Putting my two week notice in anyway. They're going to be confused because I told them the reason I was leaving was because of money and I needed to help for my kid coming in June. Oh well...

"Sorry, i was looking at it from an hours paid vs. hours put in perspective...that approaches zero the longer I work here."

I was gonna say. You're leaving because of money / work load.
They'd need to give you a massive raise for that to even out.
"I am starting a family, and yes, while I need it from a money perspective, I am massively underpaid for my responsibilities, I'm doing 3 jobs and using skillsets I don't even have and learning them quickly enough to be useful."
Which if they go "well how much do you think you're worth?" "At least double my salary for the kind of work I'm putting in as this is an hours paid vs hours worked, and a whole lot of unfamiliar territory which can get me fired even though you know I don't have the experience in it. Especially if someone's willing to do something morally dubious like fudge glassdoor reviews because it makes the company look bad, why wouldn't they fire me for messing up work I have no skills in that was assigned to me?"
Besides, that is like the de facto way to get someone to quit. Assign them a shit ton of work they hate/can't do.

I don't think the fact that, when I said "massive" I meant like 500% raise, came through
Also, I am getting used to the wacky shift key already. As expected, pinky is stretching further naturally now. Only thing I'm not going to get used to as quick is where the \ key is heh, not enough usage for muscle memory to kick in!
Good. You shouldn't worry about government contracting games. Lockhead will stop funding subcontractors waaaay before it starts cutting its own resources. Plus my experience is that they won't cut currently funded projects, they will just cut funding for new projects.
Guess I missed the point where ST2 was considered non-beta.
Yeah I mentioned it the other day when I say it is the main reason I haven't really taken the plunge to buy a license. I mean I'm all for slapping down $200 on visual studio releases every 4 years or so. But it seems buying a ST license for every major release is going to irk me, especially consider it's basically a fancy notepad++ that works on multiple systems.

If you have a ST2 license the upgrade to 3 is $30 which is still a touch more than I would have preferred ( 20 ) but I expect I will stay pay it.

e: Apparently not, it's 15 bucks for me because I bought my ST license recently. Meh, not really gonna fret over it.
I wouldn't mind giving some money to the Sublime people, but $70 is a bit much for something I mainly use as a text editor. It's an upgrade from Notepad++, but it's not $70 better for that purpose.
I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

LinkedIn says I have one of the top 10% most viewed profiles of 2012. Did they just tell everyone that or do I really?
I didn't get one.
I do like getting those $20 amazon gift certificates every 2-3 months though!
What? I want a $20 amazon gift certificate. Damn. That's way more useful than being looked at a lot on linkedin but still not getting awesome jobs.
I get offers occasionally to do surveys for linked in. Usually a $20 jobber. I did get $50 once.

It actually is 70 dollars better than NP++. NP++ is a bloated piece of shit. It goes against everything a "lightweight" text editor should be. If I wanted something that heavy weight, I'd just load up Visual Studio.
Got an interview for a software engineering graduate programme on friday. Incredibly nervous right now.
This was just a first stage phone interview, but anyway, did it this morning, then got a call back a couple of hours later saying I'd passed, which is good.
I've got another phone interview on monday which they've said will be much more of a technical grilling than this one. *Gulp.*
If I pass this second interview I'll be up for a graduate placement working in network security stuff, which would be pure awesome. And it is my understanding that even if I don't get through this second interview, I'd still be invited down for a face to face interview for the bog standard software engineering graduate scheme.
So either way, I'm pretty pleased with today. Gotta spend all weekend brushing up on the stuff I'm supposed to remember from my OS and networks modules last year.
I'd expect something like this for like $40 maybe. I guess the designer is banking on the few people paying it will subsidize the rest of us that use it for free.

$60 was pretty high, but that's about what TextMate cost, and since ST runs on multiple OS's I can get on board with that. Especially when I turn the cost in as an expense to my employer...
$30 for the upgrade is a bit much though, and $70 would have pushed it over the edge for me and I probably wouldn't have gotten it.
Which is super-nice. Definitely one of the nice things about buying software from small shops: they're pretty understanding about letting you use a license on your 2 PC's and your laptop and your VM and...
Yeah but then because they're Small Business you have to pay for every little thing.

I always find it funny when people are like "60 bucks is totally fine, but 70? You know, fuck that". 10 bucks barely covers lunch at McDonalds, and people are going to fret over that in terms of a tool they'll likely use for hundreds of hours?

Always been an odd mindset to me.
I think McDonalds is ripping you off...
And yes, since I already considered $60 to be "pretty high" an incremental increase to $70 results in "no thank you, I will find another editor."
Not caring about what you spend on your tools has always been an odd mindset to me.

It's a case of the straw that breaks the camel's back.
It probably also greatly reflects income levels. Someone making $80k+ a year probably doesn't give a shit about dropping $70 on something they use frequently. Someone making $40k or less does, or at least, makes a lot of noises and saves up after a few months.

i make 75k and $70 still feels like a lot? I just feel that as great as it is, it's a luxury. I could do the same stuff in vim (to an extent) if i wanted to, but it's easier to do in ST2.
Granted that may change if I used ST2 to it's full extent, but right now it's just a text editor that doesn't require me to press esc+: every time I want to do something.
I mainly based it on around double my take home. I know there are some wealthier people on this forum, so that's where it came from. I can't remember where Gnome fell but I vaguely recall him and another getting tag teamed in D&D for making over 100k and not considering themselves "wealthy."

Huh. Maybe I'll have to start reading more of my linkedin e-mail rather than just deleting it right away.
Maybe I should finish my profile.
And get some connections.
