They had a report bug button in game but recently removed it. Not sure what their reasoning was but it's pretty annoying.
I've played 16 of the heroes so far and none of them are "awful". Some are definitely not as fun to play in the early levels, and some are difficult to solo with, but none are flat out bad.
Got DD to 10...not so sure about him. His single target focus seems pretty awesome, however the rest of his kit just doesn't seem too strong at the moment. Just bought RR..Can't go wrong with a little Raccoon right?
Raccoon's skill trees are a bit of a mess at the moment. There's several things that are borderline useless. Devs are making balancing passes through each character so things are going to change before launch. Brevik said during a recent live stream they want to make all skills worthwhile, so there will be tweaking.
I got invited to do the beta, and I'm not really sure if I'm going to play it much.
I want to try out all the characters, but I'm sure as shit not going to pay them all. Let's say my favorite is Wolverine. And I spend my money on him. And he sucks. Now I'm out of money for a character that's awful.
I've also found a few bugs. Reporting them is pretty hard and dumb, it seems. I guess I'm used to having a Report Bug function in game, in this day and age.
The graphics are pretty. It's really just Diablo II re skinned with Marvel characters, really.
Its basically just a cross between marvel ultimate alliance and diablo. Really, when it comes down to it, you either like this kind of game or you don't. Its going to be free, and getting characters/skins/loot is part of the replayability, and you can get what you want if you choose by real money. Right now, $60 of real money, which is what a typical game really costs, gets you quite a bit of characters and skins. Even more so say if you bought before Feb 16th.
That being said, while the game is fun, and there is a lot of character variety, the game is kind of mindless at the moment. It seems it got better with the latest client as there's more stuff to do (IE side quests and stuff) and things seemed a bit harder. I made a post about it in the beta forums. "Its a nice platter, but wheres the meat"
But what were you expecting really? Its a marvel based F2P game that's set up a lot like LoL but is a diablo style game. You don't have to ever spend a dime if you don't want to. And there may not be $60 of content there. There's definitely free though, and I feel easily $20. You'll at least pour 5-20 hours into this game, even if you never spend a dime.
tried out ms marvel today. Wow she is fun. Can do ranged, but is a brawler, and has an additional mechanic that is interesting. (Thor's seems ok, wolverine/scarlet witch doesn't do shit) She seems like a really interesting tank if this was a typical MMO game. Not sure of her place here, but she does a lot of damage and is fun to play.

I think we both agree that the release date is a bit early because of stuff like this. Whats there is awesome, and they're on the right path, but certain characters feel very much incomplete. Yes, you can always balance/patch later, but like in the case of Cyclops, do you really want to release the game where an entire tree of his is pretty much useless? And there's a couple characters like this.
Plus there's plenty of balance issues ATM. Especially for melee characters IMO. If you were going to buy one character and plow through the content, honestly, I don't know why you wouldn't pick hulk. Some other characters have god mode AoE abilities and everything else, but hulk does it all and soaks it up.
Spent a few hour yesterday playing the beta and had fun. I got lucky and Captain America dropped for me. I liked him much more than Hawkeye. I'm looking forward to playing the game once it goes live.
I didn't take notice, are character drops account bound? I really like the idea of helping each other get the different characters we want. Trading them around would have a cool baseball card feeling.
At this point, $20 for a character and a couple skins seems way out of line. When I first started I really didn't like being locked into one character and got lucky with the Cap drop. When whole AAA games are sold at $50-$60, I feel like asking any more than that to unlock all current characters (not including skins) is a little nuts. We'll just have to see how common hero drops are.
One more thing, variable pricing on heroes in the in-game store is garbage. I understand who/why but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
Yeah, I really like it, but I can't see myself spending more than 5 bucks on a hero. It sounds like it's more fun to have them drop anyway.
I know that some people will counter the $20 package as coming with $10 of in-game money, but that doesn't mean a whole lot. Give me the character and costumes for $10 and keep your credit.
EDIT: Sorry, I don't mean to come in here and rant. The game was fun. I like giving a developer money for making a good game. $60 to ANET for GW2, $20 to League of legends for the box copy.

The game is fun and all, but I just don't see it being worth any money right now. And forgive me for being leery with my money, but "trust us the characters are good" is not a valid reason to throw money at it in the hopes that the character isn't awful. On this very page you guys are complaining about Raccoon. Case in point right fucking there.
I'm taking a very cautious wait-and-see approach to this. If it isn't awful in six months I might get more into it. Right now in the Beta though, I don't really see anything worth throwing my money (mostly) blindly at.
They are however debating whether to allow store purchased hero tokens to be tradeable.
This would push me to buy one of their absurdly expensive $60 pre-order packs because I could then trade characters (or at least ones I buy with the extra cash) to my wife. As is I can't justify that price point. I barely allowed myself to buy Cyclops when he was 10% off. I felt dirty paying that much, honest to god. Like an addict that kept saying no until he eventually broke down.
I hear there is going to be PvP...anyone know what it is suppose to be like? If this game combined the Diablo style PvE it has now with a LoL MOBA style PvP that would be something amazing.
You guys seem to be forgetting that some characters just got added and that we're still a few months from release (although I personally think September would be a better time judging as is)
Listed to some developer blogs on YouTube, and you'll see why I have high hopes personally. The guy in charge seems to care and made D2 and hellgate.
Personally I've wasted just as much money for crap games and games where it only lasted about 6 hours.
Raccoon is a mess because he was just added recently. He's not bad, he just needs some of his skills either moved around or buffed to make them worth taking, otherwise you just end up stacking your points into 3 or 4 abilities. They have a feedback thread for every single hero in the forums and they take the info and make balancing passes. If anyone is questioning the pricing (WHICH IS NOT FINALIZED) or whether invidual heroes are worthwhile, just wait until after the game launches and see what people say about it then. The founder's packs are decent deals, but aren't required and the devs said that there will be deals in the store for bundles post-launch. I've been telling people for months to wait until you get a chance to play around with it before deciding to spend money on it. Hell, I haven't even spent a dime on it because I want to know what the endgame and post launch plans are for first.
PvP is in the game now (currently 15v15v15) and I haven't bothered to check it out. From what Brevik said in a recent livestream basically everyone nukes each other in "about 2 seconds" so it obviously needs some work. PvP character stats and skills will be balanced separately from PvE. They are looking into making smaller scale arena fights (like 5v5 or 2v2) and are taking feedback on it in the forums.
Pro tip: use a Retcon every ten levels or so. Some hero skills are unlocked based on level not by skill points, so if you respec after opening up higher level skills you can stack them more effectively.
It would be nice if the NDA was lifted so that the Wiki people could get busy. I'd like to see how skills evolve rather than having to guess and retcon later.

It does.
I think people are grossly overestimating how involved Brevick is in the development of this game. Given some of the design decisions, I think he us mostly acting as a PR piece for this project.
I'd say there's going to be two more content patches before launch (they've been doing one a month). They have the final 4 characters to add for launch, endgame "challenges", and whatever bugs fixes and UI polish along with more hero balancing. For the most part the game is complete, as leveling a single character to level 30+ can take anywhere from 15-30 hours. The way they've built the game, it will be pretty easy for them to add content post launch to any chapter of the game.
From my alpha/beta experience, the devs and internal testing departments are usually playing a build that is 3+ versions ahead of what external testers are playing. Many times the "final" version is never given to external testers at all and you'll notice a huge difference in the polish levels from the final beta version to the retail one.
On a side note, in about 20 hours of play this week had two heroes drop off regular mobs (Wolverine and Iron Man), plus at least a dozen artifacts. Had a few Retcons drop, but no costumes (have seen costumes drop on a regular basis in prior weeks). If that drop rate holds up then it won't be a big deal to get other heroes to play for free. Crafting, however is a massive grind as you have to level up the NPC many times to unlock the higher tier crafting recipes. My crafting NPC is at level 9 and both gear vendors at 6 and that is with level 31, 24, 17, 14, and 8 characters. Thank Jeebus you only have to level them up once.
Cyclops with Ricochet Beam and Electro's medal = win.
I also had a Scarlet Witch drop. I also found a Wolverine, but the item says "Using this will increase the level of Wolverine's Ultimate by 1." Is this something to up his level 30 skill?

Well done thread. You have convinced me this is worth a look. Hope there will be a chance to play the beta before launch. Need to try me some Storm and Ms. Marvel.

Cool. It will be pretty enjoyable if I can get the old costumes for characters for when I was an avid comic reader. Which it looks like you can for a lot of them so far. That will really make my day.

Yuuup. They're going to make most of their money off skins, I think. I know I want Punk Storm and Captain Marvel and who knows what else.

Punk Storm is best Storm.
And I think Storm has to be the best for grinding. With a spammable decent damage AoE ability? I'm kind of sad that I didn't choose Storm to start, because of it. I can easily see classes with spammable AoEs dominating and being ever present, like they did in D2.

I also really like that her mohawk skin has normal eyes. A nice nod to the fact that she was powerless when rocking that look. It's funny that that look has become popular again. Everyone used to laugh about how "OMG 80s" it was.

They really need to stop treating games like they are nuclear secrets. The basic gameplay is finalized and the majority of features are in the game. The game launches in a little over a month, so there won't be any major surprises between here and then. And honestly, I don't think it's fair for a company to offer $20-$200 preorder bundles without giving consumers enough to make an informed buying decision. Especially when said bundles are currently slated NOT to be sold after launch.

Not sure why anyone would be surprised about Brevik's involvement given the design decisions.
I mean, when they said their goal was to make every skill useful, my first thought was "Well I guess there would be a first time for everything, Brevik"
Try to tell me even half of the skills in Diablo 2 are useful. And don't get me wrong I still like Diablo 2 but there are a lot of design flaws that were overlooked largely because Diablo 2 was effectively alone in its genre.
I think my main issue with the current skill layout is I always feel 1 or 2 hotkeys short. There are skills that are situational and could be useful, but get left off hotbar because there are much more powerful skills that take priority. I also think travel powers should a separate key from hotbar and not cost any spirit. I get that they are trying to force you into making choices, but I then start to feel like I am not fully utilizing my hero.

Moving Healthkits off the bar would make things a little better, other than wolverine/deadpool I cant imagine anyone not forced to have them on the bar.

15v15v15? That sounds awful. Even more so considering how few characters are available at launch. How does a match type like that even work?
A MOBA style would be brilliant, especially if the characters have PvP only stats and you could make it so different costumes have different preset powers. If nothing else it would great to eventually see "Classic Battles" PvP where one team is the X-Men and the other is the Brotherhood or maybe even set it up so you have one guy controlling a really strong Ultron verse a group player controlled Avengers. If the model and powers are all ready in the game it shouldn't be too hard to give the players control for fun little scenario style PvP moments. I think LOTR online does something similar.
