@jasconius is the region messed up for you too? or anyone else? i haven't been able to load my city for days
i was just coming here to post about this
i logged in today and played for 20 minutes, then it came up with a message saying "sorry, your city is not running correctly, we need to roll back your city to fix it"
so i was kicked out for 3 minutes, came back, and everything I did since logging in was reverted
something seems whacked
first time since buying it that something has caused me a major issue

Good lord but Need For Speed: Most Wanted makes a bad first impression.
Really, game, an unskippable intro? Featuring mostly stuff you could easily tell me while I'm driving? Then you have me drive to my first real car and spend ages on explaining straightforward stuff to me like I'm an idiot, again unskippable. "Select the next event to choose your first race." Got it. "A marker will appear on your map." Kinda figured, but fine. "Drive to that marker." The fuck did you think I was gonna do?
Get ten seconds into the first race, game crashes. Screen goes black, sound still goes, nothing I can do but Ctrl-Alt-Del out of it. Start game up again...
Really, game, an unskippable intro? Again? Everything? Again?
No crash this time, wins race, another longwinded explanation about how I need to press right on the D-pad and then I'm smacked in the face with not one, not two, but three separate DLC ads that I have to button through before I can actually start to play the game. Or in this case, quit the game.

haha yep this was exactly my experience
i was so disgusted at the first car i found booting me to a browser in order to 'buy the dlc pack containing this vehicle! £7.99!' i quit and uninstalled

I'd like to give Need For Speed a chance, but out of the three times I've played the game now, twice I ended up with a black screen and sound still running that I had to Ctrl-Alt-Del out of, once I was DLC-ad cockslapped into quitting.
Total playtime, not something that Origin shows. But probably less than 30 minutes.

From your posts it doesn't sound like you gave the game any sort of chance at all so I am hesitant to follow your advice.
I've played it a bunch.
It's fun online if you have a bunch of friends to play with, the single player feels very lacking and kinda lifeless.
There a bunch of really horrible user experience choices made, like the above mentioned unskippable cutscenes, problems getting back to a point to reset a race, and a bunch of clunky menus.

yeah so i can't load my city at all now
i started a new city in the region, and i can't even load my old city to visit it
if you look at the region there's no buildings or anything
e: Why does the trade port send things out of the city by truck?

Wait, why did they disable cheetah speed if calculations weren't being made on the servers after all?
Also Need for Speed isn't that bad. Yeah I think shoving DLC cars you can't drive into the game with all the other cars is a pretty shitty thing to do, but the multi is fun as heck.
The cops in the single player are really awful though

so
I guess there is that
it's pretty bad
cheetah speed means the servers have to sync with games more frequently, so even if you have it set lower the game still has to poll every city in your region much more often
mind you given the minimal amount of "online" that simcity is actually doing, this should still be a pretty trivial thing to get working
but as you know this simcity has problems with all that

EA seems to have created a magnificent schadenfreude simulator.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Now that the free games are no longer available they seem to have knocked $20 off this game on amazon. If you are looking to buy a half broken game for 33% off now is your chance.

there was a brief period where you could do both, but that's still not enough to get me to play this
Argh, I can't not make cities with square road grids.
And I'm always tempted to separate residential and commercial from industrial by the entire width of the plot. That usually leads to humongous clusterfucks of traffic on the single road I have going to the industrial sector.

imagine the computing power we'll have soon enough. simulating an entire city, in real time, with millions of little lives and little stories, and families and friends meeting, and traffic accidents and whatnot. it's not far off.
and then we all die of starvation after watching one intersection forever.

its not far off, supercomputers can already simulate realtime traffic in large cities

I mean more as "oh this is such a minutely accurate simulation that it is basically indiscernible from the real world."

Computing power, what, doubles or so every year?
It's a bit much, yeah.
at this point there's not very many more consumer CPU advances that can be made other than adding more cores.
problem is you still have to program it for the poor bastard running a Celeron

Except they couldn't do that.
