me what weapon you are using, if you have more than one.
Your attack will deal the amount of damage listed on your weapon.
If your attack kills someone, you will be given any weapons they were carrying. If more than one player is involved in the kill, the loot will be distributed randomly.
You may use any abilities you may posess, as described in your role PM.
Will we know who is in each location? How about who shot me?
You will not be informed of who is in each location. The total number of players in each location will be revealed in the narration.
The emergency lighting is too dim for you to know who attacked you, you will only be told the type(s) of damage(gunfire, explosives, environmental) that you take and your current health.
You mentioned something about a map of the ship?
I sure did!
Locations are underlined.
The asterisks show what subsystems are available in each location.
Allowed movements are shown by the green arrows.
That's all very nice, but what if I have a question?
Ask for clarifications in Bold DarkOrange
. You may PM me with clarification requests, or post them directly in the thread. If you have questions about your role please send me a PM.
What should I do if I wanted to contact someone privately?
Make sure you invite me and make me an admin of any proboards you might form.
Please add me to all PMs related to this game.
Do not add other players to existing PM conversations.
Anything else I should know?
This is somewhat complex and experimental, so I'm making no promises about balance.
Special thanks to @ObiFett
for some feedback on the mechanics.
Order of actions:
The vote does not trickle.
If there are multiple conflicting interactions to a subsystem, they will be resolved as follows:
For storytelling reasons only, each day will take place over one hour in the narration.
Can I get a sample role?
You are a (role name) aboard the SS Phallatomic, a newly commissioned research ship sent to investigate a spacetime anomaly that was detected in unexplored space.
I'm so down for this, how do I sign up?
Unfortunately, something went wrong. The Captain is dead, and there are reports that some of the crew are acting odd.
Maybe you have a cool ability?
Able to access advanced functions of:
Maybe you get to do cool things with certain subsystems?
Your starting weapon would be listed here.. Deals (?) damage to a single target.
A description of your armor would be listed here. You start with (?) hit points.
Victory Condition: Eliminate all threats to the crew of the SS Phallatomic.
Please make a post in Bold Limegreen
to sign up. If you would like to sign up for the reserve list, please indicate it in your post.
When you sign up please make up a name for your character and send it to me via PM. I strongly suggest that you don't make it something that could be used to identify you.
This phalla is designed for 30 players.
