Why are there so many quotation marks around June?
The title used to be "Early Access Soon," then like a year went by, so I changed it to "Early Access "Soon"" and then "Early Access """"""Soon"""""" when it was again announced that this time for real it was coming out soon. Then it was announced that it would come out in early access in June so I changed Soon to June.
IT'S SO GOOD! Totally worth the wait. Everyone get it
I'm seriously impressed at how tight the gameplay is. I read his blogs and stuff about how he was focusing on it and I've seen gameplay footage, but it's just so amazing when you have it in your own hands and can feel it. So good!

You rolling with a pad or stick? The vid review earlier in the thread mentioned mapping controls to a stick, but I'm wondering if I wanna take the time or just be lazy and go with a pad.

Yay, sat down with this for a bit. Initial impressions:
1) Unless there was some way to pop in default binds that I overlooked, I had to manually bind everything to my stick, it started with nothing, though it was able to tell me what stick I had plugged in.
2) If you have a stick plugged in, the game won't bother telling you about keyboard-bound commands, even if the command in question isn't bound to the stick.
3) Probably related to the fact that I had a stick plugged in, the mouse was generally unable to be used to navigate the interface. By which I mean it could hover over buttons and map nodes and such, but clicking did nothing.
4) I had to bind my trigger to "menu confirm" to be able to actually select a mission because enter was bringing me to the main menu.
5) The game is pretty fun once you get past the UI issues.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Yep! I'm just using my 360 pad, since that's what the game seems to have been designed around. Works real good for the most part.
Warning for HOTAS users - if you have a HOTAS that shows up in windows as two separate controllers (e.g. the Saitek X-55), it looks like the game will currently only let you use one or the other, but not both simultaneously.
You can kill flagships. I'm currently stuck on an escort mission that I believe is bugged out. I get the capital ship to the warp point or whatever and it refuses to jump. Even after a flagship warps in, the ship I need to escort just sits there. Therefore, I've killed a flagship on both times I've attempted the mission.
Also, this game was designed around a 360 pad, so you are 100% good to go playing with one.
Are there no counter-measures? I seem to be able to avoid missiles at range if I boost directly perpendicular to them, but that doesn't work so well when I'm trying to close the distance with whoever is shooting them at me.
I must say, I'm really digging the feudal age theme to the lore. I wasn't super plussed with the name change, but now that I'm reading some of the lore I think the new name fits a lot better. Really reminds me of Dune, and I love that shit!

You can target the missiles and shoot them down just like in X-Wing/Tie Fighter. No countermeasures I know of though.
The missiles also aren't super maneuverable so you can get them to impact asteroids if you fly close to their surface. I imagine this could also work against enemy capital ships but I haven't tried it yet.
You can lock onto them and shoot them yourself. Just boost away, hold your drift key, and swing around on 'em. Kinda hard to get them all, but you can at least save yourself.
Yeah, what he said ^

spent the evening beating the game on normal difficulty and getting all the bonuses along the way. what a great game (although i'm not sure I realized it was a shorter game that you sort of replay 3 times, not that there's anything wrong with that).
Some familiar names in the credits under game testers!!
Woo, he found the setting to allow more than one controller binding per player, and will look into getting that in. HOTAS users rejoice!
I hope it's as simple as just upping the number of controllers available, because while the game looked beautiful in VR for me, having to go into control options to switch controllers depending on whether I wanted to go fast or steer was a bit silly.
Game is good fun. If I were to levy any criticism it would be about friendly AI. All my dudes tend to die horribly in just about every mission on normal.

Woo, patch that just landed claims to have fixed one of the UI issues I noticed in my initial sitdown (the mouse/joystick input flickering thing)

GAP DRIVE IS FUCKING AWESOME. So worth the trouble of going back and doing missions on harder difficulties. Also if you do a higher difficulty mission, you get all the lower rewards too, so that's convenient.
Bought and downloading. Set a timer on my phone before I bought it so I only get a taste, but oh how do I relish payday next week.
edit: Well that was fun.
Had to shut the graphics down to low so that the ships wouldn't appear all white, literally, every ship was white.
Kudos for having graphics samples in the loading screen for me to gauge my rig's ability to run it.
Quite smooth for a new game on my old PC in battles, at least until it came to fine aiming.
The strategy thing was intuitive to figure out, nice that I could string together commands, and I see myself really enjoying figuring out a strategy in the future, but the MOUSE WHEEL. Zooming in and out on the strategic layer is quite funky and needs a closer look.
I would have loved the piecemeal randomized mission structure he started out creating, but these are some intense fights and dammit, everything feels great.
Rebate request sent, game uninstalled, looking forward to payday.

Yeah, I'm having troubles with the Cleric mission. Every time I try it my wingman dies to those dang turrets, or flies straight at the Cleric and gets hit with a salvo of missiles.

Because, first the game was coming soon.
Then, it was delayed a bit, so it was coming "soon."
Then, in the natural course of things, that became ""soon.""
Add a couple years, and the game's still coming out """""soon""""", but then an actual release date was announced for """""June""""".

Though I'd keep a mouse handy if you want to be able to select things in the tactical mode without getting frustrated.

Still getting used to some of the controls and seems to need some tlc with joystick/mouse/keyboard interactions.
