It's fun and there's a lot of variety in the characters, but I too feel like its missing the meat. Although I haven't see the higher level areas. There's not a whole lot to do in each area and with so many people, minus the world bosses, there's no real danger in dying. Although the instances are nice.
Black panther felt a lot like daredevil to me in ways, and can't say I clicked with either.
Is thor melee, ranged, or a bit or both? Was thinking of taking him or colossus out for a spin.
Definitely go with Thor, imo. Colossus is pretty dull, and I'm already regretting grabbing him in my starter pack. Thor can be built in a few different ways, is pretty tough in his own right and has a nice mix of ranged and melee abilities.

Ya I'm trying out thor now and he's pretty awesome. Seems like a lot of fun, and like you said can be built in a lot of ways. Was looking through and he seems to have a few different ways to play range, melee, or a hybrid.
Can you request a change for a different starter pack? Maybe they'd let you. Thor's one expensive costume is pretty cool. Not sure it's as cool as classy hulk though
You don't get your bundle items until your head start date.
Thought it might be something like that. Still having fun though although I got frustrated looking for Taskmaster in the NJ Docks yesterday. So far the only feedback I would have is that balance needs to be tweaked but I'm sure they are aware of that.
Ive played quite a few other the characters the last few days.
I got Cyclops through the end game content and he is an absolute monster as currently designed. Even with two of his three power trees really badly designed, he is one of the highest DPS characters available.
Thor seems off to me. Its like hes a ranged only character. He really needs a powerful melee hammer swing special move similar to Colossus swing at level 10. Something that hits HARD in close. His lightning destroys trash mobs but he doesn't seem to have that one go to ability to use on bosses.
Yea, they really need to work on some kind of way pointing system.
That or else let you zoom the map further out so you can see where you need to go.
Also, are the maps for stages semi-random? I could have sworn I've seen two separate layouts for Hell's Kitchen.
The public zone layouts are randomized daily. It's annoying to me but the devs said they did it on purpose to try to help keep multiple playthroughs fresh. There is a pointer on the mini-map for your current quest and also one for any raid boss that has spawned, but both seem to be bugged and randomly turn on and off.
Took Colossus out for a spin. I'm really getting more and more impressed by how different characters feel. I'm trying to figure out why the fuck Colossus is literally ignoring the enemies opening ranged fire and after poking around he gets a regenerating Armor pool. I know Captain Marvel can get "charged" by energy attacks and the Red Witch has some kind of reality bending bar. There nice touches.
Though Colossus is such a slog. He is exactly what you expect, a big durable tank without much finesse. Blech.
I wonder if co-op moves are in the future. Think X-Men's many variations of the "fastball special."
I tried Jean Grey. I'm not sure I get how to build her up. Phoenix Form is cool, and the first tempest you can use in that form is neat, but both seem to be made for crowds and she doesn't seem well-suited for dealing with crowds. (Not sure if I made sense just now.)
Anyone take Hawkeye up to higher levels and can give their opinion on the character? He seemed kind of blah to start, but after gaining a few levels he's been growing on me.
Cyclops, I'm not sure I get him either. Can you get through just building up his optic blasts and neglecting the melee stuff?
And speaking of building, is there a max level stated for each character yet? How many power points will you eventually get? And is there a limit to the number of points you can put into a skill?
Lastly, the spirit stat. Does your spirit regen go up the more spirit you have? Or are the two not related?
The current max level is 35 (mobs only go up to 28). Devs said they haven't decided on what the max will be for launch yet.
Not sure about the spirit regen, but there's plenty of gear that gives +spirit gain/regen so it shouldn't be much of an issue at higher levels. My level 28 Iron Man has both +spirit and +health on hit gear so I can pretty much spam repulsors almost non-stop while keeping health at cap.
Cyclops, I'm not sure I get him either. Can you get through just building up his optic blasts and neglecting the melee stuff?
I played an optic blast cyclops just fine (up until mid 20's when I stopped playing him)
Seems viable, at level 10 you get Ricochet blast which makes everything better.
Lastly, the spirit stat. Does your spirit regen go up the more spirit you have? Or are the two not related?
This is something I have been trying to figure out as well, if regen was a % of the total or a flat rate.
Lastly, the spirit stat. Does your spirit regen go up the more spirit you have? Or are the two not related?
As far as I know, I believe your character's energy projection stat gives a bonus to spirit recovery if you have a rating 3 or higher stat. I don't think the spirit stat's recovery scales with the size of your spirit pool. At least not that I've noticed playing in any case.
The spirit on kill on everything but bosses scales better than the "on hit", with rocket racoon I can use his channeled ability indefinately, and with ease.
Also the kill works with any ability, on hit is only basic... I think it all just depends on passive regen too.
Certain skills are capped where they fell they need to be capped, like passive defensive abilities will sometimes cap at 15 points which can happen really early. They also do the scaled "less than x for y level" to keep you from pumping all points into things at once.
Based on the current state and drops, how possible is it to really play this game without spending any money and get the characters you want? My only comparison is to League of Legends where I spent $20 and got a bunch of characters and some in-game currency, plus rotating characters and a way to earn them. $20 for one character seems a little steep. For example, My favorite character of all is Spider-man. How long would it take me to get him without spending cash? Also, is the Iron Spider a costume?

That reminds me- I'm assuming character stats are fixed. Is that right?
If you are in beta or in weekend test, they are completely replacing the game client today (about 3 pm PST), so you will need to redownload/patch. Says the client size will shrink by about 2 gigs. Game will be open to testers from Friday 12 pm PST to Monday 12 pm PST with no downtime.

EDIT: I did just finally sign-up on the site.
You get 1 of 5 starter heroes free, and 100% of heroes and 99% of costumes drop in game. I get costume drops in the 20s fairly often and had a hero drop off a regular mob in last play session (Iron Man). Hero pricing will most likely be $2-$10 depending on popularity, with costumes being around $1 to $5. If you buy any of the founder packs you will get enough to buy at least a hero and a costume or some boosters. Final pricing has not been set yet, so things can (and probably will) change, but for the moment it looks like $10 = 1000 Marvelbux.
That reminds me- I'm assuming character stats are fixed. Is that right?
Not exactly no. Originally, I believe you could only increase your character stats by adding a crafting core to your costume which gave it a specific stat boost. Recently however, they've implemented an attribute advancement system. Characters gain in certain attributes (varies per character) at specific levels.
Beta this weekend, they sent me a multiple use key:

It's a weekend test, runs through to Monday evening.
I assume everyone here is already playing, but thought I'd post it, just in case.
Devs said more inventory space and "options" (paid extra tabs) coming with next content patch.
Inventory space wouldn't be that much of an issue if crafting particles stacked, but if they're hoping to make some extra cash peddling inventory expansion, then I can see why that won't ever happen.
1. I grabbed Ms. Marvel and the Captain Marvel outfit, because hell yes Danvers and hell yes pants. I was amused that the skin cost more than the hero unlock.
2. The power trees are pretty cool for her, a brawling/melee tree, an energy/ranged tree, and a FLYING tree. It looks like she's about melee rushdown with some SERIOUS defensive moves, she's got an active block that absorbs 80% of incoming attacks and a huge amount of defensive buffs in general. The energy blast attacks don't seem to fit in quite as well, but they fit the character, and it lets you play a blasty tank from range if you really want. However, Cosmic Uppercuts beckon.
3. HOLY SHIT YOU CAN PICK UP CARS AND THROW THEM I LOVE THIS GAME
I just finished wiping the floor with Shocker solo(is he meant to be fought with a group? The quest text implied so,) thanks to an Avionics power that lets me rush through enemies and do a bit of damage to constantly stay in the back arc. It was fun. This game is really just Marvel Ultimate Alliance in a F2P style, and it's fantastic.
You can solo pretty much most of the content depending on the hero you are playing. The bosses in the public zones have a ton of hp, and I believe they might scale to the number of people in the zone. The only boss fights that were a big time pain in the ass are Kingpin (summons two sub-bosses plus tons of adds) and Dr. Doom (final boss, lots of super bullshitty attacks).
Just a note on this weekend's test, if this is your first time playing, they jacked up the in-game store prices to the high end. Last week no hero was over 960 points and no costume was over 600 points. This week Deadpool is 2000 points and other popular heroes are 1200 points. I see several costumes in the 1000-1200 point range as well. They keep moving the prices around trying to find the sweet spot for launch and are tracking players buying behaviors during the tests. As a repeat of what I've said before, it looks like $10 = 1000 G points. Having been in beta since January, I can say they really seem to like the 960 and 1200 price points and I would not be shocked to see some of the costumes hit the 1000 point range at launch.
During a live stream this week with the lead dev when they were talking about hero and costume drops I asked if you would be able to break down duplicate costumes for crafting mats. They said no, as their reasoning is you will use your extra costumes for alternate stat specs. Also, they said heroes and costumes will not be tradeable when the auction house opens (post launch). They are however debating whether to allow store purchased hero tokens to be tradeable.

It comes down to what the hero's defenses are like. If you have any kind of decent defense then you'll likely do okay against most bosses with the exceptions of the ones mentioned by Dirtyboy. If on the other hand, your character is soft and squishy, then high damage bosses may prove to be a bit of an obstacle if you're soloing.

Doom got his last laugh on me yesterday. His Doom medal dropped on inaccessible terrain. I was mad.
The Doom fight is such an unbelievable load of horseshit it almost made me not want to play the game anymore. Three stages, each stage Doom can heal himself to full, lots of annoying adds, constantly being stunned, a large AE that follows you around the map. It's even better when you die as sometimes it will kick you to the closest waypoint, which is FOUR zones away. Literally took me a full five minutes to run from the waypoint back to Doom. If you're lucky you'll only respawn at entrance to castle, which is only a two to three minute run. Basically the only two ways to complete it is to group or massively overlevel yourself.
I've just kind of been lurking on these forums for months...this game got me out to say...i like it.
There, i've said it.

I got invited to do the beta, and I'm not really sure if I'm going to play it much.
I want to try out all the characters, but I'm sure as shit not going to pay them all. Let's say my favorite is Wolverine. And I spend my money on him. And he sucks. Now I'm out of money for a character that's awful.
I've also found a few bugs. Reporting them is pretty hard and dumb, it seems. I guess I'm used to having a Report Bug function in game, in this day and age.
The graphics are pretty. It's really just Diablo II reskinned with Marvel characters, really.
