I think the issue I have with a new Battlefield game is I feel I didn't get my money's worth with 3. I played for about 10 hours and then got tired of missing access to equipment I wanted plus whatever else I was having trouble with. Then as DLC came out and I was unwilling to buy it there were fewer people playing on vanilla servers.
I'm not quite ready to go through that again.
Well, that stinks man.
I've sunk something like 300 hours into this damn game since launch. I feel i've gotten way more then my moneys worth out of it. And i'm still not all that excited for another modern war BF. I don't think I was the only one really hoping they would do something like 2143 even though they had announced what 4 would be way back.
it probably has a lot to do with who you get to play with as well. I was fortunate enough to have a few good friends who wanted to play a good bit. We also had a large group of PAers at the start that, although the numbers did dwindle over time, were a blast to play with. There were just so many nights where our groups would just be rolling along, and even if we lost there were those battlefield moments that were just plain awesome. This all coming from someone who has over 500 hours played and I still enjoy the game, but it's always better playing with other people. There are still plenty of servers that have their own teamspeak/mumble/vent servers, I'd suggest hopping on there to find people (and some vanilla servers as well).
There's a ton of truth to that. The 360 dudebros that I get to play with made the game much more enjoyable. I just wish the enthusiasm that was there for like the first two months was still there. I think it's just over familiarity with the game that keeps the play sessions spread out. I think that's also why the setting for 4 seems so blah.
I miss the Angry Dome. Do we even have a server any more? Someone invited me to the 102nd but I can't figure out from the web page if anyone is actually playing or not. Maybe I'm just dumb and not seeing it?
The platoons in Battlelog are really pointless, even if youre in a platoon together I think they still need to be no your friends list to see if theyre playing.
the color on the outline of the person's picture changes for their online status. I believe the blue border means online? Can't remember and not at home at the moment.

Hey man, I still rage super hard and delight in putting my knife inside of things. But we've all been playing Bioshock this week. Don't deny it! I've seen you!
there's no way DICE is going to forego multi that much. They know where they make their money. The more singleplayer coverage so far (and they did similar things with BF3) is just to emphasize that there may be a single player campaign worth playing for more than 15 minutes this time.

This is true and now the crack that is Terraria.
BF has been the only game I still play almost 2(?) years later though. All the rest are collecting dust on the shelf.
Cause I want my 101st platinum dude bro status to remain untarnished.
One Battlelog ID, multiple soldiers; I imagine platoons will be by game, otherwise stats wouldn't make sense and many platoons have already reached their player limit.

Maybe I'm alone in this opinion, but bring back the guys from Bad Company. I don't care if this is Battlefield 4 and not Bad Company 3, give me Sweetwater, Sarge, Marlowe, and Haggard. Those guys mad me enjoy playing both campagins of Bad Company, despite it having "meh" game play.
Bad Company 2 is 75% off right now on Steam, this also applies for the Vietnam DLC.
There will be a Reddit event from the 19th - 21st where people will be massively playing BC2 Vietnam. Bunch of EA and DICE guys said they'll be playing too. I might just do it myself, BC2 is an awesome game.

This has confused me since BF3's singleplayer campaign was announced. If they're going to attempt anything singleplayerwise with Battlefield, why not keep what works?
The modern warfare setting is at WWII levels of worn out by now. I watched that 17 minute thing, and it just looked boring... It's all just cliched explosions and "Surprise! We killed this guy!" now.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
The Limbo that is perpetuated with PA gaming is it boils down to the point where you don't want to play with other people because you are used to the PA standard. So you get on BattleLog and see no PA players on -- and decide to play something else.
What you don't know is all the other PA players are doing this at the same time. So no one is playing --- because no one is playing.
There have been times I've seen no one on and took the plunge into a game and within twenty minutes I see five or six more PA people pop into my server.

As long as coalition forces remain in Afghanistan, and perhaps for a little while longer, the modern setting will resonate with the zeitgeist. However I do agree, it does seem like an opportunity was missed by not borrowing from Bad Company's tone and instead using a trite overly dramatic one.
I'm not sure where industry execs, or anyone else, think we could go from here. In recent years the settings we've had were historic, space opera, modern, and semi futuristic. Personally I'm hoping for cyberpunk.

DICE should do a cyberpunk one, yeah. That hasn't been handled with super high triple A's production values yet. Neotokyo is probably my favorite but it was still pretty bare bones.

Yeah, I am well aware of this effect, so I often just jump and start playing on my own. I would do the same with the PA server, I'd just sit there alone, and not 20-30 minutes later someone would jump into Mumble and then a few minutes later we'd have a pretty good server night going on.

That reminds me that I haven't checked on Watchdogs for a couple of months
Oh they will in time, just so long as we don't end up looping back to fucking WW2.
I mean I totally agree that modern is so many levels of played out. Time to strap on some jet packs and laser guns and go toe-to-toe with big fuckin' robots.
Just gotta be patient, game devs are always a little behind the general public's desires anyway.
Everyone knows they just need to do Battlefield 2143, but they just wont fucking do it.
They have to finish Mirrors Edge 2 first. It has been said that there was once a tweet from someone from DICE that said they are totally doing Mirrors Edge 2... though that could be the ravings of madmen.

Most imprtantly tho'... When the time comes it will be angry dome 4: liberty dipping into the future.
Angry Dome 2: Dip harder
Technically it would be dome 3 or 4.
We had BC2, BF3 and now 4 (It will happen). Was there an angry dome anywheres else?

I wonder how ET: Quake Wars was. The game is probably dead.
Talking about ET, Splash Damage wants to make a modern ET. Kinda like Brink but without the suck.
I need to build a PC.
